As an outsider with limited knowledge on China-Taiwan relations, peace is preferable to war but how can you have dialogue with a country whose government wants to control you and classifies you as a breakaway province? You can give concessions but if you give an inch, they might take a mile.

Taiwan is not independent yet. the status quo as agreement by the law on both side is Taiwan is a province of China. the only disagreement in the law of the 2 side is who is the leader of China. this is not China being expansionist, the world recognise Taiwan as chinese territory, this is why US and EU does not recognise Taiwan as a country. just like how China does not recognise Crimea as a country. just because you are self govern doesn't mean you are independence, unti Ukraine accept Crimea exit, Crimea is still legally Ukraine territory, until China accept Taiwan exit, Taiwan is still legally China Territory. this is how international law work, why this is so is to avoid picking side in a civil war. just like how UK and France did not send arm to the confed and try to help then win against US, because doing so would be interfering with the domestic politic of another country.

The 1 China 2 Policy denotes that HK & Macau can have their own system of governance. Where as the Taiwan "status quo" would be different because Beijing can no longer participate in a free, independent election neither can it appoint anyone among those Presidential candidate. The CCP has no strings attach either to Taiwan's constitution. Therefore the status quo would mean having it's own independent administration, constitution, legislation & a separate judicial functions. There's also a separate Taiwan military forces. A reunification with Beijing would be illegal ditching the status quo. Every Taiwanese politician should refrain from consulting & seeking political advise from Beijing acting like they are traitors to Taiwan & subordinates to the CCP.

1992 mistakes was to draft unity of the two states through ambiguity with aims that the two nations would draw one another from their current state to the other.

we all prefer ko, but we all know he doesn't have the vote win. to fix taiwan energy and security crisis, KMT is the only viable option. it is not ideal, but it better than a government that think you can delete nuclear power, and fully rely on gas coming in from other country that could be easily blockade and turning an energy issue into a security issue. I am for nuclear power because it is the only way to keep Taiwan safe. I don't understand why DPP can't see the damage that could be done to denuclearise. even Japan has started expanding their nuclear power and Japan is in a far better energy situation than Taiwan.
it was a mistake for Ko to to back out of the join ticket, but both TPP and KMT support the shift from a presidential system to a cabinet system. Ko and TTP can still have a role in the government to cabinet reform was undertaken. there is still a chance that they will form a coalition government to get enough seat to pursuit these reform since both parties are in agreement to depolitize the executive branch and bring in more expert into governance.
Ko can still win future election, he just need time to build up his party.

But Lai's house on 3:02 is actually illegally built, he is denying it.
First he said that the house is a old repaired workhouse, but it was proved not a old repaired but a new built in 2003 by the local government and the TPP using historical areial photographies.
It's totally legal since the illegal built before 2008 would only be "listed" but won't need to tear them down (they're too much of them), but the opposing parties menbers that also got caught holding a illegal built had admitted and teared them down whether it's older than Lai's house.
And Lai didn't make public officials property declaration for that house, in other words, illegal and dishonest on political sides.
So the opposing parties called him LIE chin-de. yeah.

If all you do is back up without negotiating something in exchange you are just slowly giving ground to threats and propaganda . The Hong Kong model was a lesson in converting from a partial democracy to the current 'managed' counterfeit . 3 Reasons why Republic of China isn't S.Vietnam Version 2:
First of all, unlike South Vietnam, Republic of China (so called taiwan) is MUCH more legit country than South Vietnam which was basically a US puppet goverment.
PRC took over the mainland which WAS meant to be territory of Republic of China.
SO, UNLIKE S.Vietnam, ROC was the legit China and PRC was the puppet goverment supported by Soviet Union before china became major power and the relations between 2 nations broke up.
Second of all, PRC LITERALLY removed and killed their own Culture, Books, History during revolution.. so they dont have the 'culture' left to claim to be the REAL China
(no bluffing at all... they literally burned their Books, killed teachers and historians, Removed the culture)
Most importantly, Taiwanese people have will to fight for their own country UNLIKE South Vietnam

if taiwan people had the will to fight, they would not end 2 year consciption. taiwan would not be facing an army with only 70% of it required manpower. people just ain't joining the army.

Whether a country is independent does not depend on whether keyboard warriors recognize it, but on whether it belongs to other countries

When I traveled to Taiwan, I did not need to interact with Chinese bureaucracy and customs at all. I didn't even have to use RMB or Chinese applications. This means it doesn't practically belong to China either. The keyboard warrior here might be you.

The difference between PRC and ROC is PRC vowed to take (共)any assets (產) they see first the asset is her people. ROC let all her her people (國民) enjoy their own assets.

What are you talking about? She was by far the most hawkish on China. She's a warmonger. I'm so glad she's lost the local elections and quit as party leader.
