A brief history highlighting some (not all) major events for your benefit.
American Revolutionary war: Freedom and liberty from British tyranny.
United States civil war: Thank God for Abraham Lincoln and Emancipation Proclamation, unfortunately more men died fighting to abolish slavery than all US wars combined to date.
WW I fighting Germany and WWII fighting Nazi Germany from taking over Europe and Japan attacking the US.
Korean War to liberate South Korea wanting freedom from communist North Korea.
The Vietnam War, originally assisting the French, the US wanted to help liberate South Vietnamese people as well from communist North Vietnam.
You can investigate other wars and conflicts where the US assisted to keep the peace, from Somalia, Gulf war to Afghanistan war. The US has been called upon many times regardless of a country's politics, race, color, religion, economic status to prevent oppression and terrorism.
The United States is a developing nation (still newest in the world) and can be better under the right leadership.
Aside from casting criticism on what you don't understand completely, assuming you're a legit US citizen....what have you sacrificed or done for your country ?
Checkout two great US presidents, Republican and Democrat.

To my father Kenneth Edward Roulette, born 4/4/21 died 4/4/97 very quiet deep thinking man,the very best father you could ever ever ask for, spoke very little about the war, only said how much he missed his fellow soldiers ,never said a word about what he did or saw in the war, after he died we found his military records, after researching we found out he was awarded the Purple Heart, numerous battle participation medals and of all things the Silver Star ,he was involved in some of the bloodiest battles in the South Pacific,we also found out he threw his silver star in a river in Tennessee after he found his best friend was killed in combat,my dad never mentioned any of this to his family, after all this he’d been he was so kind and gentle absolutely hated violence.til we meet again dad we all miss and love you so much.

I know this will seem shallow and disrespectful of your loss and what I imagine is the great love for your wife.
Sir, if you honor your wife's sacrifice, you will find the courage to share your life with someone else. Your devotion to your late wife's memory is admirable. And I can only assume it was equalled by her love for you and devotion to our nation.
We, as human beings, are societal animals. We need to be part of something bigger than ourselves. I can't believe your late wife would want you to continue to mourn her life and disregard any future happiness with someone else. Going through life without a partner by your side diminishes our full potential and deprives the community of a shining example that true love and faith affects us all and enhances the whole.

Lost my 20 year old son in Iraq in 2005. The "two lives" part got me. So true. My son seemed wise from the time he was a child, but we missed the best part, I'm afraid.

one day be draped over my coffin. [/rant]"

Since enlisting, I've grown and even stronger attachment and love for everyone who's served and is currently serving. I'm currently serving in the airforce as a ceremonial guardsman, and it's been one the most humbling jobs I've ever had and I'd never trade this for anything. Thank you to those to served and have payed to ultimate price. We will continue and legacy and continue to honor you with dignity.

My father-in-law passed last memorial day. The Army came and did the flag folding ceremony for him... It was outstanding!!! They were so sharp, and so smooth, the way the woman cradled the the flag still brings tears to my eyes. And the way the other gentlemen who brought the flag to my wife was outstanding, hat parallel to the floor, nothing less then Sharp! It was like I was at the Tomb of the Unknown! ( I was there as a child) It is something I will never forget. I am so sorry they had to leave before I got a chance to thank them personally. I wanted to tell them how special it was for my wife and I to have them there. That flag is now on a shelf on our wall. I look at it most every day. I am proud to have it there. My father-in-law was second generation Army! That day is a day I will never forget. Words can not say how thankful I am to all the men and woman who gave up so much to serve..... We will never forget you..... May God bless you all.....

My Great Uncle was a captain in the war and was a beach master on Omaha. He went in before the first wave in the attack. He directed the landing on that beach and helped soldiers out of the boats. He was one of the first American soldiers to land in France that day. He also helped land General Patton in the invasion of Sicily at Salerno. He also served in North Africa. On Omaha, he was standing under heavy German fire. Somehow he made it out alive that day. He later served in the Korean War. He served in the Army in WW2, the Coast Guard in Korea, and then served in the Marine Corps, and Navy. He went to VMI and graduated at age 22 and was 35 in 44. After the war he became a sherriff. Rest in Peace Captain F Perry Williams and the rest of the soldiers who sacrificed everything as boys and served in the war.

To them, I cannot repay the debt I owe. For them, I work at being a good, loving father and husband, a true friend, a loyal American, and pray that I would have the courage to stand, fight, and die for my country and each other as they did should the time come. These things will never be enough, but it is what I have to give, for them.

I went and walked among the graves at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery today, I was there to visit the grave of my father who fought in the skies over Hanoi, North Vietnam. I am fortunate that he survived that war and lived to be an old man, but I spent the majority of my time walking among the men who were killed in World War ll. It is truly hard for me to understand what these guys sacrificed, but it makes me proud to be a free man. I also lost a 21 year old Uncle in that war who was buried in Luxembourg before he was returned home.

Yes, I come from a Military Family and see what Our American Government gives ppl who have served in America’s Military not a dang thing and Our American Government should be ashamed of themselves and some of these young ppl that are scared to take a stand for their own ancestors.

You’re so right. It hurts !!! I’m so sorry for our children being flown, shipped, and bused to get to sign up for being our country’s sacrificial lamb instead of us protecting those here. Israel, Palestine, Egypt, China, etc. are always going to be in trouble. They choose not to get along. Why are we there??? War is bc someone wants something that doesn’t belong to them. The ruler also doesn’t have to go. I would never have allowed my sons to go.
My Dad and brother were in the Navy and
I missed my brother so much after him getting out of an orphanage now on a ship in Hawaii. I can’t imagine his feelings of abandonment again not to mention where he was being shipped next

As an Israeli American citizen who has experienced both Memorial Days . I must say - the Americans celebrating Memorial Day is one of the weirdest traditions . U have July 4th for that. There are millions of people who are affected by the lose of a close one and who are grieving on this day. It is a day of sadness and reflection, and day of appreciation and love . These words of Regan are extremely powerful ! Listen to them with ur heart .

I often think of my Uncle Richard Krebs...who was a turret gunner in WWII--he went down over the English Channel at age 19..and was never recovered. There is actually a plaque in a small church on the White Cliffs of Dover that commemorates by listing the names of all the servicemen who lost their lives (that they know of) in the English Channel. I am grateful to those people who paid them that honor.

To understand what it means to be a soldier, you would have to be one. No one else will ever truly understand. Not family, not friends, not country. We have some understanding, yes. But, true understanding only comes from those who have endured the fight. Stood side by side with their brothers and sisters as they have faced their greatest dangers and fears together. Losing each other. Some returning home. Some losing it all. Those that have returned still suffer... Always having those memories imprinted in their minds and hearts... Always remembering those who were not able to come home. Hoping with every part of them, that they can lead their best lives for those who could not, feeling unworthy of such a task... I can not begin to imagine the pain and pressure this bestows upon our soldiers. My gratitude is absolutely endless. While my soldier did make it home, many did not. We will never forget you. We will always honor and cherish you. On this Memorial Day and everyday. Thank you. Our many blessings and thanks to the families and friends of our fallen. You are always in our hearts and in our prayers.
    -Bethany
