I bought a 1985 KX 80 brand-new in Lancaster, CA for $1,100 from my tax return that year. The best bang for buck I've ever spent. Rode in the High Mojave Desert a lot. Raced Sportbikes in the (mainly Decker) canyons of Malibu, with knobbies. Hint: Always downhill ; P Luckily I never got beat, but almost died a few times. Had SO much fun! I was 24, 5'8" and about 180lbs. That thing would also Trials like crazy. You could carry it out if you had to. You could blip the throttle like this guy was showing us, and swing it around 180deg and blast off💨 I would highly recommend one. Especially this model.💚🤘
Strange comparison, but interesting. Probably a few things missing is dry weight of these bikes, 2 stroke vs 4 stroke and base MSRP cost. All are pretty major factors. Thanks for the information!
The KX112 weighs 170 pounds, the KLX140RF is 218. Not sure if that's dry or wet weight. Currently, the KX112 retails for around $5000 and the KLX is around $3800. (U.S. dollars) If you buy from a dealership, add about another $1000 for fees. Yes, odd comparison, but I chose to compare these 2 bikes because they are about the same size and there are many trail riders who might be interested in going with the KX112 due to it's lightweight and extra suspension travel. Thanks for watching!
My 14 yr old daughter rides a 22 KLX 140 w/ the 19” & 16” tires. It was really great to learn the clutch coming off the KLX 110. Great transition bike and so glad we bought it. Only prob was the clutch went out too fast. The big issue w/ the 140 is that it’s heavy and slow. I’m actually surprised how lazy it feels. That was great for a year, but now we looking to upgrade to the KX112 because it’s lighter and more power. Her friends (boys) are riding 250s and she just not tall enough to enjoy one. Also, the 140 will not handle a paddle tire. Does anyone have experience riding the 112 w/ a paddle tire at the dunes? For reference, my daughter is a pretty chill rider and very novice.
the comparison really shows the seat to peg difference. don't be fooled by the tall seat height on the KX. it's a much smaller bike in reality, and not just because of the smaller wheels. also note that we are showing the 21" front wheel version of the KLX. the 19" front KLX model uses the same frame, but the real world benefit of the bigger wheels is a huge deal. a taller rider who gets the 19" model by mistake would be hugely disappointed in how it handles the trails. the large wheels change everything for the better if you're taller.
I have a blast on mine. It's fast enough. Being a four-stroke it's super quiet. They're really two totally different animals. Better to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow.
140 would do better in the desert or trail rides. The 112 is for motocross or a woods bike. I'd like to see someone out a 112 2 stroke engine in a KLX110 frame. That shit would be a blast.
Yep, you would have to go with the 112. The 112 can do both mx and trail, but the 140 can only do trail. It would just not be competitive on a track and would be limited in terms of the jumps it can handle.
112 is def more limited on trails if ur in desert or doing hills. Even a 125 2 stroke i wouldn't send it in the desert the same way i wouldn't take the 140 to the track without serious modifications like BBR does.
Yes it can, but only if you are the right size for the bike. If you're taller than 5'7" the short wheel base of the KX is going to make it sketchy going up and down steep hills and over obstacles. Plus the suspension is pretty soft if you're over 125 pounds. You could change out the rear sprocket on the KLX to increase the torque for the technical stuff, but this of course would hurt your top speed.
I have a kx85 large wheel I have someone trying to trade me a 2021 klx140 I’m looking to convert the bike into a super moto should I keep the 85 and convert that or do the trade and do it to the klx
It costs money to convert a dirtike into a supermoto (wheels, sprocket, and electric component) however supermotos are cool. I would go with the KX85 large wheels. It's fun on the road but it won't go super fast.
These two are not even close for a comparison. One is 2-stroke and the other is 4-stroke. A 2-stroke makes a lot more horse than a similar size 4-stroke. KX112 is probably similar in power to KLX250-300, I would say.
They are 2 different bikes for 2 different purposes. The point of the video is to help those riders like me who may be interested in 1 bike that serves both purposes. Basically, if you will just be trail riding and not doing big jumps, go with the KLX. If you have ANY desire to hit big jumps, than you really need to go with the KX...even if motocross isn't your thing.
The 16 and 19 inch wheels would be a whole different ride than the 18 and 21 inch wheels. I'll take the bigger wheels, the kickstand, the electric start, the more affordable price, and the four stroke motor over the two stroke personally. They should have put full size wheels on the 112.
More power, harder skills to ride, if you got some experience take the kx112, if you learning, klx140 is the way to, I own a klx140, but after about a month n a half already want an upgrade
The KLX140RF (same as KLX140G) is 21" front, 18" rear. The KLX140RL (previously known as the KLX140L) is 19" front, 16" rear. The KLX140R (previously known as the KLX140) is 17" front, 14" rear. For some unknown reason, Kawasaki changed the name of these 3 bikes in 2021.
the 21" front model is one of the sports best kept secrets. it's the only one of it's kind. no other brand has put full size wheels on a small frame. its genius. great choice for the wife or girlfriend, kids not ready for full size, or smaller guys who need a bike for tight trails with a slower pace.
Compared to a 4 stroke trail bike, probably. Compared to a 4 stroke motocross bike, no. From least to most difficult to maintain it goes: 4 stroke trail bike, 2 stroke mx bike, 4 stroke mx bike. I've owned them all.
there needs to be clear distinction between the old school 4 stroke design like the KLX, and the modern MX 4 stroke design. old school is way easier to deal with than any 2 stroke as you will outgrow the bike before the engine wears out. where as a 2 stroke will need the top end done often. however the new MX 4 strokes need to be rebuilt nearly as often as a smaller cc 2 stroke, but with many more times the cost and also way more intensive labor skills required. all to say that modern 4 strokes are a more costly hassle than a 2 stroke unless its a 450F, which gets nearly double the life of a 250F due to lower RPM and less loading per cc size. the 250's are working really hard and just don't last long. not as long as a well maintained 250cc 2 stroke. compared to smaller 2 strokes like an 85 or 105 etc, the modern 4 strokes still last longer, but 250 and 300 cc 2-strokes, when used as trail bikes, can easily go 200 hrs between rebuilds. by comparison the cam chain on a 250F needs to be done every 100 hrs.
more accurately stated... KLX = perfect trail bike/kids bike/girls bike. KX = best bike for aggressive male rider in target age group that's not yet ready for a 125.

Great comparison cuz I was looking at both the bikes really appreciate it thanks. Think I'm going to go with the KLX more of just a trail Rider

So glad I went with the 112 so much faster you get no joy out of a slow bike
112 is definitely faster, but it's not for everyone.

Hey very nice comparison. How does the KX 112 compares in size to traditional 125 MX bikes ? is it smaller ?
Yes, a bit smaller in every dimension: frame, wheels and tires, wheelbase, height, weight
great video! can the klx112 do a mix of faster singletrack and technical enduro riding? i own a klx right now but its weight makes slow stuff harder

More like 23 hp, but yes.

Kx112
Kx112 all day. Faster, lighter, nicer looking, better sounding, better suspension
Is it okay to put 21 and 18 size tires on kx 112?
No, they will likely rub against the swingarm, exhaust, and fenders.
