History
The Pixelbook (codenamed Eve during development) is a portable laptop/tablet hybrid computer developed by Google which runs Chrome OS. It was announced on October 4, 2017 and was released on October 30.
Unlike most typical Chromebook devices, the Pixelbook's retail price is much higher at around $1,000, comparable with laptops such as the Microsoft Surface Laptop or Macbook.
A rumored Pixel-branded Chromebook was anticipated to be launched at Google's annual fall hardware event in 2017 as a successor to the Chromebook Pixel; it was potentially a spinoff from the prior year's Project Bison, which was anticipated to be a laptop that could convert into a tablet mode. Google developed and launched a similar tablet with a detachable keyboard in 2018 as the Pixel Slate.
Like how you review stuff that is older and creates the potential for value proposition. 90 percent of yt tech videos and about most heavily promoted, brand new stuff. But I love finding deals on tech that is a few years old. LG and Sony phones, even older iems
The Google Pixelbook is getting software support until 2027 as has been announced by Google, even if it says 2024, which makes these Chromebooks still a very valuable proposition for the price.
I hate how people make opening it with one hand a thing. like who give af, no hate on the review but i never use my laptop or chromebook and say ooh look i can open with one hand.. like who cares.. im typing this from a pixel book pro bought it new 5 years ago someone stole it, bought it again, used, 2 years ago.60% off what I paid in the store, still using it and its still my go to for a quick email, i prefer it to my phone
Having to sit your device upright and having to pry it open is annoying
Bro Said laptoptop
I gave my original 2017 purchased Pixelbook (i5) to my son for college and purchased one for myself for less than $300. This can still run circles around the current chromebooks in that price range. The design and build quality is not something you can find in less than $300. I use mine every day. I do not have issues with the bezels. in tablet mode I can hold it and don't have content coverd by my fingers.
How long will the Pixelbook get software updates?
@@ibrahimkushartono6272 until 2027
@@ibrahimkushartono6272 2027
As for the Pixelbook holding up well, other Chromebooks have finally caught up with the Chromebook Plus line. They start around $400, but there are a number of them that go down to $300.
That being said, Pixelbooks keep getting cheaper. I'm eying one on Ebay. If the bid stays low enough I'll be picking it up.
About your note on ChromeOS getting bloated: it's all in the Play Store. I noticed that my daughter's Chromebook ran slower as she used it more. So in a matter of a week, without any new updates, the device went from very snappy to not as much. I repaired an old Acer Chromebook that my dad had. It's a CB3-532 from 2018. It's specs were low even back then. Anyway, after a factory reset and time to finalize any background installs, the PC would idle at near 100% CPU use and around 70% of the 2GB RAM in use. The only thing open was the diagnostic screen. I then disabled the Play Store (which removes all installed PS apps) and now it idles at 15-20% with only about 30% of RAM used.
So, you can still get that old experience of it basically running a web browser pretty quick, you just have to give up that new feature these old devices weren't built for anyway. Chrombook Plus models (and by extension this Pixelbook) shouldn't have any issues with the new features. However, you can now buy any of those super cheap school surplus Chromebooks for $25-50 and get a small, battery efficient, semi-hardened, web browsing device for documents for almost nothing. With how many of those are on ebay I can't recommend anyone buying a normal, non-Plus, Chromebook new. My daughter's Chromebook is a "pre-owned" Lenovo 500e that came new in the box. According to the Chrome spec sheet, the device was never even recharged. It was $125 and runs circles around any sub $300 Chromebook in features.
best most comprehensive review of the device that I've seen. Cheers!
Anyone want a remake of the first gen pixel with updated hardware and similar design to the og pixel, updated cam, smaller bezel ect. (Pixel classic?)
Its still a great chromebook.
highest quality review
My buddy is selling this at 150, the i7. If there is no more security updated like you said. Is it still worth it? Doesn't Chrome get updated in general for web browsing? Or is it just the Operating system?
There are still security updates. It's being supported up until 2027. And chrome the app gets updated from the app itself but the Chrome OS operating system that is an actual system update. But in terms of its value, it's honestly the best Chromebook in my opinion that's ever been made because the build quality for it is really good. The battery is really good. It charges fast. It's light and like I said it it will be updated until 2027 for 10 years and even today it can still outperform Chromebooks that are being made today and there were Chromebooks that are in the past that were made during its time that cannot keep up today not to mention windows computers that were made back when the pixelbook was made. That cannot keep up today but the pixelbook can that speaks a lot to how well this made
What was the 3D world looking game you were using as an example? It looks beautiful.
I need a chromebook for school, would have probably gotten one of these if they still got update support
The pixelbook 2017, which is what this video covers, is still supported until June 2024.
@@wademurphy9994 didn’t know that guess I’ll get one for next year since the one I used this year got kinda beat up and my friend needs a new chromebook
@@wademurphy9994what happens after June 2024
@@handd7046 in reference to the pixelbook 2017, nothing, just no more updates. It'll still function as it always has but won't get any security updates or new features to Chrome OS.
@@handd7046actually, since Chromebooks are supported for 10 years is now until 2027
Dang, really detailed video, thanks.
Are Chromebooks similar to Windows laptops when it comes to performance differences while plugged vs unplugged?
I'm using Acer Spin 731-2W i7, there are no performance differences.
You can get a good one for 200 dollars with 16gb of RAM.
Haha if that’s the case im never selling mine😂
@@newera_tb7294 I got mine for 199. Almost new.
Just ordered one for 200 last night lol this is a steal
ok but go to the important think, can i play LOL in a pixelbook i7 7y75? pleasee i need know this

I may have missed if you mentioned that you could run two monitors out of this from a USB hub?
You can. I use my pixelbook with a Type C hub with external monitor, keyboard and mouse.
can you tell me the generation of Laptop HP Compaq 620 4GB Intel Core 2 Duo HDD 320GB ?
Sounds like about 2007-2011. That’s when my core 2 duos came from.
I have this Pixelbook but my battery don't last long and it's at 86% health. Any idea on a remedy please? Also my space bar key doesn't register when pressed at the edges
You can try replacing the battery, but the way it's made makes it pretty difficult to do. I would try to find a tech repair place that could maybe replace it for you.
i just bought one of these for $250...good deal?
Great deal. I've used the base model since 2017 as my daily driver laptop.
Great deal imo as well
Just grabbed one for 200
That's a steal considering it'll last until 2027
I picked one up because of this video
where?

Can i use adobe photoshop and illustration with features in it ?
Yup! I do
i just bought the go model for 120.00 from fmp
can you by any chance test if it can play roblox when you have the time
Asking the real questions here
dude nearly anything can run roblox
@@hack3r594 l tryed playing on my samsung chromebook 4 but it was really unplayable
My i3 6th gen laptop played roblox ok with 4 gb ram so you should be fine
Yes you can play it. This is one of the few handful of Chromebooks that has good specs to handle things
And updates about longer support?
The pixelbook will receive updates and support until 2027
Google should update this in 2024.
Just got a message that my last update will be 11 2024
how does that match with all these comments saying 2027?
@@redberries8039 because we are talking of an already 3 years old chromebook, not the most recent ones
While I dislike programmed obsolescence, given the nature of internet connected devices, 7 years of support (on average) seems fair enough.
I really enjoy this kind of review, as most people won't typically have access to such devices at launch.
Extending the life of Chromebooks for online related tasks would require some workarounds, installing Linux (or even Windows) is always a choice (haven't checked the ongoing state of how to but even manufacturers do it, so it should be doable) and even virtual machines inside Chrome OS appears to be a possibility.
Other than that they can be useful as a second screen (USB to HDMI), working as an offline device or dedicated to certain apps (like games or making music), for example.
Yeah Chromebook life spans compare favorably to phones usually. Like my $200 duet from 2020 is supported through 2028. I doubt Galaxy tab S8 will get to 2024.
There’s always something like flex once it hits the end of support
It's actually up to 10 years now, so it'll be supported up until 2027
🙏🏽
why would anybody buy a 5 years old *SECOND HANDED* laptop? how is it logical?
to be fair Google actually stopped selling the Pixelbook in 2020...so it's been 2 years since it can be last purchased in stores...I agree that it was overpriced originally imo but guessing price would be the main reason some are interested? he mentions that it's
Me: Buys a windows 98 IBM Thinkpad laptop for retro gaming.
I bought mine this year and it was as good as new. Very fast, lovely screen, great battery life; keyboard to die for and the track-pad is the best I have used. Chrome OS has gotten all grown up. I bought it for 200.00 (UK). A steal. So why not?
@@RXSVN_2 Yeah - why not? I bet it runs those retro games well!!
Mine is shit don't buy kebourd broke as you can see and has issues just DONT BUY most games don't run camera is so bad!!
