  • In this video, Bob shares insights from a recent home assessment where mold was found in a bedroom corner. The mold growth occurred near the floor, a common issue in the coldest parts of a home-outside corners. Bob explains the construction science behind this, highlighting how the corner’s assembly of two-by-fours allows cold to penetrate more easily compared to insulated walls. This cold surface causes condensation when warm air hits it, leading to mold growth.
Bob walks through the remediation process, emphasizing that while mold can be removed with simple soap and water, addressing the root cause-condensation-is crucial to preventing its return. He advises keeping the room’s air in contact with the wall to avoid creating microclimates where mold can thrive.
During the assessment, Bob also inspected the basement and attic. While the basement was in good condition, with painted foundation walls and no visible mold, the attic lacked proper ventilation. Poor attic ventilation can trap humidity, causing condensation issues throughout the home. He recommended improving soffit ventilation and exhaust to reduce overall humidity and prevent future mold problems.
