John and Gary Duncan changed my life in 1968 with they're incredible guitar interplay. "Happy Trails" has to be one of the greatest albums EVER! If the climax of "Who Do You Love" doesn't make the hair on you're neck stand up, you better check you're pulse.

Yes I totally agree with you: happy trails is one of the best albums in our music and John stands as the GIANT guitarist ever......if you want to check his work on Copperhead LP and concerts as well as his Terry and the pirates years, then you understand what I mean brother............ROCK ON

Listen to John's amazing performance in "The Fool," a rock symphony that belongs in the pantheon of great musical masterpieces. It's on the Pride of Man album and available for listening on UA-cam. Just search for it.

Agree--The Fool is incredible.....amazing one of a kind song.

It sounds like the theme song to a Great Awakening, especially the climactic ending. I think it's coming.

John’s licks were clear and surgical. And I loved the work that he did with the legendary Welsh band Man. R.I.P.

Was an incredible experience to see the Band with John on board. The Roundhouse really did rock for 3 nights.

I know exactly where I was and the year when I first heard happy trails and John Cippolinas sound and those amazing cords have always stuck with me. Wore out two LPs and still play the CD constantly, Happy Trails simply one of the best live recordings ever.

You can tell the quality of the man and musician by their comments. Great man who could go straight to your heart. Nice photos. Thank you. Terry and the Pirates best bar band in the universe.

Nobody had a sound like this wizard. I grew up south of San Francisco and was onto him from the beginning.
Most under-rated, under-appreciated guitarist in rock history.

I saw Quicksilver play in Berkeley back in, say, 1970, or thereabouts. The auditorium was basically empty, but that didn't stop Cipollina from rockin' the house down.

The great Chip - Micky Hart of the Grateful Dead once said that Cipollina's guitar sound, with it's intense vibrato and piercing treble, was like the sound of a brain surgeon operating inside your head with a scalpel!! ha ha way to go, Mr. C

Great tune. Grew up in The City. Saw Quicksilver only once, at the Avalon Ball Room in '67 or thereabouts when I was a lad of 17. (Still have the post-concert poster give-away!) Am a big fan. John gave the band it's unique sound. I play guitar and we often play "Mona". Thanks for posting. And, thank you John for your gift. Jerry

It didn't matter if the music was coming through the trees in the park and they were playing for free. Or if you were at the botto of the stairs at the fillmore.
You started running and were so excited and in such a hurry to get up front.
And to heck with the free apples.
Thanks John and QMS and Ytube for keeping the memories alive.

I saw QMS at Last Days at the Fillmore in 1971. I still listen to the first album often, QMS, often. Cippolina was awesome. So disappointed the reincarnated band was playing here tomorrow night but they canceled for some reason.

Wow, that's wonderful, you're a lucky guy. I wish I could rollback and watch these bands at that time, a fantastic era. I was born in the 80's, I dislike most of the music that is produced nowadays and when playing guitar, I prefer the 60's-70's classics. Cipollina forever.

Back then, the West Coast crowd called them the Quick and the Dead, a reference to those two bands, Quicksilver Messenger Service and the Grateful Dead. For some reason, the Grateful Dead was remembered. Not so much Quicksilver, even though Quicksilver had the truly great musicianship and concert sound.

Thanx, can never get enough Cipollina. Hadn't heard this one. Is it Quicksilver and the name of the song isn't mentioned. I'm guessing "Just Want To Follow Her Around". So at the risk of starting a big argument,(but that's the beauty of this such dialogue, as long as we keep it civil) most consider Hendrix the ultimate master, and of course they had different styles and sounds, but in my book. John was every bit his equal! His ability often brings tears! Just an astounding virtuoso!!!
