Much love! There will always be people that don't understand autism, and so they make fun of it. But you're right, it's a superpower in it's own way! I am glad that you're not letting the ignorant people affect how you feel about yourself. I have apsergers + ADHD and wouldn't ever want to be 'normal', despite having survived multitudes of bullying throughout my lifetime for it. You're not broken, you just function in a different way, and some people will just never be able to understand that.

Glad that understanding autism has helped make you understand yourself more. Just a reminder to people reading this that the point of a diagnosis is so a medical professional can better treat you (and even for insurance billing reasons). Although there are bad actors out there, that is the limited scope of a diagnosis. If you don't need a specific intervention or are not even seeking an intervention, you don't really need to get a diagnosis.

I watched your main account progress video 2 days ago. You put your AQ of 39 in the description and I had never heard of AQ. So, I looked it up and took the test myself because I was suspicious of my own autism. I got a score of 41. That was a really surprising score, but it makes sense when I consider what autism in adult males looks like. Thank you for bringing awareness to this. It has helped me to clear some things up in my life that have always been mysterious/confusing. I appreciate you making this video, so keep up the good work!!

I think you’re absolutely right. If you’re comfortable with who you are then why chase a diagnosis. My eldest daughter is going through the process and it is very long and will take a lot of work but the idea is she will be able to be herself like she is at home and not have to mask the whole day the second she leaves the house. Masking is so real and she comes home physically exhausted some times. I think the fortunate thing about the spectrum now is that people are sharing their experiences and we are all growing an understanding of how it works. You’re a wonderful person and I admire the videos you produce and the effort that goes into them. Great share, spread the word and let’s reach that level of understanding to the point where it’s embraced by all.

I was diagnosed with Asperger's about 5 years ago. Too many people use autism as an insult, however persons on the spectrum have been found to have an overall higher intelligence than those not on the spectrum. I'm not saying that having autism means that you're a genius, but many geniuses are on the spectrum. You also shouldn't see autism as there being something wrong with you either. Being on the spectrum isn't a negative, nor is it a setback. It just makes you unique, and part of something that makes you a brilliantly different person. Those that hate and bully you are just ignorant people that will never understand what it means to be unique.
Much love from a fellow neurodivergent with Asperger's & ADHD.

My daughter was recently diagnosed formally and I realized since she was born that I also have autism - I have to say that you hit a key point around 5:10, just understanding it as a fact about who you are as a person is so wild. I am able to feel much more self-aware, and able to more consciously decide when I should be "masking" vs. being "myself", instead of just always masking which was my default most of life. While I never historically would support the concept of self-diagnosis, when it comes to understanding your own personality and feeling more comfortable with who you are, I will always support that, because I've felt the effects myself and it's worth facing those (sometimes tough) facts.
I will note however that upon learning about myself, I've also felt immense guilt for past situations where I realize "had I known I was autistic, I might have been able to consciously handle that situation better". Buuut that's another story. Just glad to see and support autism awareness!

It must mean a lot to be able to accept such diagnosis on yourself and will definitely be an enormous W for the mental. The public conversation on autism and neuropsychiatric issues has evolved a lot from mid 2010's when autism was such a common pejorative so it's great to nowadays see many people publicly talking about these things. I wish you all the best Caleb!

As someone who was diagnosed with autism as an adult, I'd highly encourage you to seek diagnosis. It's not just about disability support, it's not about special treatment; it's about making sure you're treated fairly.
ASD is a protected characteristic in the UK (in the US, I think the term is protected class), which means you are legally protected from discrimination at work, when using public services, when buying or renting a property, and in any private club or association. Even if you can't conceive of being discriminated against because of your autism at the moment, as a younger guy, chances are it will come in handy at some point. It's also possible that you are or will be discriminated against and not recognise it as such. And it may give you some validation and closure if this is something you've been thinking about for a while.
At the end of the day, it isn't too much effort. 10-minute doctor's appointment, an hour to fill in some forms, and half a day to go to the assessment; less than a day's work in total, but the potential headaches it could save down the line are immense.

I recently came across a booked called "The Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome" it was very good that it actually gives you many flashbacks of your life as you read through it. Things like getting bullied in school, being bad at language skills especially oral, not able to find a group in group projects, being clumsy sometimes due to having poor motor skills etc. Also some other stuffs like monotone voice, love to do repetitive things and having special interests. Highly recommend this book to you. Yes the term "Asperger's syndrome" was reclassified into ASD in DSM-5 but it is still a very good read for me indeed as I don't have a formal diagnosis and only had pre-diagnosis reports from clinical psychologist at around 10 years old.

I recently got diagnosed with ADHD, which isn’t the same as autism I know,
But I just wanted to share with you how worth while it was for me to actually got out and fight to get myself diagnosed.
It wasn’t easy and took me about three years from start to finish.
I also don’t know what kind of help you can get from an autism diagnosis, so I don’t know how worth while it would actually be.
Really I just wanted to share my experience, and let you know that it is possible to do, you just have to go out there and fight for yourself and your rights, if you want to do it then it is possible😊
Anyway, I’m a big fan of your videos, your 1200 rune scim video is what inspired me to play F2P Uim and not I have my own rune scim! So thanks! Keep up the good work!

Thank you so much for posting this. I'd been skirting around the question for quite a while and had been contemplating it more recently but didn't know about the autism spectrum quotient and had just been put off by the cost of professional diagnoses. My results are similarly unambiguous, and I'm also someone about whom it'll probably come as no surprise to those who know me that I'm on the spectrum. Having something concrete to base my own thoughts on and knowing that self-diagnoses aren't looked down on in the community definitely helps too.

I was diagnosed with Aspergers (now included in ASD) my first year in uni. It helped me understand some things about myself, and was a relief to me. I feel like there's a pretty big portion of the osrs community in general, and the f2p community specifically that are on the spectrum. The repetitive and grindy gameplay is predictable, safe, mentally relaxing and under complete control of the player, which is exactly what a lot of autistic people are drawn to.

I was diagnosed as having ADHD when I was younger, but I wasn't aware of that until more recently because it "wasn't a big deal" at the time I was diagnosed. After the huge bloom in interest in the topic more recently I started to research more and more about it to be at peace with myself, only to discover a lot more than I was in for. I noticed that many were "misdiagnosed" as having ADHD in America around the time I was put on medication for it, and it came to be known that ADHD was also commonly found in those in ASD. Not just that, they were actually connected to each other. Things I wish I would have known when I was younger to save myself the pain of not fitting in with peers while in school and eventually dropping out because of that.
Many love to meme about everyone self-diagnosing themselves but it's coming to light that many more are on the spectrum than we previously knew about, so bringing awareness to it will do more good than harm in that respect.

I don't agree on the "numbers go up" part, but doing the same task over and over and over to achieve a goal is definitely a feature of aspergers. Throughout history, there have been many roles where the best suited person for the job was someone with aspergers, and "normal" people wouldn't fulfil the role to the same standard.

Using the cut-off score of 29 has a false positive rate of 1%, however will fail to identify 14.4% of people who actually do meet the diagnostic criteria for DSM-5 defined Autism Spectrum Disorder." I am not saying that you are incorrect or anything but if you want to know for sure, you should get a diagnosis from a doctor no matter how complicated it is to get. There's a reason why it's complicated - The spectrum is much more complicated than a few bullet points and an online test.

I like what you said about being more autistic on the internet, and it actually seems like almost everyone is at the very least slightly more autistic online. 4chan, reddit, wintertodt, gotr and notable autistic hot spots, where autistism thrives. aha

Never thought about you being autistic. It is not that obvious if you are anyway. But in general OSRS players are more on the spectrum than elsewhere that is for sure.
I want you to know that I recognise also 80% of the bullet points in my behaviour. I did a formal autism test for my psychotherapist and he came to the conclusion that I was not autistic even though I had some close traits.
My point is that every human is on the autism/add spectrum so you are most definitely too. Having an autism label wont change who you are, you will still be autumn elegy.

This is not meant to be an insult or in any way telling you that you are wrong but self diagnosis shouldnt be the end of the line. You should speak with a professional about this to fully understand what you are dealing with. Many of these signs of autism are extremely general and can in some way apply to everyone on the planet. We all are unique and experience life in different ways. That includes how we interpret the world and society or what society would call "normal". Im glad that you are going on the journey of understanding yourself but with something as intricate as the autistic spectrum. That being said generalized statements are not indicators on a personal level. If you feel the need speak with a physician and break down what those generalized statements actually represent and how you handle them on a personal level with your own personal experiences as references. Much love and I wish you the best.

Have you read The Autistic Brain by Temple Grandin? Wonderful book that has a quiz at the back to test yourself for autism - as well as deep dives into the several different types of autism currently recognized. It's a great book and I think you will find it useful and enjoyable.

I am diagnosed with autism myself. The best way to describe autism I have found is that it feels like you are playing a game where everyone knows the rules, except you. As a kid, you can feel like a straight up alien, and it is extra difficult, because kids see through the fact you are different way easier than adults do.
I have watched your videos for a long time and I've for the most part related to the ways you describe issues and joys of OSRS. If you told me you were actually autistic without posting this video I would not have been surprised. Even your voice, and I hope this doesn't offend you, but it is a certain way of speaking that is characteristic to autistic individuals I recognize, but something a neurotypical wouldn't.

I kinda feel you on learning recently about yourself, About a year and a half ago similer to you I had the same thoughts about myself because I've always had a pretty severe ADD and I've felt like theres just something more to it fortunately I have acess to a residential doctor who reffered me to a counselor and a therapist who have now reffered me to a ASD specialist.. Its quite the process I'm still waiting currently to see a specialist 😅 I started realising when my relationship of 3 years was starting to hit the fan for multiple reasons one being my girlfriend at the time thought I didnt love her because when shed make me surprises or get me gifts it made me numb and I didnt have any reaction infact it just made me super uncomfortable 😅 We ended up splitting up and that's when it really hit me that I've lost all independence during that 4 year relationship and I can't seem to get back on track no matter how hard I try; I just keep ending up in this same circle of "self destructive behavior" I need routine but Im also very spontaneous I build a routine then get bored of it then YOLO that shit.. Its really messed up learning these things about yourself as a grown up while simultaneously trying to hold your life together you're also learning that no matter how hard you try you can't change your neurological system. We have to re learn how to live, Learning how to cope with situations and catch yourself when you go off track.. I really apprecite you sharing your discoveries about yourself, There's no reason to be ashamed autistic people are usually some of the smartest people you'll ever meet. Most of us just don't have the capability of sharing that knowledge so its always nice to have a voice who can share their experiences to others for them to understand abit better how we live(: love the vids, Keep up the good content(: 💜

Hey, this is a really big video. Having an understanding of their mental illness can be quite comforting for people, so I think that's awesome. I know that you mentioned that you didn't want to be formally diagnosed because of all the struggles that come with it, I think that's perfectly fine. It still might be worthwhile to see a mental health professional even if you don't want to pursue diagnosis because they can give you coping techniques and explain some of the thinking patterns that you may or may not have. Autism becomes less and less of an issue for people as they get older because they learn how to socialise better too.

Don't be quick to diagnose. I was thinking I potentially had it - referred to an adult autism clinic. They said whilst I exhibited some behaviours of autism I did not qualify for a full diagnosis.
I underwent about 4 hours of testing.

You're unlikely to get "official" diagnosis unless you need treatment. I had a similar experience getting an official diagnosis for ADHD and my psychiatrist also telling me that I have mild OCD, but because it doesn't impact my daily life negatively that much it wasn't worth going down the road of official diagnosis + treatment for that.
Being told that I had it however was definitely helpful for me in dealing with it.

Interesting video. I read through the NHS thing and found I related to almost all of the points. Took an Autism Spectrum Quotient test and scored in the middle ground Asperger's side of things. I had always suspected, but never done any investigation/self-diagnosis. Thanks for the cool can of worms that I can keep diving into now (might sound like sarcasm, but I'm serious lmao).

Bro there are overlapping symptoms between asd and many other disorders. It sounds like you clearly need to get evaluated as there's definitely something going on there. However, without a proper differential diagnosis administered by a professional, you can't really say with any certainty at all that what you're going through is asd specifically. It could well be something else entirely. With love and respect, please see someone as I think you could benefit from an evaluation of some sort.

I feel like you'll catch some hate for self diagnosing so I wanted to say from talking with my psychiatrist and psychologist, its very much like you said, its not that weird to self diagnose if you identify with many of the symptoms of something that has such a wide spectrum as autism (or even OCD according to my psychiatrist). Especially because it can help you understand your behavior a lot better which is only a positive thing for self improvement. You'll in general be told an official diagnosis is not needed unless it has a major negative impact on your quality of life and you actually need professional help, mainly because it's either very expensive and / or extremely lengthy process in most cases (waiting time here can be half a year).

Where are you getting your information? The process is very long for people going through the public Healthcare system (multiple years), or you can choose to go the private route (do you have an extra $3000-6000 lying around?). This is why self-diagnosis is seen as a valid option for autism - many people are not in a situation where they can access a professional diagnosis.
Please also keep in mind that people self-diagnosing as autistic aren't doing it for fun, clout, or because they saw one video and decided they are autistic. They do it because it fundamentally changes how they see themselves.

@@CardinalTreehouse This isn’t information this is actually interacting with classes in which I helped SPED students in high school, What kinda insurance do you have? Do you have a job? Have you been to school? These are all free resources that are for you! Community Colleges and all high schools have programs in place to help students get diagnosed! So what are you even talking about I have family members who are on the spectrum and this was all free…. Do you know how to get American Medical it’s all paid for so the extra $3000-4000 is pulled out ur ass. Where are you from EU?
