I've just got back to NZ after visiting family in the UK for the first time in four years and this was the first time I've not managed a quick trip up to the Wainstones. I've spent a lot of time up there in the past climbing with family and friends or just on my own with rock shoes and chalk bag and the wind for company. Good stuff!!! Just a little tip that works very well on the mashed potatoes: Save and clean out (recycle) a 2-person freeze-dry meal bag (just pack it as an empty, ready to use cooking bag). When it's meal time... put the dry-mix potato in the re-use freeze-dry bag, add boiling water as needed, let sit, and just like that perfect mashed potato and no dishes to deal with. Great hand and foot warmer as well.

I noticed in your videos that Blue is very well trained and you two work well together. That reflects back on you as a person. Good job. Afternoon flower, I'm really enjoying your videos and they have been really helpful. I'm new to wild camping and yet to go away for my first night out. I have some experience with the army but that was 8 years ago and we had 120 litre bergens and Land Rovers and Bedfords, I wasn't infantry but we did have to basha up at times. I've been buying new gear and using some old army kit, my pack is an 85 litre but was far too heavy when loaded with what I thought was necessary kit, I'm slimming down kit and buying a 65 litre pack to force myself to go light. I plan to out first week of November as a test of my kit, I've gone mostly budget to get started but payed out for some not too expensive but decent kit, some of which you reviewed. I'm hoping to go with an experienced camper but yet to find one in the North East of England who is willing to show me the path in the right direction and gain enough confidence to go solo.

I use that headlamp for night sea fishing on the rocks and cliffs of northumberland for cod, love it mainly just stays on the second flood setting 90% of the time, really only use the main beam for reeling in a fish if I remember to turn it on lol. My dads had a fenix headlamp for over 10 years thats still going strong in some nasty fishing conditions.

for cooking those juiceshot mini bottles once empty make great containers for oil just take of the label and pop them in half and wash out nice spot for dinner
I've read all the replies prior to composing the following. Yes, I've "liked" this & all your other videos. Gravy granules, hmmmm, I'm going to have to buy some & try them out, seems like an excellent addition to most any outdoor/camping meal. IDAHOAN brand of potatoes- you can't do any better in terms of taste/flavor. I just realized, I've not seen you cooking or eating bacon. Why not? Pre-cooked Bacon is a mainstay addition to most any Freeze dried meal when I'm out in the boonies + its my main snack food to munch on while hiking thanks to it's taste & fat/protein calories. I've concocted an energy gel composed of 50% Brown Rice Syrup, 30% Molasses, 20% honey & added some water to thin it out for my 5oz Hydrapak Softflask- all natural sugars. Plzzzz - which backpack (Make & Model) were you carrying on this adventure? Warm regards from bone dry Reno, Nevada U.S.A.
Thanks Mr Cole. I do like bacon and it’s quick to cook but as you say pre cooked helps and saves gas when out. The backpack is the Osprey atmos AG50. It’s great as the top unclips so you can put your essentials in and have it accessible 👍. The back adjusts too for size so you’ll have to check it will fit you my larger than life friend😉👍
It's good to see you back out with some altitude under your feet. That wind, though. It seems like it would be a good place for wind turbines, except it would probably blow them right off their foundations. Hope you're back to feeling 100% soon.

My youngest son's favorite backpacking (what us Yanks call it) meal was instant mash with a tin of precooked chicken added at the end. I need to try some more interesting cooking when backpacking. I tend to just do the boil water add to dehydrated meals thing. Time to get a skillet or pan and actually cook.
If you have the time to cook it’s worth it but often you can’t be bothered after a day hiking. I might do a video on some easy, healthy (ish) camping meals👍

I am always trying to save weight and bulk when bike packing and one area is food. I really like that Idahoan Mash, especially the cheesy one, and its great for bulking up a rehydration meal. Actually made a shepherd's pie using soya, gravy, dried veg and that mash, nowhere near as tasty as the real thing but I gotcwhat I needed out of it. Weather looked manky towards the end.

Yes definitely get a new smaller pack and build your kit up over time replacing and upgrading the old… and buy in the sales👌👍. Get out there pal

They are brilliant head torches! It’s nice having the bright power if needed but I’m similar and generally use only a couple of settings.

Pretty much same weather we had on Tuesday night on top of Kinder Scout (lovely during the day though). Wednesday was completely miserable.

for cooking those juiceshot mini bottles once empty make great containers for oil just take of the label and pop them in half and wash out nice spot for dinner

I've read all the replies prior to composing the following. Yes, I've "liked" this & all your other videos.
Gravy granules, hmmmm, I'm going to have to buy some & try them out, seems like an excellent addition to most any outdoor/camping meal.
IDAHOAN brand of potatoes- you can't do any better in terms of taste/flavor.
I just realized, I've not seen you cooking or eating bacon. Why not? Pre-cooked Bacon is a mainstay addition to most any Freeze dried meal when I'm out in the boonies + its my main snack food to munch on while hiking thanks to it's taste & fat/protein calories.
I've concocted an energy gel composed of 50% Brown Rice Syrup, 30% Molasses, 20% honey & added some water to thin it out for my 5oz Hydrapak Softflask- all natural sugars.

Thanks Mr Cole. I do like bacon and it’s quick to cook but as you say pre cooked helps and saves gas when out. The backpack is the Osprey atmos AG50. It’s great as the top unclips so you can put your essentials in and have it accessible 👍. The back adjusts too for size so you’ll have to check it will fit you my larger than life friend😉👍
It's good to see you back out with some altitude under your feet. That wind, though. It seems like it would be a good place for wind turbines, except it would probably blow them right off their foundations. Hope you're back to feeling 100% soon.

My youngest son's favorite backpacking (what us Yanks call it) meal was instant mash with a tin of precooked chicken added at the end. I need to try some more interesting cooking when backpacking. I tend to just do the boil water add to dehydrated meals thing. Time to get a skillet or pan and actually cook.
If you have the time to cook it’s worth it but often you can’t be bothered after a day hiking. I might do a video on some easy, healthy (ish) camping meals👍

Most videos I don’t use a mic. In this one I did for about half of it👍
I am always trying to save weight and bulk when bike packing and one area is food. I really like that Idahoan Mash, especially the cheesy one, and its great for bulking up a rehydration meal. Actually made a shepherd's pie using soya, gravy, dried veg and that mash, nowhere near as tasty as the real thing but I gotcwhat I needed out of it. Weather looked manky towards the end.
For the weight that mash is brilliant. So easy too. I have the cheesy one so looking forward to that😉
