    I live on the Mississippi gulf coast and I have seen this before a couple years ago I was actually flounder gigging when it happened just like what you seen in the video

      @@erikdeeNOSPELLSNO really depends where you are, and legal size limits still have to be respected so you might get in trouble for accidentally spearing a short. I don't know any specifics though

    Flatfish fest. The last time i was spearing them was in 2014 at Foxton beach New Zealand

    Here in NC, we are not even having a flounder "season" this year. That's after several years in a row of a 2 week in September season. Hmmmm....

    Aloha. What is this phenomenon? I’ve only, unfortunately, seen it with stingrays. Never flounder. I’m assuming the gulf coast?

      One of the bays or intracoastal waterways of the Gulf coast.
      That is not actual Gulf beach water.

    Is it only like this one day out of the summer or does this happen often during summer ,, and I’m guessing the flounders are not eating baits so you have to gig them

      @@scottbetz777 don’t know why but your right about there being no oxygen in the deep water so they come to shallow waters to get oxygen.

      They don't die. They just temporarily go into the shallows to get oxygen but they return to deeper water once the oxygen returns there. 😊

    It seems like butchery not fishing , if lack of oxygen causes these fish to go numb like this and someone feels good about himself about taking advantage of it than I don't have much respect for it at all...
    Love fishing but this is butchery .

    These fish are dying or dead, it's exactly like the brown tide we had here in Mosquito Lagoon a few years back. To call it a "jubilee" is ridiculous.

      Those flounders are fine. I have seen this twice on the Florida panhandle intracoastal waterway. It doesn't last long at all and they finally spread out and move deeper during the day.

      It's not the oxygen.
      It's just something that happens once in a great while. I have seen it twice before during 2different seasons.

      There is nothing wrong with them. This just happens once in a great while.
      Marine biologists have studied this phenomenon for decades and are unable to find a solid reason behind this but have found that the fish are perfectly healthy.

      This is caused by a red tide pulling oxygen out of the water. It pushes all the marine life up close to the beach. Nothing is wrong with them. The red tide is caused by an algae bloom.

      There was nothing wrong with these fish. That has been proven.

      For some reason my first comment disappeared, but this is from a red tide caused by an algae bloom. It sucks the oxygen out of the water pushing the marine life up on the beach. The fish are perfectly safe.
