This looks exactly like the rice and peas we make in Cabo Verde, Africa. This just further confirms that we are all one people, separated only by the destination of the ship our ancestors were aboard.
🇸🇷It’s amazing to see our ancestors’ influence on our cooking. Many carribean, african and south american are similar because of that. My country also has a similar dish to pelau, but ours is called moksi alesi. We also use de peas, peppers, cocunut milk and of course a bouillon to cook the rice in but have some different ingredients mixed in it. We use, for instance dried fish or smoked chicken and other vegetables. We like some marinated chicken out of the oven and plantains with it (and maybe a salad)🇸🇷
First thing I automatically press the like button in the first 1 1/2 sec. lol. But this really helping me with ideas of dishes when come home for vacation. I work a lot so I look forward to new dishes, and I love your instructions. Easy and beautiful.
I really like your method more than other videos. I will try your method it looks foolproof. I already know from my friends what it should taste like. Thank you
Terry Ann that looks delicious 😋 I’m trying it, it reminds me of a dish from my country panama 🇵🇦 it’s called arrows con pollo, rice with chicken.but it don’t carry pigeon peas, it carry olives and other ingredients! but the pigeon peas could be optional. Keep up the good work girl. 🥰
I loved your step by step instructions and your soothing voice! I'm in the process of making it now for the first time. I didn't have the sazon, but did have a different version of the adobo. Can't wait for it to be done 😍
Love your channel!! My husband introduced me to it. I'm Jamaican and your dishes resonate with me. Picking up some new skills from you. Your dishes are awesome. Can't wait to try your baking recipes 🙂. Keep up the good work.
Looks delicious!! Have u ever cooked this with liquid left afterwards.. we call it wet cookup-wet pelai! Surinamese/Guyanese- it’s one of my aunts favourite dish for her family, but I usually make the dry one :)
“Look at this beautiful piece of chicken...mmm” , I feel personally attacked by this comment!😉But truly, this is the most beautiful pot of pelau I have ever seen!🤤😋
You can use lentils about a cup of it and if it’s in a can just follow this same recipe but if it’s raw then put it after you put the chicken in the pot
It's not the same. Jamaicans don't brown the sugar and ads all the ingredients. Theirs come out white, other Caribbean people own com out brown. Most Jamaicans have never even heard about pelau.
@@lifechoices4749 True, we usually only Brown the sugar when making stew chicken and oxtails etc.. not when making like a seasoned rice. We don't make pelau
Life Choices , yes you’re right. We don’t cook pelau. Generally speaking Jamaicans don’t use sugar in our food. It’s the sugar that contributes to the darkness of the pelau. Jamaicans make “all in one” with many things: ackee, shrimp, callaloo, mackerel, saltfish etc. etc. but it’s not a staple. It’s one of those things we cook when we’re tired and can’t be bothered to cook anything big. Or when there’s not much food left in the kitchen and we do a quick one pot meal.

So happy to hear :)
Looks delicious!!
approximately, how much liquid did you use totally?
This looks amazing! Have you ever made it with shrimp?
Dominique Fields I must try one day :)
I'd like to see this too since I don't eat chicken.
You can use any meat or fish it's really what the person prefer..
Look so delicious!
I couldn't find the pigeon peas. But I do have lentils. How much lentils should I use and how should I prepare them?
You can use lentils about a cup of it and if it’s in a can just follow this same recipe but if it’s raw then put it after you put the chicken in the pot
@@TERRIANNSKITCHEN ok thanks
Looks good🤗 I want to make this but the stores only have green gungu peas. Can I use those? Or are there any other beans/peas that u can use?
Yes you can use those or lentils
@@TERRIANNSKITCHEN thanks. I have black eyed peas so I'll be using that. I'll tag you on the gram since I'm using ur recipe
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Can I add Browning with the sugar
❤️
I am making this today 😘😘🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲

But wat amount of sugar
Did you use 1 can of peas?
Yes
Thank you. I did too and its almost done ❤
@@TERRIANNSKITCHEN thank you for sharing. It came out wonderful!
hi do we have to put the green seasoning or is that optional
Optional
What type of peas and how much peas do u use?
Fancy Face I 1 can gungo peas (I used the Dunnsriver brand but you can use any of choice :)
Ok thanks
Please what u add was beans or not?
Yes they are gungo peas

Yes it do look yummy but for me I like mines a little darker
Hey where do you get the "sazon" and "adobo"??
Fifie Love hi I got them from the Caribbean but you can definitely check on amazon xx
Did you cook the peas first?
These are canned beans so they’re already cooked :)
Is that piegon peas or gungu peas?
Tegan it’s the same thing actually 😆 St.Lucians say Pigeon peas and Jamaicans say Gungo :)
Can I put lentils instead of pigeon peas? Cause am not a pigeon peas girl lol
Shondell Joseph definitely :)
Do a video making bouillon with pig tail
RAJ'S LIFESTYLE & GAMING thanks for the video suggestion I’ll have one up shortly :)
you have two recipes for how to make the pelau but they are exactly the same
Does that happen to be a problem?
@@TERRIANNSKITCHEN no not a problem at all. It just confirms that it's a good recipe to follow and I cant wait to make it
You are not ready for a trini pelau yet 😜😜
the trick to pelau is the water ratio. you need to be more specific. and yours didn't have 'bun bun''
Raynell Nurse she said two cups of lukewarm water. dk how much more specific it gets😊
All palau have bun bun 😎😂😂
Can you use any type of peas ?
Yes any peas of preference
