The fact that we could have drafted Quinn Hughes is something I will never forgive Holland for. But at least we snatched Seider before Holland could the following year, which is some nice payback
Amen. He can maintain a great team if he's handed it, but he can't rebuild. Cholowski, Rasmussen, Svechnikov, Zadina.. yikes. Yzerman walks in, gets zero draft lottery luck, and has hit on each pick. Seider, Raymond, Edvinsson.. and Kasper, Cossa, Danielson, and Sandin Pellika all look kike hits, too.
He will be a career Euro league. Probably end up in the DEL next, then the Czech 1. Liga. Talking trash right away when he was drafted did not help matters going along.
Hope Z's career continues and he continues to mature; having played many(72) NHL games this year was his goal I really think not languishing in RedWing land.
First off, I called Zadina a hype pick. He was a guy who blew up in his draft year, really coming out of nowhere. I am a Wings fan and was screaming for Bouchard. I said, "TRADE THE PICK, TAKE BOUCHARD!!" I hated it then, and obviously hate it more now. Zadina will probably have to go over and play in the SHL and see if he can re-establish his game and confidence. Maybe he can have a late 20's comeback story.
@@karlheinzvonkroemann2217 He was in Juniors. The skill is there. Holland ruined his development. He might be able to go to Europe with less pressure, and re-establish his game. I doubt it, but it's happened before.
@@edenisburning Is he still going to fill The Hab's net with pucks? I have a different opinion of his skill level and so far most people and his numbers are pointing to what I think. He's just not that good.
@@karlheinzvonkroemann2217 Do you suffer from reading comprehension issues?? I was not a Zadina fan, and did not want my Wings drafting him. All I'm saying is that his only option now is to go overseas and see if he can re-establish his game and maybe... Just maybe.. comeback to NA and the NHL at some point. BTW Habs fan.. How'd Kotter work out? The Habs get a top 3 pick, which Detroit hasn't had in over 30 years, and they still screw it up.
Tragic. Dude was hyped as a top 3 and dropped and now we know why. It would be a neat story if he slots in as a cost-effective, bottom depth piece and manages to have a minor comeback that way. Will never be the top-end guy he was hyped to be.
I was screaming for a Defenseman in the first round but they got another forward instead. Ken Holland's legacy got destroyed after that pick. Fun fact: Ken Holland from 2013 to 2018 only drafted one defenseman in the first round during a time where the Redwings were crying for defenseman. This drafting method destroyed the Wings defense and Yzerman is still feeling the pain of it to this day.
Ken Holland was DOA at drafting when jim nill left. Yzermans staff so far looks to do a pretty good job. Seems like most of their picks will be full time NHL'ers. Edvinson has a shot at a calder this coming season, especially if he had a good offseason and Danielson was good enough to make the team out of camp last season having never played a single AHL game yet.
He had his highest goals and pts in a season. All while playing for last place sharks. I dont think he let himself down. He will get atleast a mil once a team is close to filling roster out.
Zadina got caught into a mindset thinking it was the Red Wings, not him that caused him to not become the player many hoped he would be. He bet on himself. And he found out that in fact it is him. He’ll probably snag a roster spot somewhere I would imagine. But yeah. Did not work out.
I've always referred to Zadina as "Not Quinn Hughes", and it was a bad decision from the get-go. Look, they knew the Hughes boys were all going to be high picks. They also knew they were going to stink for the next several years and would be drafting high. You take the 1st of the 3 brothers and hope you get a shot at another in coming drafts. If it pays off, you've got something to rebuild around. Instead, Holland went for the shiny object at the last min
The Zadina pick is excusable if you're getting some wins along the way but Svechnikov, Cholowski, Rasmussen, Mantha... You get the feeling Larkin was a mistake.
Blues fan, love that Vova got the bag. I really thought he wld resign w florida since he just bought 2 houses there. But w kane and tarasenko, Detroit will be way better next season.
@lance2465 one of the downsides of winning the cup, resigning dudes that you want for the core. Glad you guys got reinhart and lundell resigned, big part of that offense
I mean tbf a big reason he’s -44 is because that Sharks team was so bad. Not saying he was defensively great but it at least needs to be taken into consideration
Poor Zadina. I met him at that draft. The general consensus was the wings where the number one winner at the draft. Given a top five pick was a bust and we know how the other players down the list are doing, The Wongs were the biggest loser. 😢
OK, to be fair the Sharks were a disaster last season. Zadina is not a guy who's going to carry a team. He needs help, and San Jose had ZERO forward depth. He bet on himself on a team that was never going to be good.
Unsure Dude whether or not you're giving Mr Zadina his fair shakes, right. Its not like Mr Hertl had an Awesome performance with Vegas, catch my drift? Presumably somebody had to handle the faceoffs and somebody had to pass him the puck, correct? How did SJS centers 'handle' their duties.
He's always looked like a bust to me. He's just not that good. He never really became a full time Red Wing. He got chance after chance but just couldn't learn to play a 200 ft game. When he got better at that he totally lost any scoring touch he had. Who's next for this reclamation project?
Zadina made the right move-regardless of his ability; he would have collected a a bigger paycheck yes but most probably not played at the NHL level at all, just languished under Yzerplan which is at 0 playoff appearances (last in 2016!!) Get real. Zadina played 72 games in NHL 2023-24; in my view that was his goal no matter what happens next
The fact that we could have drafted Quinn Hughes is something I will never forgive Holland for. But at least we snatched Seider before Holland could the following year, which is some nice payback
Z never learned how (or wanted) to play all three zones on the ice. Wings are building a team of tough, two way players and it should be fun to watch.
That’s my other teams forte that just won a cup. It IS fun to watch.
Watching this 25 minutes after upload thinking of Lego just frantically making the Tarasenko video at the same exact time
Ken Holland last first round pick for the Wings. Truly a guy who doesn’t know how to rebuild.

Not true. Joe Veleno was Kenny boys last 1st round pick for the Wings in the same year
There are only 2 Holland draft picks on our system. Massive failure. Adding the draft luck, it’s amazing they’re not last in the league. 😢
It was his first one.

Talk about a bust. This dude would be a 2nd liner in the ECHL.
Still wondering why we had to give a second to San Jose with Jake Wellman
Because San Jose knew the wings were trading him for cap space. Besides Walman’s skating he’s average at everything else.
Jake Wellman, Wellman was a beast, I love Wellman, Wellman is haus

Zadina is Jurco 2.0 - guy looks like he’s got skill, but can’t score no matter how many shots he gets, it’s unfixable
And we missed out on quinn Hughes because of it.....
Him as a draft pick over Quinn huges is a gamble that didn’t pay off right from the start lol
The Habs need scoring up front. Wonder if Zadina could be salvaged under Martin St. Louis.
Thanks Holland. Thank you SO much for drafting this bum over Hughes. Kane and Tarasenko make the pain hurt less.
Tarasenko?
