    Such an enjoyable relaxing video. I appreciate that you first show how to do the stitch in a straight line and then apply it to a letter. Beautiful work.

    You are the Bob Ross of embroidery. So soothing & calm to watch. Love your vids!

  • @aknarxus
    @aknarxus Рік тому +18

    Her videos are so informative and I like how she not only shows you the straight line, but then goes over how to use it in practice - without speeding up the video. I also learned the value of the starting stitch and how the “no knotting” method works. And, I appreciate that she doesn’t edit out her mistakes and instead shows us how she corrects them. Her Palestrina stitches are so beautifully done!

    This is a wonderful video! I haven't embroidered for 50 years or more and had forgotten even basic stitches. Thank you for showing, in detail, how to do the stitch and then how to use it. I would like to see the back of your finished work, as well. (I suspect that your back is as neat and precise as your front!)

      I did a video all about the back of your work recently Mary, so do check that out! We have lots of videos on all the basics as well, including how to start and finish threads, how to use a hoop, backing fabric...all sorts!

    Thank you, Sarah, that was nicely detailed and easy to follow. I'm just beginning, and I'm glad to have found you early on - I feel like I've gotten a running start!
    One comment on the overall video, which was excellent overall...I notice that in many, many tutorials, across all kinds of craft, the artist never shows the entire final product. I wish you had showed us the full array of embroidered letters at the end of the demo, to get an idea of how each style contrasts with each other, as in a sampler. I was looking forward, after following through all the intricate work, to seeing a final product - closure, if you will! And a useful tool for selecting and designing.

    Fantastic tutorial! I wanted to embroider my little granddaughter's name (its quite long LOL!) on a quilted pump bag for her first day at school this September.
    I loved the palestrina stitch as soon as I saw it and started straight away. I found it very easy following your detailed instructions. It's looking beautiful in the variegated thread as you suggest. I'm sure my daughter and her little girl will love it.
    Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. Your teaching style is very relaxed but also precise.

    Thank you for the refresher course. I am 55 and I used to embroider with my great-grandmother as a child. I loved it, and I loved the time with her. I am a grandmother now and want to embroider my granddaughters name on everything. When she is older I hope to teach her. I will have to practice till then. I am starting off with pillow cases with their names for Christmas. I have never seen that last stitch before it's very pretty. Thank you.

    Thank you for all your wonderful tutorial videos Sarah. The Palestrina stitch has always intimidated me. I watched this video again, took a deep breath and worked a few samples (as you recommend in another video) and I manged to master the stitch - well, sewed it well enough to add to the embroidery I'm working on at the moment anyway. I was so pleased with myself that I bragged to my husband, who knows what's good for himself, and he complimented my neat stitches. 😀

    When I was a kid growing up in the fifties I was sent every Saturday afternoon to the house of an elderly lady to learn embroidery. Whenever I fly anywhere now, I get one of those little embroidery kits to keep my fingers and mind busy during the flight - for some reason, I’ve realised that a needle is one thing security doesn’t mind you taking on board! Now I can practice some letters as well :-)) Thanks for posting!

    seems I'll stick to stem stitch for my little project... but great to see alternatives, they'll come in handy when the letters are bigger. My first try at outlining a shape was flat stitching from left to right, like in some machine embroidery. This is way easier...

    I'm really looking forward to this 5lettering stitches. I'm planning on making handkerchiefs for my grand daughters. I think they believe hankerchiefs come of of a box ans are made of paper. Can't wait to tell them you don't use them once and throw them away. You wash and reuse them! I was trying to think of a way of combining their first initial with one of your patterns for small floral motifs. Using their favorite colors and flowers. I'd probaby put this in a corner with a small bow to create a bow. Haven't figured out what to do with the rest of all that white space, suggestions anyone?

    Great tutorial on all these beautiful stitches. I had a question about the stem stitch. As you work up the leg the loop is to the right and is inside the circle of the top part. At the top of the S where it starts to curve back down, do you still keep the loop to the right? Because it would now be outside the circle so the stitch would be going a different direction. Hopefully my question makes sense.
