Nonchalantly owning the boss with Frostbite and team skills, getting ready to finish it off. Imagine my utter confusion when Frost Relay started doing exactly 0 damage and the Beast oneshoted Vi and Leif, pretty much full hp-ed. Not that I didn’t enjoy how the battle was scripted, but imagine if Kabbu couldn’t be controlled throughout the battle, similar to Susie in the beginning of Deltarune. You start the battle, Kabbu goes full berserk, blinded by his desire for revenge. Suddenly the Spy notes asking him to “keep it together” make perfect sense. You realize you can’t even give him an attack command, as he acts completely by himself, ignoring the rest of the team as if he stands against the Beast all alone. But he still gets damage, and you try your very best to keep Kabbu alive, healing and shielding him while trying to deal more damage to the Beast than Kabbu’s basic attack. Then the rest of the team gets destroyed and Kabbu suddenly comes to realize what he did. He abandoned his friends, he put them in great danger - all because he wanted to get revenge. He also thinks about how he could’ve cooperate with Vi and Leif rather than angerly thinking that he must solo the boss. And then player gets control and Kabbu gets buffed, finishing the fight not for the sake of revenge, but for the sake of protecting the ones who supported him all this time. And image those sweet, sweet Spy notes, something like “He’s completely deaf to our reasoning! We’ll have to use our Shield in order to keep this fight going!” Thinking about straight up roleplaying the whole situation with berserker medal build mentioned somewhere here.
Dude everytime I listen to this song I at least once go to your comment and I read it all throught. Also your comment gave me an idea for an encounter in D&D. Thanks dude!!!
Emil Calisto Yeah, it is a mystery. But I suppose this is a good time to plug in how impressed I am about the genders for the ants and bee characters in the game. They’re all female (from my knowledge). This reflects the real way bees and ants work. In which all workers are female and the males are just drones that are only meant to breed with the queen.
Apparently, Kabbu and Vi were supposed to have their own themes and sad remixes like Leif does. Maybe Kabbu's theme could be the non-boss version of this melody. Could someone please reverse engineer this into a fan-made Kabbu's theme?
Kabbu is my favorite of the trio, and the one I relate to the most. He has my heart, my morals, and my dedication to those I consider my comrades. He is also the most suitable for a tanky build, which is what I often go for when playing an RPG.
Juat fought him with Hard Mode and Heavy Hits equipped in B.O.S.S. Kabbu fainted and Vi and Leif ended up ironically beating up the manifestation of the poor beetle's trauma for him. Talk about reliable!
xkimura It is possible he fled before they died though, considering how he said that his friends provided a distraction for the beast so Kabbu could escape.
I was down to about 1 hp with Leif and Vi and Kabbu had about 4. It was close to dying, at about 10 HP or something like that, but I was out of items and didn't think I'd survive. I was going to restart and try again with a smarter strategy, but then it did 99 damage on Leif and Vi and Kabbu suddenly healed himself fully and powered up and I was like "Okay... YOU GO KABBU!"
Me: I love Kabbu! He's such a sweetheart and he's so cute! Chapter five: We killed his friends and now he has PTSD Me: It is you who has sinned XD Seriously though, Kabbu was my favorite from day one and he still is. I feel bad for him and want to give him a hug.
This boss was actually personal to me in a way. When I first played this game, it was on the XBox Game Pass and I got up to this boss, While fighting the boss however, XBox PC's support was terrible as always and crashed the game. Upon trying to reload the game I got an error message and my save file was corrupted too. When I finally played this game on Steam and got to this boss, it was kinda like "You corrupted my save file. You're gonna pay!" Of course, it was all Xbox PC's fault, but I like to pretend this dude just devoured my save file because it makes getting revenge feel much better.

Hey want some Lyrics? (starts at 0:09) (Kabbu) You... You cruel beast, devourer of journeys, I’ll strike you down, right here and now, I’ll bring you to your knees, Won’t hold back now, it’s time for my revenge, Vi, and Lief, please forgive me, I must see this beast’s end! Am, I selfish for fighting you again? If we don’t win I’ll endanger my friends, This cruel cycle will just happen anew, No! I’m not losing anyone else to you! (Lief) Hoped we wouldn't encounter you, Kabbu warned us of the truth, We didn’t want to have this battle, Kabbu, why’d you make this a hassle? (Vi) This swamp is even worse than I ever thought, Horrible tribe, no place to hide, and the worst thing we’ve ever fought! (Kabbu) This horrible beast that just kills, just for the sport, Wish it was easy but time’s short… You... You cruel beast, devourer of journeys, I’ll strike you down, right here and now, I’ll bring you to your knees, I’m stronger now, I’ll destroy you for all you’ve slain, Bit my friend, and my Master trust me, your sacrifice isn’t in vain! I hope I don’t regret, fighting the cruel Beast, I hope my friends won’t be upset at the least... Bloodshed of this monsters endless wrath, I’ll stop you now and end this harsh bloodbath! (Lief) Hoped we’d never have to fight, All of this for Kabbu’s spite, We are disgusted by your endless hunger, In the end, we’ll put you 6 feet under! (Vi) I’m worried of the endless harsh battle heat, I’m realizing your no bug that's just off the street! (Kabbu) I must protect my friends until the very end... Hope they will still be my friends...
Me: ok we can do it! this enemy is big but he doesnt have that much defense beast: proceeds to do 99 dmg ok it was a giant brazilian centipede (known locally as lacraia) what the heck was I expecting? This shit eats tarantulas for breakfest!
I think I actually did the frozen drill attack right before he was about to do his one hit attack, so the boss kinda had to ignore some of the damage, before proceding to one-hit kill Vi and Leif, and that felt a bit unfair lol. I had the medal where Kabbu does some damage when you block so it was over very quickly after that. Easy fight overall, but what a build-up man. When you see him crawling in the distance, and Kabbu telling his friends to hide...
the game always lets bosses stay on 10 hp when you shouldn't kill them yet, this is just so the "last phase" for this boss for example is a bit more than one hit, and for a certain man who likes to fully heal, i suppose it just makes it easier for you.
Kabbu after the fight: "It was foolish of me to act this way..." Me, who was about to demolish the "cruel beast" in a few more turns, with plenty of hp and items, dumbfounded at the random 99hp attack the game pulled out of its arse: *Thomas had never seen such bullshit before*
@@dtd1208 I just fought it in hard mode. I wouldn't have had a problem if I hadn't screwed up one of my frozen drills, but I did, so I had barely any hp left by the time he did his super attack. Since Kabbu gets back all of his hp when that happens, that means I was actually saved by the fact that the cruel beast started it's last phase.
When the same thing happened to me with the final boss I wasn't like "Oh, that's unfair" just "Damn, here comes the cutscene where they heal themselves or go to their next phase or whatever". Pretty typical of RPGs to do that.
0:09 - 0:25 is likely the main reason why this has become my favorite theme in the whole game. The overall theme is great, but that’s the best part by far.
I love the two guitars that come in at 0:47. It's like kabbu's friends themselves are telling him he's gonna pull through. Or it just could be representative of kabbu thinking of avenging them. And buildup before that is like representing his stand against the odds. This song just captures both the feeling of brute force anger and sad realization. Gah bug fables is so COOL
God, I love this boss theme! It's so catchy, yet fits the ferociousness of the Beast perfectly! The uncommon time signature at 0:25 (I think it's a repeating 7-8-7-7, if I'm hearing this right?) adds a lot to the frantic nature of that fight.
I was in a call with my friend who was ahead of me in the game when I fought this boss for the first time. In the call I jokingly said “what if I didn’t let kabbu get the last hit?” And oh boy he sure did
Tomek Gaming Just shut up no one wants that and the team is made up of 7 people and can get feedback easily and they KNOW what their fans want, otherwise they wouldn’t have made a 64/TTYD style battle system 16 years after TTYD and they know that the paper Mario series is no longer the same in terms of battle system, so just shut up, no one brought up sticker star or even the battle system, I’m talking about a sequel/ prequel in terms of story. If you don’t want to contribute in a positive way just keep it to yourself.
Emil Calisto I think people should bring sticker star only when it’s relevant. Tomek Gaming brought it up because all he likes to do is to insert sticker star into every conversation about paper Mario (even bug fables) even if it has nothing to do with it.
Chapter 5 is pretty memorable after a quiet chapter 4. Far grasslands, heading towards wasp kingdom after they launch an attack, having Maki tag along, Kabbu acting weird from the beginning and making a plan...and finally shining in the spotlight!
We’ll have to use our Shield in order to keep this fight going!”
Thinking about straight up roleplaying the whole situation with berserker medal build mentioned somewhere here.
Dude everytime I listen to this song I at least once go to your comment and I read it all throught. Also your comment gave me an idea for an encounter in D&D. Thanks dude!!!
I love that sinister laugh it does in between turns
I died so many times Vi and Leif might as well be dead like Kabbu´s old friends.
Little did I realise *this* was the true boss of Chapter 5.
_Kabbu best boy_
This matches the Beast's idle animation perfectly!
Alongside most features of the Beast altogether. It just fits him/her very well.
Fjorzek you made me realize we don’t know the beast gender.
Fjorzek no Crisbee and the bee that supposed to be Genow are the only male bees
@@CaliCosmicGal Also Monsieur Scarlet is the only male ant (ironic considering his attire)
Apparently, Kabbu and Vi were supposed to have their own themes and sad remixes like Leif does. Maybe Kabbu's theme could be the non-boss version of this melody. Could someone please reverse engineer this into a fan-made Kabbu's theme?
Man I hope they get themes eventually. What a missed opportunity
The Terror of the Swamp is technically a non-boss version of this theme, but yeah, I get what you mean.
i always imagined 0:47 as being Kabbu's theme
Kabbu is my favorite of the trio, and the one I relate to the most. He has my heart, my morals, and my dedication to those I consider my comrades. He is also the most suitable for a tanky build, which is what I often go for when playing an RPG.
Juat fought him with Hard Mode and Heavy Hits equipped in B.O.S.S. Kabbu fainted and Vi and Leif ended up ironically beating up the manifestation of the poor beetle's trauma for him. Talk about reliable!
* swap battle *
Meanwhile in an alternate universe
I wonder if Kabbu had to see Bit and his master die. I seriously hope not...
well if kabbu was the only one who made it out alive... probably so
xkimura It is possible he fled before they died though, considering how he said that his friends provided a distraction for the beast so Kabbu could escape.
I think that Kabbu probably saw them being wolfed down by the beast as he made his escape
Yooo my goomy brotha
@@goomygaming4108 Eyyyy
I was down to about 1 hp with Leif and Vi and Kabbu had about 4. It was close to dying, at about 10 HP or something like that, but I was out of items and didn't think I'd survive. I was going to restart and try again with a smarter strategy, but then it did 99 damage on Leif and Vi and Kabbu suddenly healed himself fully and powered up and I was like "Okay... YOU GO KABBU!"
Ultra Beasts? In my Bug Fables? It's more likely than you think.
Nick Masci I’d say it’s more of a Centiskorch
@@IAteABox eh centiskorch is more flat and small
Smogon didn’t like that...
Eh not the Beast, but the Dead Landers certainly.
I knew that intro sounded familiar?
Me: I love Kabbu! He's such a sweetheart and he's so cute!
Chapter five: We killed his friends and now he has PTSD
Me: It is you who has sinned
XD Seriously though, Kabbu was my favorite from day one and he still is. I feel bad for him and want to give him a hug.
Same.
I'm generally like that when it comes to characters I love.
I want to give him a hug so bad, it makes me happy that he found a great group of friends with Vi and Leif, it makes my kokoro soft and squishy
Here is the (true) moment in Bug Fables that made me fall in love with Kabbu.
I really wanted to hug and protect him after that.
The rhythmic piano at the beginning sounds like the musical version of centipede legs moving. Quite fitting indeed.
Ok the part where the boss knocks out both Leif and Vi and then Kabbu gets pissed is pretty epic
As soon as the guitars hit at 0:47, MAN. The melancholy energy they carry sure is something.
This fight made me feel so weak yet so powerful at the same time. Definitely a highlight of the game.
This is one of those themes where the more times you listen to it the better it gets.
I know this is a year old, but it’s like YOU were Kabbu’s old party and the pc save was him teaming up with the actual heroes.
@@themostcertified4377 That's a pretty awesome way of looking at it if you ask me.
If this fight had been easy (Idk how it is without Hard Mode) it just wouldn't have sold Kabbu's emotional stakes here.
Thankfully I died twice.
I accidentally got to max level before even the swamp- I hunted golden seedlings for queens dinners. also I grinded 5 levels in stream mountain after realizing how much exp bolostosses give you
@@sharischneider9720
Not me, I got to max level yesterday, while cowering my way through the Giant's Lair and dying inches before hitting a save crystal
Me: alright we’ll kill him next turn, just need to survive this attack and we win
The beast: I’m gonna stop you right there
I accidentally used frostbite to cheese it, was dying after Vi tarnished Kabbu's final stand by using Hurricane Toss after Kabbu's dialogue.
On Hard Mode it's not too bad but still a challenge. I might've barely won without the Kabbu part at the end.
That clutch moment Kabbu has during this fight, especially on hard mode is a life saver.
Rip kabbu’s old team
You wouldn't like Kabuu when he's angry
One of the only things to piss off Kabbu, yet you despise Mothiva more.
When I first saw the silhouette of the Beast I totally thought it was a weird cat, buuut thinking upon it now, they probably wouldn’t have gotten away with having your characters beat up a house cat lmao
i mean you do in small saga so 😶🌫
As an amateur music composer, I have been inspired by your works to continue getting better, especially this song.
I really dig the primal feeling of the whole area, and how it amps up all the way to this traumatic climax. It might take a 2nd playthru to be certain, but this was my favourite part of the game on my first time thru!
Oh yeah, when kabbu pulled out the shotgun and baked the beast into his birthday cake
Damn I wish this theme happened more often. It's suuuuch a good theme and fight.
I think the context and music build off of each other. Using the music outside the beast fight might dull its edge.
@@isectoid9454 You're very right. The reason each boss fight's music feels so fresh and inspiring is because they are only for that boss fight. That's what the music npc is for.
@@quinnsundquist-carr3634 Not many games go through the trouble of making unique boss music, and fewer have fights that represent anything other than a conflict of interests between two parties. The beast fight is one of the best examples.
this is my favorite song to listen to while eating cereal
Hey want some Lyrics? (starts at 0:09)
(Kabbu)
You... You cruel beast, devourer of journeys,
I’ll strike you down, right here and now, I’ll bring you to your knees,
Won’t hold back now, it’s time for my revenge,
Vi, and Lief, please forgive me, I must see this beast’s end!
Am, I selfish for fighting you again?
If we don’t win I’ll endanger my friends,
This cruel cycle will just happen anew,
No! I’m not losing anyone else to you!
(Lief)
Hoped we wouldn't encounter you,
Kabbu warned us of the truth,
We didn’t want to have this battle,
Kabbu, why’d you make this a hassle?
(Vi)
This swamp is even worse than I ever thought,
Horrible tribe, no place to hide, and the worst thing we’ve ever fought!
(Kabbu)
This horrible beast that just kills, just for the sport,
Wish it was easy but time’s short…
You... You cruel beast, devourer of journeys,
I’ll strike you down, right here and now, I’ll bring you to your knees,
I’m stronger now, I’ll destroy you for all you’ve slain,
Bit my friend, and my Master trust me, your sacrifice isn’t in vain!
I hope I don’t regret, fighting the cruel Beast,
I hope my friends won’t be upset at the least...
Bloodshed of this monsters endless wrath,
I’ll stop you now and end this harsh bloodbath!
(Lief)
Hoped we’d never have to fight,
All of this for Kabbu’s spite,
We are disgusted by your endless hunger,
In the end, we’ll put you 6 feet under!
(Vi)
I’m worried of the endless harsh battle heat,
I’m realizing your no bug that's just off the street!
(Kabbu)
I must protect my friends until the very end...
Hope they will still be my friends...
i so want to see a Bug Fables musical now. great job on the lyrics ^^

0:39 - 1:03 I can feel the stand up after feeling hopeless. It's so epic.
Kabu became my favourite character because of the beast
Me: ok we can do it! this enemy is big but he doesnt have that much defense
beast: proceeds to do 99 dmg
ok it was a giant brazilian centipede (known locally as lacraia) what the heck was I expecting?

Kabbu after the fight: "It was foolish of me to act this way..."
Me, who was about to demolish the "cruel beast" in a few more turns, with plenty of hp and items, dumbfounded at the random 99hp attack the game pulled out of its arse: *Thomas had never seen such bullshit before*
@@dtd1208 I just fought it in hard mode.
Alright, I'm just gonna beat up these three leaf guys without Maki...
THE BEAST APPEARS
Well, f****
Taking this guy out with a Heavy Strike was easily the best moment in my playthrough lmao
0:09 - 0:25 is likely the main reason why this has become my favorite theme in the whole game. The overall theme is great, but that’s the best part by far.
Fjorzek ITS SO GOOD
qlowquest I KNOW RIGHT?!
Scolipede Vs Heracross, Combee, and Frosmoth.
God, I love this boss theme! It's so catchy, yet fits the ferociousness of the Beast perfectly! The uncommon time signature at 0:25 (I think it's a repeating 7-8-7-7, if I'm hearing this right?) adds a lot to the frantic nature of that fight.
Am I the only one just imagining Kabbu ripping through the centipede’s guts during the 1v1 portion of the fight?
"These horns are rated E for everyone!"
"YOU GET AN IMPALE!"
"YOU GET AN IMPALE!"
"Not you though"
when you enter a Dynamax Scolipede Raid
Shit got real when both Kabbu and The Beast got +∞ attack
That's an indicator of the duration of the buff, not the power. Also, the Beast's power actually decreases during that sequence.
It’s a shame this boss feels more like a cutscene, but this music more than makes up for it.
The song that plays when an angry beetle defeats an evil Scolipede with the power of plot armor.
I will never understand why this track has 0 arrangements. It's the best battle theme in the game imo
chapter 5 was such a cakewalk for me, i was way too overleveled and just passed right through it with the bug me not badge
Local Beetle Annihilates Centipede Fatalis Through the Force of Sheer Anger Alone

Anyone want a prequel to Bug fables where we play as Bit, the master of Kabu and the game ends with fighting the beast. That’d be awesome.!
I just want anything with this world. Anything from a sequel/ prequel to a dedicated card game would be an instabuy for me
@@merxh00z even a game that uses stickers and has a lame story
Tomek Gaming if people hate sticker star so much why do they bring it up so dang much do you? Seriously
Tomek Gaming
Just shut up no one wants that and the team is made up of 7 people and can get feedback easily and they KNOW what their fans want, otherwise they wouldn’t have made a 64/TTYD style battle system 16 years after TTYD and they know that the paper Mario series is no longer the same in terms of battle system, so just shut up, no one brought up sticker star or even the battle system, I’m talking about a sequel/ prequel in terms of story. If you don’t want to contribute in a positive way just keep it to yourself.
Emil Calisto
I think people should bring sticker star only when it’s relevant. Tomek Gaming brought it up because all he likes to do is to insert sticker star into every conversation about paper Mario (even bug fables) even if it has nothing to do with it.
That one hit KO caught me so offguard, then again, same with the wasp king’s hits.
Chapter 5 is pretty memorable after a quiet chapter 4. Far grasslands, heading towards wasp kingdom after they launch an attack, having Maki tag along, Kabbu acting weird from the beginning and making a plan...and finally shining in the spotlight!
I finished every sidequest possible before embarking on this journey. Got Queen's dinner x11 and Magic seed x2. Most enemies I literally bug me not'd into oblivion cause snakemouth lab made me a tad overlevelled lol. Defeated the beast 1st try in hardmode. Was a bit surprised to learn that was it for chapter 5 lol. Was wondering why the swamp was getting seemingly endless.

Great boss great theme
Ya know, was it ever clear that the Beast killed for sport?
i mean... The Beast seems to be very sadistic (and perhaps even intelligent?) considering it grins before its attack. so it most likely does.
Red Hood Angel
Yeah I refuse to believe that thing is just a beast
it's just a straight up psychopath.
Especially with how it traumatized poor Kabuu.
The opening riff tho
Just beat this guy, and 0:55 was my favorite part!
Appearance: Satan himself
Attack: Stab that does basically nothing
0:55, that hit me for 99 damage
I think this song might be a little mislabeled. This is clearly the theme of Kabbu’s righteous fury.
bug fables🤝hollow knight
what if these insects were traumatized
pretty sure there's a hollow knight reference exactly where you get the berserker badge, there should be a nail (the base weapon in hollow knight, should anyone reading this not know) right next to where the badge lies in the chomper cave.
