No question he’s in the top 10% of all players...in THE HALL OF FAME. One of the absolute greatest ever, by a ridiculous margin. We’re so lucky he was ours. And he always will be. Here’s to you, Joe 💙
Incredible video! I wish I could have seen the glory years with my own eyes. I can only hold onto hope that our own glory years await us in the near future! Go Lions, and thank you Joe Schmidt!! 🦁
I lived this time period and became a diehard Lions fan by watching Joe Schmidt as both an incredible linebacker and later carrying his leadership on as coach. This video brought it all back. My favorite memories include the many confrontations with the Browns, who were the unquestioned leaders of the NFL under Paul Brown at the time just prior to Lions dominance with and under Joe Schmidt. Roar56!!!
I just heard of the passing of Mr. Schmidt--RIP. I will always remember him when he coached the Lions in the late 60s and early 70s. They had a 10-4 record in 1970 and lost to the Dallas Cowboys 5-0 in a playoff game. The Minnesota Vikings were always a thorn in the side of the Lions during that time and they lost every game they played them (home and away) during the seasons Mr. Schmidt coached there.
Played when the Fords did not own the team and won championships. After the Fords bought the team no more championships. I remember Joe as the Lions head coach.
One of the best players that ever played the game in his position.
I met Mr. Schimdt at a car dealership when I was kid. I made the mistake of shaking his hand. It was the strongest grip I ever felt. RIP #56!!
Thank yew Joe!

Respect & Love
that was AWESOME 😤
The first great LB. The last one survivor of the last Lions championship
He was my idol when I played Middle Linebacker in high school from 1961 thru 1965. God I love to watch him play.
What a man!!!
One pride let’s get it 🦁

Defense never gets the spotlight too many idiots watching the office saying oh he scored a touchdown.
