5V to 1.5V Converter for Wall Clock
- This circuit is very simple and can be used to run any wall clock for years.
This circuit has many other applications where 5 volts to 1.5 volts conversion is needed such as in toys etc.
The Schematic includes only three main components
BC547 Transistor & two 10K Resistors
A 18650 Battery is required to run the circuit or any source can be used such as a 5V charger. This circuit has a tendency to tolerate 12V input and convert it into 1.5 volts easily.

The title should be 3.7V to 1.5V for wall clock not 5V which is using USB power input. Its clearly mislead.
4.2-3.7V

Thank you very much for the video!
You r welcome
Great idea.
Thank you.
The sooner UA-cam bring back the thumbs down count the better so rubbish like this does not get recommended will make UA-cam a useful site again.
Circuit analysis:
SIMPLE ......... nothing more than a emitter follower voltage divider which does not do what the creator claims.
Calculate: Output Voltage = ( R1 / (R1 + R2)) X Vin - Vbe drop of transistor.
3.7 Volt input = approx 1.3 Volt output (dependent on load current draw)
5 Volt input = Approx 2 V output (dependent on load current draw)
12 Volt input = Approx 5.5 V output (dependent on load current draw)
If a creator does not explain their circuit or verify with calculations they have no idea about what they are talking about. Not even a multimeter to proove output voltage !
The Firefox AddOn "Return UA-cam Dislike" brings back thumbs down. They do still exist, the display in your browser is just supressed. Btw, for the price of one average 18650 I get 10-15 standard AA batteries in my local supermarket. This is sufficient to run the clock for around 20 years in theory. Without any botched job. I hope the 18650 also will run for about 20 years until the first recharge is needed... 🙂
@@srh2301 Unfortunately the add on only uses extrapolated data & not real data. It also has no feedback or affect on the UA-cam algorithm which recommends videos.
Ok
There is another issue that it is not Electronic :
If you glue the battery on a side position, the clock will unbalance and turn around its centre.
It should be glued at the center top, so to point a bit inclined (tilt) with an angle towards ground . But centered correcto y to preserve balance.
Boa lndeia
Gracias
What’s the point? A lithium battery will self discharge over a period of time (!). A Alkaline cell runs for at least a year and the shelf life of an alkaline is several years if not yet used.. In addition the voltage regulator will also drain the lithium cell.
Ok
And serial 3 diodes 1N4007? It works too and it is more simple to built isn't it?
How?
yes with capacitor
@@tijitwar7071 Battery 18650 is 3.7V. Each diode 1N4007 drops voltage by 0.7V. Thus, resulting 3.7V - 3 * 0.7V = 1.6V.
The battery should use 1S BMS battery protection to avoid over discharge.
5-0.7-0.7-0.7=2.9V
2.9=1.5 ?
The issue is to build an efficient circuit, the shown circuit is not, nor using diodes.
👍👍👍
Dropper capacitor with rectifier from mains is much more effective device for this, just calculate and insulate it properly.
And much more dangerous as clock is not isolated from mains.
@@JustMe-dx5xl should wall clock mecanism be daily touched by everyone? Just unplug its cord from AC socket before adjusting time.
@@JustMe-dx5xl also, these cheap mechanisms have no exposed metal parts but contacts in battery holder the whole circuit with end of power cord can easily fit into and be sealed with blue tape.
Very nice and very compact circuit...
How to buy this device or where to buy this one?
1117-1.5 enjoy
Output current?
Constant drain of 0.2mA and risk of over discharge of the cell. Rather use diodes in series or other passive way. Or Mosfet instead simple transistor.
In your first ad 5 volt in put but you are showing in video 3.7 v battery. Please let me tell about what is correct
😅😂
power loss kitna hai..
If only there was a clock that needs 5 volts input.
If only there was an ic that could do this.
This batery is 3,7 volts, not 5 volts
@@Hudsonkem
3.5V × i (r) = Wz em calor.
If it can take 5v and output 1.5v then better ditch the battery altogether already and use 5v usb charger for infinite power.
Can you make 9v volt amplifier for fm radio
I will try
Next idea: how about using a capacitor or supercapacitor instead of a battery? 🤔
Surely simpler to use a nimh rechargeable AA cell?
Yes. I have been using the same nimh battery for 15 years.
Can anybody explain me why clocks like these start to go forward or backward? I have one that used to go back, then went OK and lately goes forward???? Does temperature or humidity has anything to do with that?
Don’t know about a battery clock but a mains clock can go backwards as they have a start up capacitor that kicks the motor into life. If you turn it on at a certain point in the mains cycle then it can be kicked in the wrong direction mains clocks use an AC motor.
@@DavidCase-ov5uo By "goes backward" I mean it stays back in time.. not that that the hands go counterclock...
Full charge karneke baad kitna hrs chalneke bad fir se charge karna parega 18650 battery ko?
It can last for a long time, even for years, if the battery is in good health and fully charged.
Ok, I will try.
Ok. I may try
I will try this ... but .... These style of videos NEVER add a circuit diagram ( why ? ) .... this would help building and also appraise the circuit ( a multiple diode dropper would be SO MUCH simpler ! ) Electronic engineer = DAVE™🛑
Sir i want 1.80v output not 1.50v pls make it video thanx
Your video title is 5V to 1.5V and you are using a 18650 battery (3.7V) Is this good for 5V input also ?
Yes of course it can be used with 5V
@@AuxticsTechnologies Thanks
The circuit as presented will NOT work for 5V input. It will output around 2 Volts rather than 1.5V
@@JustMe-dx5xl Ok thanks, but what to change to get to 1.5V ?
Boa sorte
how to charge this
tp4056 board
Não seria melhor colocar a pilha certa
I never buy bc547 for FM transmiter homemade, and i like
is it a wall clock? so wire it to mains!
Video is rong
5 V to 1.5 V ? better to correct the title to : 3.7 V to 1.5 V !
Bol bhi diya karo yaro
Who you callin boy, boy?
That don’t make no sense.
