Logitech Extreme 3D Pro was one of the first joystick I've owned when FSX came out back in 2006 and used it for over 10 years, this is the perfect affordable yet reliable joystick for beginners

I've been playing Flight Simulator with a keyboard for several months and just got this joystick today and it makes the experience much more enjoyable. I should have purchased one of these a long time ago. It was on sale for only $19.99 USD when I bought it. A great deal!

I have the Logitech 3d Pro, have had it since its first release think I got it when I bought FS2002 or 2004, It has been my faithful flightsim companion and I have used it for many other things too, One of the weirdest that I used is the twist feature as a steering wheel when I first got Euro Truck Simulator 2 (Works better than the keyboard) and when I did get a wheel I used it as a gearstick for the same game, the Logitech 3d pro is very versatile very easy to use. The joystick and has stood the test of time for me, Even now when I have "upgraded" to a Saitek yoke, I find myself often switching back to the ol joystick, especially considering it doesn't take up nearly as much space on my desk. My personal opinion if ya short on dosh and really want some bang for ya buck, this one's the way to go. PS well-done Shane I'm glad this one is good at landing the Snezna - Time for some English tutoring I think. ;)

I got mine used for just 15€ and made a few modifications to improve tolerances, reduce play and completely eliminate the slight dead zone in the middle. It's now super precise, the only thing that annoys me about it is the throttle. Unfortunately, proper throttle quadrants, even the Logitech one, are currently ludicrously expensive.

    • @efe_
      @efe_ 3 роки тому

what did you do to solve the dead zone? I put some grease on all the contact points and put another plastic spacer over the spring, its a bit more stiff for space sims(that its a good thing cause enhances the aim).

I have had one of these since the early Microsoft sim days back in the 90's! Used again when I bought FSX and Combat FS. Been shelved for the past few years when I changed to a MAC and couldn't use my old FSX. Bought a new computer this past October for the sole purpose of FS2020 and resurrected the joystick. Would love a yoke, but the wife doesn't quite understand!!! But this joystick works just fine for me with all the aircraft, even the airliners. I can certainly live with it. Guess it hasn't changed since the early days, but would highly recommend it to anyone wanting as you say, a cheap but efficient control system. Appreciate all your FS videos. Thanks so much for doing them and enhancing the FS experience. Cheers from Calgary Canada.

the extreme 3d pro is the joystick i use for MS FS2020. had to clean off a layer of dust that was on it as i had bought it for Flight Sim X back in the day. still works great, despite being over a decade old. i did have to give the rudder some dead zones as i noticed i was getting slight rudder movement when moving the ailerons.

Extreme 3D Pro is an awesome joystick! I got my first one on the same day I got FSX back in 2009. Used it so much on FSX and heaps of other games too. That one lasted until about 2013, and it was just the throttle was getting a bit loose and the calibration was a bit off. Then I just bought another Extreme 3D Pro. In 2015 I was getting more in to DCS, so uograded to a TM HOTAS Warthog, and gave my still perfect Extreme 3D Pro to my brother.

I have had this joystick for many years. It still works as well today as it did when new. As you have clearly pointed out, it works extremely well with FS2020!! I think this joystick is the best entry-level stick out there. Having said that, I am upgrading (finally) to their Yoke and Throttle package. If it is as good and solid as the joystick, I will be one very happy customer! Thank you for sharing this review. Cheers!

About 15 yrs or more ago I had the Logitech with force feedback which was a nice idea, gave effective feedback as the ‘pressures’ on the different flight surfaces changed during manoeuvres, but after a while it went a bit crazy with random shuddering. In the end I ditched it for the Saitek X52 flight control system including pedals (which I don’t use often, mainly the joystick and separate throttle control). It’s been great for many years with capacity to map the many knobs, , dials , switches and sliders to the controls - in a totally different league to a simple joystick of course.

This stick may be great for a budget in general, It's incredibly ergonomic and comfy - it has 12 buttons and a decent weight. But if you are looking for any kind of precision (ie dogfighting) you will need rudder pedals and a throttle with extra buttons to even have a chance of accuracy.

@@rich1958 My logitech was having some issues with the rudder which is why I replaced it. I have the TM Airbus Officer Pack + Flaps/Spoilers add-on, the sidestick and throttles are great, the flaps/spoilers are "okay", they feel a bit cheap and not really worth the price paid. My biggest gripe with the spoiler is that you can't 'arm' it like you can in the real plane. I've set aside a different button next to the engine start switch which I use for that.

They tend to become a little loose in the twist when they grow old, but works, I've had the three legged cordless one during a period of some 7 years, the stickgrip itself is the same. Now I'm using the black and orange Thrustmaster P16000M and it feels nice and has more buttons, also the sensors for the analogue bit has a more sturdy buildup. My son has one he has used for a really long time, so good that he bought two more a couple of years ago. I "borrowed" one of his! ;) as MSFS 2020 didn't recognize the old Logitech in the beginning.

I have the wireless version, Freedom 2.4, which I got when FSX came out. It quickly developed a rudder axis drift issue where the rudder would be turned a bit to the left when the stick was centered. When FS2020 came out, I finally tried to open the thing and fix it but managed instead to clip off a small bit of plastic and now it's basically useless. Also, there was no preset control setup for it in FS2020. Very happy with the T16000M I got to replace it.

This is an old post, but the best and most versatile economy joystick for Flight Simulator for just about 30.00 more is hands down the Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS-X!! It comes with a fullsize throttle, that is attached side by side or detached as a separate control! It has a rocker switch on the thottle handle that with press of a button could mirror the rudder controls or as a separate function, I had mine set as a tiller! It is both PC and XBOX compatible, with a flick of a switch!

I don't know about "the best", but it will get the basics done. That throttle would drive me nuts, and even though I got it's bigger brother (the t.16000m), even that wasn't heavy enough for me to not lift it off my lap desk so I velcroed it down. I wouldn't mind using the provided screw holes, but I'm not even sure how that works. But it does check all the boxes as you said. Personally, I would prefer a yoke, but my disability prevents that as I _must_ have the twist rudder function, but then again, that's my problem. I also use my stick left handed, as I have a TQS that I use with my right, which would eliminate the objection about the throttle (and indeed, make it's very existence unnecessary), and I don't think this guy has a left handed config option.
So there's my $0.02 for free, and I'll stop myself now before I write a fuckin' book, which I tend to do a _lot_!

    Hello.
I used to play with a USB PS2 controller, and I used to do a feature in menu controls, It's called: "Center ailer rudder" in flight control surface/Primary control surface section, (I think Number 5 on keyboard), So this feature make the yoke returns to the middle in cockpit & it's make the plane balanced & going straight when I lose control of the plane or when I take my hands off the controller to relaxing my hands or when I get up from the computer for a minute, So when I came back to the computer I found the plane still going in a straight way & I feel happy. (This function it's not Auto pilot, It's Center ailer rudder)
But after I play with a new joystick "logetich Extreme 3D Pro" and when I adjust the same feature (Center ailer rudder) on one of the joystick buttons. So when I click on that button. I see the yoke returns to the middle in cockpit, BUT when I take my hand away from the logitech joystick, the plane going down or going up.
So I have to hold the logetich joystick all the time to control the plane. Why was this not happening to me on the PS2 controller?
    Is there any solutions?

Here is an advice for you , from a techy guy , get any kind of steering wheal , youll get paddles with it , and use that for rudder . Twisting your hand for rudder even if the joystick is precise and it is , i have it , its just too little movement , doing it with your feet can cost as little as 20$ , i actually took one set of paddles , disassembled it , used the electronics in it , but remade the gas and brake in to a bigger proper set of paddles , so it registers like Logitech , but is not Logitech , and its probably more precise then what they sell in store for a lot of money , so you can even do that .
    And it perfect .

Shane did say he was after a cheap joystick ( not in the title though a bit naughty). Your gear is in the serious category. All my controllers have to include Hall sensors or I wouldn't even bother. Moved on from the cheap controls years ago but we all had to start somewhere.

It just needs a bigger throttle thingy and upgrade to the optical magnetic or whatever control mechanism. Used to have this for flight sim years back. Got the new airbus, it’s smooth but the handle is too big and bulky and the top button 2 is hard to press plus the mappings and locations of the buttons are whacked! But hey it’s an airbus so it’s an airbus. Maybe I should’ve got the other thrust master (black spacey one) or the Logitech.

MS Sidewinder 2 is much better, but it has 4 fewer buttons. The problem with the Logitech is way too much tension in the spring.
Takes too much effort to move the stick.
    Sidewinder is perfect.
I dismantled the Logitech, went to hardware store got softer spring.
    Stick movement is great now.

I am new to FS2020, been use to FS2004, LOL. With this Logitech joystick, I've been having problems steering during taxiing. Frequently the joystick stops responding causing me to miss turns even at slow speeds. This happens before takeoff and after landing. It's so bad, after I tried to turn from the runway 27-L at South Bend Airport (KSBN), I started to make the turn, and the simulator took me back on to the center of the runway. Finally, the game froze up and I had to initiate Task Manager to end FS2020. I also noticed that the sim. does not respond after saving new button assignments and saved to my Logitech Extreme 3-D device profile.

Phewwwwww....... now I know I don't have to spend more money.... I have exactly THIS joystick!!
I found out that it's quite sensitive at zero position (pitch and roll), then I removed 10% of sensitivity (I realized that when i fly IFR, joystick is resting on the couch and my wife sits on the couch... airplane slightly moves only with the small movements of the couch). After this setting it works amazingly.
    Thanks for the video.

It is adequate for the price. At 40 dollars it does the job. I am using the VKB SIM Gladiator. It is a little more money but well worth it. It is extremely precise and smooth. I actually ended up finding the VKB when the Logi was completely unavailable for months.

On the cheap side, I'd recommend the Thrustmaster T Flight series. I used a T Flight X FSX edition for years and honestly it got the job done! I bought it for 20€ at the time (Yeah not quite that price today). Mine's dead now after being used so much, but I think the newer versions offer a decent option for simmers on a budget ^^ Might be worth reviewing that if you're down for more hardware reviews :)

I started with a Thrustmaster Hotas stick,A huge and heavy unit with a large handful of throttle which can be separated from the stick section if required.MSFS binds it straight away. This is what I used on FSX but was always curious about force feedback which is a feature of FSX.So I went online and found that the Microsoft Sidewinder force feedback 2 is the one to get,the previous version was not usb. They still come up on Ebay and once I tried one I've never really been happy with the hotas stick.MSFS doesn't support it (ironically),so binding is down to the user. But there is a piece of software that can be used called XPForce which can be tweaked to your own preferences.Unfortunately there don't seem to be any Aussie ones at the moment so It's either US or UK sellers where there are plenty but beware the odd Ron Hopeful asking stupid money and they will be a bit over $100 AUD before postage costs......................

Can't beat the price. But I only had minor issues with calibrating the sloppy rudder in slow flight also I had found some difficulty with certain crossed-control maneuvers like side slips and low-level hammerheads. Trying to lean the stick into a crosswind while twisting opposite rudder felt weird or unnatural and usually at the last second just before tires touch my fuckin nose will wonder off center, causing a side-load and before someone says ''oh! You should've come in with a lil power.'' No, they are wrong lol

Great review of the 3D. I actually use it for DCS Helos along with a x52 throttle which I use as a collective when in copters and in Arma 3 when flying there. I use my X52 Pro stick and throttle when in MFS 2020. Its a great cheap stick and is very good. I Use two X52 joy sticks in Elite as well as a X 52 throttle.

If you also want a cheap throttle control: Built your own!!! The throttle quadrants on the market are either only right handed, lack all the control features I need (e.g. trimwheel) or are way too expensive. I built a throttle control with 3 levers and a trimwheel. Based on an Arduino Pro Micro (€8), three potmeters (3x €0,50), one rotary encoder (€1,50) and some wood, aluminium and screws. Total costs approximantely €20 and it works like a charm. And the cool thing is that you can program it yourself as you like. And the possibility to add buttons and switches is also still there. And if you want to make one with even more levers and/or trimwheels, that doesn't cost that much more. In other words: DIY = low cost + maximum freedom.

@@AusFlightSimmer Actually I had one of the previous versions of the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. The model from 2004 (Logitech Wingmane Extreme Digital 3D) and it worked fine with FS2020 until I thought that it was smart to clean it from the inside after so many years........not a good idea. After my 'cleaning' action it squeaked and creaked like hell. So I had to buy me a new one. I looked at the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, but I found the throttle lever a little bit too small. For the rest I like the button layout. In the end I went for the Thrustmaster TCA Sidestick which is in the same price range. But I agree that you do not need an expensive joystick for FS2020.

hi DRUIDEZEUS here ! real good joystick i have for years, and use it on my gaming : space combat, flying, combat flying, etc ... even for cars ! but for FS i use especially the Thrusmaster X HOTAS ! very good for this with the separate throttle and lots of buttons, and two rudder controls : on the throttle and on the joystick. Nice video ! thanks, see you in MSFS as usual.
