The Blackbird is Any Car You Want it to Be, Thanks to Movie Magic | WIRED
Would have never thought that was a fake car. Incredible!!
I would have. Did you see the camber in the rear wheels
Car Lover mk2
I didn’t notice it at first go. But after your comment yeah the camber is very obvious.
Car Lover mk2 yep
I don't even know what's real anymore.
maybe you are too old
Says the guy who looked like he's been dead for centuries.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha!
Wipes tears...
HAHAHA
I'm real
This is why I have trust issues
Lol
Then seeing any behind the scenes of any modern movie will bother you. So much is CGI.
😁😝
Wow, that is incredible, will never look at car commercials or anything car related on screen the same!
we finally know the secret to that cool shot of the car changing models seamlessly
Racing games?
cars in commercials have been cgi for years
Lots of movies use real cars such as James bonf
@@333dae Even without this, it is relatively easy to create a car in CGI.
wait until your girlfriend will just be CGI because cheaper and eaisier
Love the music videos you post!! Fenominalno. Znao sam da sam te video od nekud.
Sam Tacks
thanks
dzonikg cgi can't reproduce
Or your ( my ) boyfriend !! 😱 lol
At least you'll know all your CGI girlfriend's orgasms are fake.
But can it be a tricycle?? Thats the real question
and also, what if someone wanted to get in/enter the car
I imagined a very large tricycle as i read that.
Can it run crysis is the real question
@@ludwigtemmel lmao
Yo dude why is the illuminati here?
Gets in car accident
Insurance company: and what was the make and model of the car that the other person was driving?
Person: ......
All of them
Jeremy Bray 1990 pinto i have footage
Bugatti Chiron, obvi??!!
Person: Yes
@@user-ic6nm4ol4r 💀💀
Now that's a cool piece of tech!!
Compositing an actor in the front wheel will still be a pain...
not really only use if you have limo tint lol and inside the car shots and shazzzam
Abram Porras *Inside the car shot somehow in same angle and speed as cars shot. Oh and don't forget parallax. Go try to do one yourself.
Abram Porras oh my, we have a badass over here. How are things going back in school kiddo?
Abram Porras wait that's what they do with u? gross dude
+777Mikos naw just you bro
here's an idea, lets spend millions of dollars on a car that can look like a cheap chevy sonic
Jose Saldana 👌
in the long run its good
Well yess buuttt if your filming a movie scene you could technically film this one car like hundreds of times over and boom you have a city scene somewhere in a futuristic new york or something
that would be kinda hard since you would not see the reflections of the other cars if only one drove at the time, while also you would not see the futuristic new york in the reflection so it would probably be easier to just animate the whole thing then
Not only like a Chevy Sonic. It can be made to look like *any* car is the whole point.
Lil tay exposed
Srinandan P lmao ikr 😂
Lmao ladies and gentlemen, we got her
When you realise that blackbird is more expensive than those tiny cars in the video ehhhh
my whole life has been a lie
This is gonna go trending
How does one mimic an suv or pickup or when the windows of the car arnt tinted so you can see the driver?
2:02
Irok 121 There is no driver lmao
With cg
Easy - add a interior and driver model and slap it on top of the driver :P. Here's the thing - that 3D model of the car is just an image. You can easily hide the insides of the real vehicle with it and no one will notice thanks to that fact that you can compute the lighting effects accurately using that 360° panorama (or HDRI, as well CG artists call it) and ray tracing.
@@ZeroTwo-gd5nq a driver model can be added just that easily. They didn't do it perhaps because this was just a demonstration
U could make such a cool movie around the idea of a criminal with a shapeshifting car or something
Delete this now
THAT WOULD BE AMAZING
Oh you mean like Viper? Or the new Knight Rider? You need a good script too.
It's called transformers ya dope 🤣
Hornet
"honey, what's the password to our life savings again?"
i agree, if it did exist it would be expensive
well well... fast and furius series has some questions to answer. including you tokyo drift. 😐😑
Don't tell me you have been thinking all the stunts were real...
This technology is absolutely "out yet". Just saw a Lexus commercial with this thing.
i'm THAT guy A lot of the stunts are real, using cheap frames and engines with the trim of real cars.
They used real cars or replicas in all of their stunts. They did a video intro on it. They don't use this CGI BS. They either build a car from scratch, get sponsors like Subaru, Dodge, Ford to give them production vehicles that they then modify to their needs or they build replicas of expensive cars like the Lykin Supersport.
Dude, the cars are legit. That tech wasn't around during Tokyo drfit
OK maybe the cgi but the stunts are made with special versions of the cars used in the films
0:19 the way the car bounces against the front wheel... Looks very artificial.
The one issue they need to resolve is how to get into the car or scenes with doors opened. They will definitely figure.
Saulo Avelar maybe rent a real car from a dealership, put a greenscreen room around the car, and record a few scenes for a few hours. So you have 0% risk of crashing or messing with the real car
Green screen, done
It wouldn't be hard to open the doors at all; just have the CG model with the doors open and use the same HDRI...
Getting in the car would be a bit harder though.
@@cng3734 crash this thing is even worse than a rental car...
Is this really real or am I dreaming. God damn we in the future.💯
it's real but not in the way you seem to be thinking.
This is being done ever since computers could render images (not necessarily ray tracing. Reyes rendering, shaders like Lambert and Oren-Nayar and specularity shaders like Phong exist for a reason and are fairly old)
This is absolute genius. An incredibly brilliant solution for the movie business.
The key is the perfect reflections and texture mappings from the Canon 8-15mm. And the fact that they can change the wheelbase… pheeeww.
never unsubscribing
so true!
wow a catfish car XD
Omgggg, that’s how they make those crazy car commercials without putting an actual car in jeopardy of getting totaled 😱
damn holy shittttt technology move more fast than my age
I think i read an article about this at one point before. It said because its not the real car with all the real capabilities, it can trick the audience into believing anything the companies want you to believe just to earn more money
What is the rotating thing in top of the blackbird?? What's its use?
Is that real or edited vid or prototype?
Please explain
So this is the reason why the FWD car can drift in the commercial?
What about different opening door types or I side shots?
the real question is will it do a burn out though?
So it works irl or on screen only?
I'd be interested to know how frequently this is used. Would be cool to know how likely it is that a car in a movie I'm watching at the cinema was created this way.
So now I know that every modern car commercial is a lie.
This is awesome. It’d be crazy if we could project the image in real time so it appears that way to our eyes
VFX guys are on a different level
Hmmm how does it do on fuel and can I have the 0-60 times and I don:t even know what to think anymore
So do we see the car or it’s just in the video edit
How are they going to mimck the engine sound tho ?
Wow amazing... great for eye catching! And also great for car crashes
2:03 if you look close a leaf teleported through the car
what is the title of the movie??
What if people are walking in or out of the car. The doors wouldn't work right?
they can use an actual car for that, this is a stunt car
I understand that, but would be cool if you could use the doors.
Technically one model could have seats so actors can hop in and then vehicle is chanced to one that has roll cage.
That's so smart!
How expensive is this thing? Stunt cars have to be able to take lots of abuse, I doubt this could handle mounting curbs at speed or going airborne without damaging the electronic bits.
Those are some downright impressive effects, can't wait to see how it's going to be used.
yeah i promise you that this car alone would cost more than renting several vehicles for a movie.
Beautiful, Elegant and Reusable Design.
A lesson to everyone.
It's the Ditto pokemon of the car world!
Very awesome, wonder how often these are used in movies. I mean If its newer cars likely car companies dont mind giving out a free one to use for advertising or maybe even pay to have the car in the movie
Unless it was a multi million dollar vintage car, I don't see the problem to a film's budget if you just get the real car; half of the time car companies give away their cars to the studios for time on the screen anyway.
But does it come in black
how much?
Even an Apollo IE with multiple curves and blades?
In irl you only see the blackbird, you don't see the projected car, that only appears on camera, I think
Imagine you owned that car and you turned it into a lambo, and someone touched it.
can it be possibly a concept car commercial use?
when you see a Chevy sonic drift and cry
How much?
Now this is mind blowing.
Crazy i did't know that tehnology is used for filming movies.
Wonder if it can be used for military purposes. As in more stealth. Mabe even appear invisible.
pretty sure this thing is more expensive and valuable than any supercar...
now that is sure realistic looking
Imagine what the soundcloud rappers would do with this bro
But how fast is it?
I just think the world is amazing, in the old days you travelled by horses, and now, you can have a car that can be a hologram
so is it real or can u only see it on computer?
The Perfect get away car.
What is the music track called?
They really put so much efforts to make people fool.
And how much does it cost?
Car in the thumbnail is exactly like the felon in gta 5. Rockstar predicted the future
*MY JAW IS LITERALLY ON THE FLAW!*
At first I thought the car was morphing into different designs, but then I realized I'm dumb.
i want the blackbird without any cgi
Is it possible??
Where do I get one and how much are they?
Probably be like a Gazillion dollars or something
I don't think you can buy one. It's a service from the company
Aww
ShadowLinkOmega why would you need one anyway
Well, that's one way to own a skyline.
What in the actual heck? Do the people in person see the different cars?
I just realized this is for movies
Am I the only one getting a car ad on this video?
Yeah but how do they fix it so that the spacing between tires is the correct one? It is not going to be the same on every car without rescaling the outside... 😅
ToniLivo they showed that the front wheels moved back and forth to make up for different wheelbases
Most likely the movie business (Studios) will use this to automate cars in large fleets on large sets and get rid of all drivers, and cars of course :)
Slaps car* hand goes right through
Non car guy:Holy crap that car looks like the Batmobile
Car guys: now it can be
Great, now I won't be able to watch movies without trying to spot that rig in window reflections and actors glasses.
What about replicas?
Awesome tech!
Love to see it as a Kubota tractor! 🚜😎
I just wanted to see one of them poke their hand through the hologram.
it only works if you are looking at it through a screen.
Everthing is good untill it rains
Amazing! I wonder what real world applications this has been applied to, so far.
Can it actually be Blackbird tho? Like, pure black Porsche 964? Or a tuned af 350z?
This is just amazing, absolutely love this video! Great job WIRED!
Every time i see this kind of tech being show to us i wonder what other things are being developed..
This car doesn't change appearance in real life, only after editing, it looks like the car we want it to be in the recorded video ONLY.
Im kinda lost so does the car change infront of your very eyes like in real life? Or does it need to be edited with CGI or something?
Jean it's CGI
But can it mimic how the vehicle it's imitating handles by torque-vectoring? That would really sell the effect!
YOU CANT TELL IT WHAT TO DO. IT IS ITS OWN CAR.
🙂
