    Best tutorial I've found. Tried some others online but they were too fast and skipped over a bunch of steps. I was able to get a better image using your methods.

    My Seestar S50 was delivered on Thursday from FLO and I managed to image the Wizard Nebula. Not ideal conditions because of the 97% moon and Bortle 6 sky, but I was pleased with the result straight out of the S50. This video is just what I needed to now process the image in Siril. Thanks.

    Thanks for another great video. This should help new users quite a bit. I always send them to your videos. I would add that selecting the Advanced button on the Star Recompostion window will make more stretch modes available, including inverse stretches, under a dropdown menu for Type of stretch. I find the inverse options very useful.

    For someone who is new, this tutorial goes so fast. One can not keep up with the constant (but necessary) selections of various tools with the arrow/cursor. I have to stop at almost every step to see where he is going. This took me over an hour to note each step, finding where the cursor went and what was being selectec, etc. Also, unless the starnet star removal tool is installed, the creation and editing of the star mask cannot be done, and he doesn't mention that, or how to get the tool. It would be much better at a slower pace. However, I still found it useful.

    Hello Chris, thankyou for your patients with all of us learning Siril. The video is very instructional in many aspects and much appreciated. One thing i am really unsure of and would think it should be easily achievable but after all my attempting, i just seem to not to be able to achieve it. Object is M42 ... we all know it well. There is a particular part of this beauty that i always look to see and try to achieve which what i suspect is achieved by some of the better post processings. That is the trapezium part. First off, when I perform the starnet star removal on orion, funny enough the trapezium stars do not get included in the star mask fit. i suspect because the algorithm cannot detect those stars since they are already in a "hot zone" of bright nebulosity. but what do i know. perhaps there is a setting that can get this accomplished. in any event when performing the GHST or even the histogram transformation on the star less, i cant for the life of me have the nebulosity brighten without blowing out the core and wasting away the trapezium. I was wondering if you would be so kind to be able to put out a video on processing orion from that perspective or providing some tips. It seems to me that this task is so specific and involves both ends of the brightness scale that to be able to master that would put all of us on a great course to know what is required to tackle many other difficult transformations. But what do I know (just a beginner) Thank again Chris for all your great videos. / Ken

    • @tarbat
      @tarbat  4 місяці тому +3

      When doing GHST on the starless image, make use of the "Highlight protection point (HP)" slider to preserve the trapezium. It is one of the more difficult parts of post-processing, getting the right balance between preserving detail in bright areas whilst stretching the darker areas. The "Symmetry point (SP)" slider is also crucial to ensure you're stretching the right part of the image. Good luck!!

      If all you've got is the SeeStar and your phone or tablet, you can copy files from the SeeStar to your device, one by one. That's a pain.
      If you also have a laptop or desktop computer, you can follow the SeeStar instructions for how to turn off Station Mode on the telescope, and have it use your local WiFi network. I could only get that part done from my iPhone, not my iPad. Once it's on your local WiFi network, then you can follow the SeeStar instructions to get the IP address of the SeeStar device and then connect to that IP address from your computer, via the SMB protocol. Then you can download the files in bulk.

    Ok so I have a Mac and have Siril on it. the problem I ran into is if I have more than 200 or so light photos my computer doesn't have enough storage and the script will stop when its almost done. I bought an external flash drive and have the photos on the drive. However when I go into Siril click the home button to pick the files I want to stack my usb drive does not appear. Any tips?

    chris, i used see star to image ngc869, took the unstacked images, 241 frames and stacked them in siril. after processing the final image, it was not as good as the stacked version form the see star. the amount of stars in the siril version was far less than the stacked final image from see star. what did i do wrong.

    Lots of good information, but how do you rotate the image if it has been field rotated in Seestar during very long exposures........and hour or more? What I see when I open the .fit file in Siril is rotated at about 10 degrees with solid black top left and bottom right corners. Your thoughts..................
