Packrafting at the Sea with a Brompton? MRS Micro packraft
Вставка

- I am really stoked about my new Packraft, the MRS Micro Packraft XS. In this video, I cycled to my favourite beach with my Brompton and launched the boat from a quiet spot along the beach for the very first time and explore nearby shores.
This Packraft will open up many adventure options for me locally as well as overseas.
I will show you the entire process of inflating and getting the boat ready as well as packing the Packraft back into my waterproof backpack - Hyperlite Mountain Gear Southwest 4400.
I have looked at inflatable, foldable or packable kayak for a couple of years and finally found the packraft that suits my needs and requirments.
Please leave your comments or question below and thank you so much for your jounrneying with me.

Folding bike + packraft is my dream combo.
Thank you very much for sharing your experiences, they are fantastic. You promote the love of Nature and the care of the Environment.
You are a great example.
Thank you my friend. We need the nature to keep us sane now and for our future generations. Stay safe 🙏
Nice kit! The Brompton and pac-raft seem to be a perfect combination.
Thanks! Indeed it is, both share the same characteristic - packed small and mobility
Thanks for the great video!!
So cool! Thanks for sharing ur experience !
Thanks very much.
Ha! Brilliant! 😁🙌
interesting outdoor activity !
Yes it was!
Great
Cool. Been a Brompton rider for may years and have just got a packraft so will be trying the combination in the rivers and harbour inlets round Sydney soon.
wow that sounds very good indeed. Enjoy and stay safe
Well done
Thanks Gerry. As always you stay safe in Chicago.
Amazing.. good choice if this compact raft 👍🏻 thanks for the video … nice backpack too .
Thanks Felix really appreciate it.
@@donaldpang will u b getting the air paddle ? Looks like cool add on
@@felixlee4458 not sure what’s that. The current set up is sufficient for so far.

@@felixlee4458 oh I see , that looks fun 😂
Hello, I congratulate you on the video, I had a good time and at the same time the images are relaxing, I already subscribed to your channel, greetings 😊👍.
Thank you Mithu.
👍👍
great challenge, but I would use the front transport bag, it is more comfortable.
I am getting one.
Awesome!
Time to kayak to pulau ubin for a camping night out :p
Roger that 😄
That's exactly what I thought. And then you can set up camp at that inland lake of the old mine, park your brompton at camp and go for a lake tour by boat.
@@beachstart do you mean the quary ?
@@donaldpang Yeah, exactly, the Ketam Quary - forgot the name. I had the honor once to climb to the viewpoint above the Ketam Quary and remember thinking, it would be great to paddle on this ever so blue water. But I have no clue if there is an easy access to the lake shore. I remember lots of steep rock-shore and it could be a nature reserve and not allowed. But this blue water sourrounded by the green trees looked amazing and cycling Pulau Ubin was a highlight of my travel - although it was on a Tern Link ;-)
@@beachstart sound exciting but I suspect they are fenced up by now for safety reasons.
So cool! Only I would give the life vest to your Brompton - it cannot swim if you should flip. ;-)
Haha that’s very true, need to get the bike a life vest. Will search for one 😅 anyway it was strapped very securely onto the boat.
Just wondering, why are you wearing a mask outside?. Love your video and your kayak. Awesome
Thanks for watching. I’m abiding the requirement of the law man unless engaging in strenuous activities, it’s a law to put on mask even outside. Mask is definitely off when I paddle 😁 stay safe bro
Finally long video...
hopefully not that boring :)
Hopefully I can get back and check this video out. For now you get a like simply for that title.
Cheers buddy.
Looks Cool.
How is the speed of the packraft? Can I paddle it with 4~5 km per hour on flat water?
Yes it is possible on flat water. It would also help if you have some weight at the bow to balance the boat. Thanks
@@donaldpang thank a lot for the reply!!
Oh my goodness! I am dreaming of a folding bike with folding kayak combination for a while now! I am half way there :) why did you choose the packraft?
Hi this combo is also a dream
Comes true to me. Hood you’ll get there soon. Two key reasons I chose a packraft - lightweight (mine 3.1kg and still not the lightest model) and packed small I.e. mobility. Cheers
@@donaldpang how does it feel compared to a kayak?
@@tandago7281 I believe it serves different objectives. Kayak can go go faster and probably more durable as it’s hard shell. For packraft, I feel it’s more stable and forgiving though it will not be moving as fast as a kayak but that’s not my priority. I can load my bike be it mountain bike or foldie on a packraft and remain steady but not on a kayak.
@@donaldpang Interesting, I didn't know that it is more stable. Being able to carry the brompton on the packraft and the packraft on a brompton is amazing. Speed is not a priority for me neither. What I do however really look for in a kayak is that feeling of sitting very low, close to the water, feeling like the boat is an extension of the body. (I dont like sit-up kayaks). That's why I prefer kayaks instead of canoe, for example, for me they are completely different as an experience. So I wonder if the packraft gives that feeling, or if it's more like a canoe.
@@tandago7281 you will definitely feel more relaxed in a packraft unless you are in a whitewater river 😆 I paddle out into the sea, let it drift and lean back and relax. My next video coming up you’ll understand. By the way, which part of the world are you from ?
This is super cool! How many speed is your Brompton? 3?
Thanks. It’s 3 speed 😁
@@donaldpang Is 3 speed good enough for SG, cycling mostly pcn?
@@thinktoolittle01 more than enough for Singapore terrain. Even a single speed is fine too 😄
what did you use to keep your brompton dry? looked like some sort of tarp. Do you have a recommendation?
I used a Waterahed dry bag . It is a military grade of gear for the Navy Seal 😄
@@donaldpang watershed in case anyone can't find it, I have watershed assault bag and watershed patrol pack and recommend them
Is it safe enough to take it with the bike to Ubin? Or it’s more suitable for lakes only with no big current? Thanks.
Personally I beleive it is doable and safe provided I take the necessary precautions i.e. safety equipment, study the weather, tides and channel traffic etc.. This is on my bucket list to take my bike to Ubin. Hope to do it within the next few months. Thanks
More b roll then real film.
