I am using TAC-SKY Comtac III replica with its PTT for Baofeng radios for 1,5 years and it works perfectly. Of course its not original Peltors, but for airsoft it's more than enough. So I shouldn't say that it is a waste of money.

Why not use your cellphone with wireless headphones? Also they have walkie-talkie apps for ptt options. I can see if your out of cell range but for the most part you should be in cell range.
Unreliable, while it's true many do get service, there are fields which are very far away from cities and may not get service depending on what provider your using. Also, battery life is huge, if someone forgets to charge their phone of their phone battery doesn't last long, those apps running, using data constantly drain battery, especially if you don't have a strong signal.
Instinct recently bought the TT Plate Carrier QR LC, because the other one was just bothering his movement capabilities being such a big size (the MKIII in L/XL). I Viper out
This one is build according to the EU standards for non licensed usage, so we can't change the antenna. As for range it is estimated to be about 700m from what I can find, so it's not that far. But it is definitely good enough for the usage within the team. I Instinct
There are some PTT buttons that can be mounted onto a picatinny rail of your gun. Never saw it from legitimate companies though. I also don't think that in reality communicating over radio while you're engaging actually takes place. Either someone else will do it or you get to a safe place to transmit. Usually you're shouting at guys next to you in an engagement which is already difficult enough on its own. I Viper
There are vox systems for radios that will automatically transmit when they hear noise. Even cheap radios can have this like the Retevis RT-27. Problem can be its either not sensitive enough or too sensitive, and could stay on when you don't want it to.

Don't be sorry. I agree, this is expensive and we're certainly aware of that for people doing small-scale airsoft skirms on a normal/regular basis. But for the purpose of what we aim to do (TacSim, BattleSim, Milsim, Polsim, tactical trainings & sometimes even real-steel shooting) it is definitely one of those requirements that make a tremendous difference. Not only for communication, but also for personal safety. For most it might seem over the top to spend this amount of money on those products, but also mind that we highly probably never have to replace these things ever again in our lives. And for that it's in our eyes money very well-spend. I Viper out
