There is a historical parallel to the "turning one's back on technology" thing in the finale. A few of the sailors who survived the wreck of the British East Indiaman "Grosvenor" on the wild, rocky SE coast of South Africa in the 1770s deserted the column that was attempting to march to "civilization" hundreds of miles away, and struck inland instead in groups of two or three. Most of them were discovered years later in native villages, surrounded by their wives and mixed-race children, mostly in positions of leadership, having forgotten all but pidgin English, and happy as clams. Other than a few more sailors and male passengers who managed to complete the coastal trek, they were the only survivors of the wreck.

They made it to Earth and were "scattered to the four winds."
A VERY APPROPRIATE ending to a GREAT show.

Probably the last really great sci fi show unless I've missed something recently, I will always think fondly of it.

It was more of a poetic ending than a realistic one. They were not moving to another place but starting to survive. Wait for the first storm or tornadoes hitting them. How can you survive with no meds or xrays, scanners? It would have been a waste of equipment and survival chances. A broken leg becomes a death sentence in those times. I would have kept the ships and form a city with it.

will10024 Humanity survived for millennia without them, and if something were to happen to our technology we would again. Our species is nothing if not resilient.

They became the forefathers of the Egyptians. Or the Toltecs, or the Mayans.

I get giving up the technology, but scattering was a terrible idea - they're dooming themselves... if not to death, then at the very least repeating history.

The whole point was to give the natives the best of them, not the tech. That was the main reason they got spread out and was brilliant

Natural disasters have a potential to destroy a whole civilization if they are contained to a single area, so spreading out was the smartest idea.

The ending was lame and lazy. It does not make sense. Why would people that have depended on technology all their lives, give it all up? How would they grow food, build shelters and just survive without their technology. I am sure that if someone has lived with that sort of technology all their lives, they wouldn't know how to survive in the wild without it. The ending just created more questions. The only part I did like about the ending is that we find out that some of us her on earth are part cylon, that was cool. So that meant that everyone that has the O blood type is part cylon.

I just finished the show. My opinion is why would you want technology at all, when for the better part of 50 years "your" technological advances have tried to hunt humanity down and kill them all. Why not try to break the cycle for good?

@@ScarredCitizen Yes agree. That is the whole point of the finale. They gave up technology and give the native earth humans, the best of themselves to completely break the cycle of violence where intellectual and technological advances get too much ahead of maturity, wisdom and emotional intelligence. Their hard learned wisdom, language and even their own DNA passend along the line too. The rest would be for theirs and earth human descendant to figure it out.

They rid themselves of the technology to try and break the cycle of always building machines that would end up rising up to destroy humanity. Apollo said that human ingenuity outpaces the human hart and we end up destroying ourselves. In show universe the cycle was like every 3 to 5 thousand years humans would create cylons and the war would start all over again, after starting from scratch we were at 150 thousand years and counting. I would say their solution worked the best so far!
