They all wrote "Brick By Brick" together, as sort of a jokey song, even he says he shouldn't be taken too seriously, and it's not because he's "too lazy" it's 'cause he doesn't think he can write as well on the road than he can by himself at home...
Yeah the bass is good in this song. But most people there arent musicians (I guess) and obviously most of their eyes are on Alex because hes the singer. All instruments are important but in pop music the most important thing is the voice with the melody and all instruments have to highlight that.
The only reason that the lyrics in Brick by Brick are so 'bad' is because they were trying to write a song with less then 30 words, hence why they repeat 'I wanna rock and roll' and 'Brick by Brick' a thousand times. Alex Turner is still a lyrical genius for me.
