Thank you for this very clear video. I have looked at others and been completely bemused but this one is really excellent and I feel more confident to have a go.
Hi, thanks ALOT for this tutorial. I managed to get 30x 15s exposure of the milky way and wanted to stack it but with DSS it didn't really seem to work, but when on siril i saw that the image was in the end really good for a not so good condition images, i was shoked since i didn't really know how to do basic stacking. Thanks alot, i know own a go to mount that can track, dedicated Astrophotography camera and now the key knowledge to do this. Thanks again for this tutorial !
This is one of the most straightforward tutorials I’ve found yet! Do you recommend pre processing in Lightroom and then exporting from Lightroom as a tiff before stacking in Siril
On one hand, I find your tutorial pretty simple and easy to follow. On other hand, I can't get star registration to work right. It fails and tells me it can only find one star. And if I check there is no plot. I tried ctrl-f6, and that seems to find the stars, but when I run registration, it loses the star outline, and again, fails to align because there is just one star..and again..crop is still empty.
Ok so I have a Mac and have Siril on it. the problem I ran into is if I have more than 200 or so light photos my computer doesn't have enough storage and the script will stop when its almost done. I bought an external flash drive and have the photos on the drive. However when I go into Siril click the home button to pick the files I want to stack my usb drive does not appear. Any tips?
Thanks Derek for this truly amazing guide! Will definitely "bother" you with questions in the future. I understand though, that a decent processing can be done, so dedicated (post stacking) processing programs can be omitted, right?
Hey, very nice and helpful tutorial, i am learning image stacking, when I finished Alignment and process stacking, the image get kinda blurry orange and can’t see anymore stars. Do you have any idea, thanks a lot
Maybe try the photometric colour calibration, then background extraction. Or the other way around. Siril has moved on a lot since I made the video so there will be differences and newer features
Its a file format common in astronomy. Its a pretty old format but still widely used. If you are using capture software like nina or something else (I use INDI) then it will save as fits. If you are just using the camera standalone then you probably get .raw files. Siril can only handle fits but it can convert raw to fits. I've never done it but there is a guide here showing how to do it free-astro.org/index.php/Siril:Tutorial_import
For me, I make sure I click debayer (see 0:58 in the video) and it converts the raw data to colour. But I'm using raw fits files. It should be the same for RAW

Thanks for sharing this video. This does help us beginners/Newbies!
This is one of the best astrophotography software tutorials on UA-cam. Thank you for the succinct and easy to understand information.
Thanks! I must update it for the latest version of Siril
This was a REALLY good quick walkthrough of some key points to use to get into stacking man... I really appreciated this!

Thank you sir. I've been looking for days for someone to explain Siril in terms that I can understand. Now I am excited about Siril!!!
Thanks so much for this video Derek. I never knew Siril had this much capability.
Many thanks for this quick tutorial, I got my first nebula results and this was a massive help! Cheers
You made siril looks easy to use. Great!!!

Adding calibration frames would really have been helpful.
For sure. Makes a huge difference. Might make another more comprehensive video soon
Super cool

On my Mac, that registration screen is not the same.
Hello mate, are you going to continue with astrophotography videos?
Hi Sasha, not sure to be honest. I might do some on capturing and scheduling using INDI & EKOS soon. Thanks for watching,
@@derekokeeffe9919 I hope you do.
What is a ".FITS" file? I have raw images from camera (namely NEF format), how do we convert that?

@@derekokeeffe9919 So fits are now color images? What are your fits files converted to and what format?
Hi... after converting my RAW files .... I'm only getting B&W (Black & White) as an option and not Red Green Blue RGB.! any idea why?

Agreed. All videos eventually become outdated
