I am 51 years old and I have played many games since the days of ping pong, space Invaders and defenders and on through the years, Atari, Genesis, Nintendo series up to Xbox PlayStation, but in all of my years of play even through my military years this is one of the greatest stories that has ever been told in my gaming history. It is like living another life of action and excitement and once you are immersed there is no getting away. If you haven't played this game and you want a good storyline to me this is one of the greatest stories ever told. Eat your heart out Star wars. N7 forever.
I still remember back then when I first played this. I went through all the galactic drama & lost some of my dearest friends to assemble the ultimate fleet. Every chapter of the final mission felt like Stalingrad, only difference is that if we fail this, we can't just retreat across Volga. If we fail, everything we've ever loved will perish. When people bid farewell, most of them say "good luck" because we don't even know the odds of us winning. The emotional weight of this game is so immense.
I kinda feel like the LE should've included more space scenes and show more allies helping out on the ground. Plus the full cut conversation with Anderson at the end. Bit of a missed opportunity imo.
@II Arbiter II Is that the one where he talks about not having children of his own? They removed that because it doesn't fit with the lore at all because it's mentioned that he has a child with his Ex-wife
There are no words to describe how I felt watching this, hundreds of hours put into the trilogy starting with ME1 and going through each game getting as many allies as I could and completing every single mission and it all came out in this single glorious moment
5:05 I honestly feel so bad for that one marine ready to drop and instantly gets hit as the door opens and he isn't ready. It even shows how horrifying and how deadly brutal the combat must have been for the resistance this whole entire time that Shepard was trying to bring help for Earth. Probably feels just as gruesome as the beach landings in Saving Private Ryan. Only, the bad guys shooting are devastating mutated laser aliens with the objective of annihilating all sentient species.
Wonder why they didn't try to mass produce the Thanix cannons for if nkt all most of their ships. I know experimental but the Normandy had them and proven that they do work. Imagine the Turian dreadnoughts with such firepower. Also kinda sad that they made this whole leviathan dlc and they have basically no role in the final battle. They don't even make an appearance on the ground of them taking over reaper forces even briefly to help Shephard.
You do remember the gameplay where we had to strip several planets of resources to build that right? While it might not be the exact amount I am pretty sure they are resource heavy weapons, hard to gather them during a galactic genocide survival war...
@@QuarianGuy most if not all of those resources went to the crucible. Also most of the species leaders knew of the repear threat specially after the ME2 dlc arrival. The Alliance (under Anderson) had been secretly preparing. Hell they even helped keep the Andromeda initiative a secret. With all the mining outposts they had and the schematics for the Thanix im surprised not one species decided to mass produce the cannon. I mean hell not even the Volus and they know how to get shit if they want it.
@@johanneshjortshj8646 its a weapon that fires molten metal at high speeds and temps just like the reapers weapon. In fact I think it was based off it. Given the time frame between ME2 and the events of ME3 and the successful trial of it on the Normandy (cause it was experimental at the time) id say no reason to mass produce it even if it wasn't safe. It was better than the guns they currently had. Honestly the only real reason I can think of is the power output it requires. The Normandy had a much more advanced core. Thats why I say put it on dreadnoughts. They have a core that generates similar quantities of energy as the Normandys core does. Even if you just fit two on there it would have been a huge advantage in the battle for palaven and earth. Hell the Asari who were the most advanced could have probably mass produced and fielded the weapon in large quantities. All I'm saying is that it seems like the upgrades that the Normandy got in ME2 that helped them against the collectors who had technology almost on par to the reapers went unnoticed or disregarded by the other species. Even the ones who believed the reapers were real and "prepared".
@Kc Ryan Nah he's right. If you save both fleets, only the Quarians show up in the cutscene and only appear on Earth at the FOB. Had to use a mod in the OT to have both show.
2:07 Turrian: wait who said that? Asari: was that a human? Human: wait who the hell has seniority right now? Geth: this unit believes seniority should go to the humans. Asari: I’ve been a pilot for 420 years so where do I stand in the command structure? Quarian: wait do we even have fighter craft? Salarian: a thought occurs to me, this fleet is made up of every allied species so why are there seemingly only human fighter craft present? Turrian: WHAT IS GOING ON!? Human: wait are we really having to follow a single fighter out of the thousands we have here? That seems...inefficient. Geth: this unit believes this attack was poorly planned... Krogan: Ha! That means we’ll have more fun!
Same way I feel. The star child ruined it for me. Not to mention his "I made robots to kill you every 10,000 years so you wont make robots to kill you every 10,000 years!" logic was laughable. Still love the trilogy, just the last 15-20 minutes was pretty stupid.
ME3 is my favorite of the three games until just after Anderson's death. Still can't believe with all the great theories they could have gone with, they chose 'mystical child AI'
@em m I totally disagree Mass Effect 3 was a mess from the moment we left Hacket and Anderson intro. Mars Palavan Rannoch Citadel Cerberus Base Earth All felt far below sub par. The ending was just another part of a badly thought out badly executed game.

There are several games with ME-mods. A good start is "Stellaris" as it pretty much allows replaying the entire thing (either via Scourge or AI rebellion) and there's a Mass Effect mod that gives you several ships. You even can found your own Council, if you like.
The Mass transit thru the Relay was the single most beautiful scene in the trilogy. Shepard's half assed commands at the onset of the battle make me cringe so hard though. Writing REALLY took a dip there.
@@shadowglass14 Depends on the ending you choose (you have to choose destroy so Shepard gets the chance to survive) and your war assets have to be high enough, otherwise they die no matter what
Would be badass to see like a clone wars moment u know Shepard standing on some destroyed rubble. Duel Wielding Blaster Pistols And transitioning into a N7 Blaster Rifle
They didn't. The goal was only to distract it at all cost while another small team was preparing heavy shots. And there was only few rockets left so distraction was very important.
To strain the mass effect shields as much as possible. It's under the same principle as the A-10's gun being able to penetrate modern armor. 1 30mm cannon round ain't going to do anything but dent modern armor. 1000 30mm rounds impacting less than a second apart in roughly the same area will
Their goal was to distract the reaper but even if that's not the case it's a better choice to die fighting when the alternate is to just lay down and die.
If I'm going to die to a giant space crab I'm going to try to damage it as much as possible even if it amounts to me scratching the paint off a really hard to reach spot for it
If you knew this thing is going to kill you, your familly, friends and everything that lives with no mercy you'd fight it with a stick. There's no other way around.
I played mass effect for the first time through the legendary edition and I got to say as cool as it is to get the whole galaxy together I just wish I could’ve seen the actually effects. Like those living tank Elcors on the ground shelling the enemy or asari snipers providing support on the ground, or the cloud bombardment fleet and Cerberus fighters play out in space. I especially felt let down that all the shit I did to get troops for the ground like all those mercs from omega never showed up. Though in hindsight I guess it is a bit to ask for especially now
The fighters used by the alliance pilots are reverse engineered Cerburus fighters if I remember correctly. (not as powerful manouverability wise, smaller cores and fewer thruster but also less expensive)
it's amazing how little I remember of the leadup to this battle- I have been watching a youtuber playing ME1 and remember even some minor engagements readily- but the ending to ME3? utterly underwelming.
EMS was below "best ending" but still good enough to ensure someone survived. The lowest destruction ending also has a dead Earth and the other species lost a huge chunk of their population as well. So even if they survived, they got forced back to pre-FTL era. In this ending, the damage done isn't irreparable (except for the synthetics) and Shepard didn't survive.
When you think about it, even if you fail to beat the reapers, in the end Shephard and everyone else probably does enough damage and kills enough reapers to more than likely give the next generation of the Milky way a chance at beating them, assuming you choose to just leave it to the next generation to choose instead of just destroying them anyway.
I still laugh at the Stargazer and child at the end... The child is totally the same adult asset they just shrunk it down and figured it was good enough...
i saw salt factory's video on me1 and clicked off the first 5 mins to buy the game myself. I had no what i was missing for so long. the first and second games were pretty good but it was the 3rd one that really drove everything home. Felt like i just finished playing halo 3 for the first time.
Huh, I just realized something this far down the line. Though this is by far my favorite cutscene in the entire trilogy, if the allied fleet is coming at the reapers at that angle, where the Earth is somewhat BEHIND the reapers.... then every mass accelerator shot of the entire allied fleet that MISSES ..... sends projectiles with the kinetic energy of about 38 kilotons of TNT raining down on the earth........ you got to assume that there is going to be a hell of a lot of "two and a half times the destructive power of the fission bombs that destroyed Hiroshima" taking place down there; we're talking nuclear barrage from the very fleet sent to save them. o.O
That “Reaper” is the oldest, largest and most powerful Reaper in the armada. Do you really think a single Thanix cannon can take that thing out? If anything it should be Harbinger who should have destroyed the Normandy, I guess plot armor is just too powerful

This made me cry. Such a beautiful story & ending. I really like the the ending part, too, with the child asking questions. The universe in this game is so much more wholesome with different alien species helping each other out, instead of that of "Warhammer 40,000" where every race are racist fanatics & trying to wipe each other out (with the exception of the Tau). N7 forever.

I've seen this scene so many times, in-game and on YT, and it still gives me shivers every single time.
That "Holy shit, she did it" form Admiral Hackett is so heavy on my throat. That scene alone is one of the highlights of this game I'll never forget
Star Trek has a phrase that should be a warning to anyone wanting to take Earth. "Don't push the pink skins to the thin ice."
@@dixievfd55 That's a nice phrase, I like it
I kinda feel like the LE should've included more space scenes and show more allies helping out on the ground. Plus the full cut conversation with Anderson at the end. Bit of a missed opportunity imo.
How many remasters have you played where entirely new content is added?
There are mods that also did it somewhat better.
@II Arbiter II Is that the one where he talks about not having children of his own? They removed that because it doesn't fit with the lore at all because it's mentioned that he has a child with his Ex-wife
@@Aegoram They did add a few things the game.
Like the part at 29:06. That was new. The game always ended with the Normandy flying off.
There are no words to describe how I felt watching this, hundreds of hours put into the trilogy starting with ME1 and going through each game getting as many allies as I could and completing every single mission and it all came out in this single glorious moment
Dude for sure, I was glad I brought the Geth into the fold, even though it was a pain in the ass 🤣
This ending alone should deserve a full movie. The rest of Mass Effect can ba a long running TV series.
Just imagine how beautiful this ending could be if we had a really good movie or show,
Series coming up 🔥
5:05 I honestly feel so bad for that one marine ready to drop and instantly gets hit as the door opens and he isn't ready.
I'm gonna go out on a limb, and guess that it wasn't so easy to mass produce safely.
You do remember the gameplay where we had to strip several planets of resources to build that right? While it might not be the exact amount I am pretty sure they are resource heavy weapons, hard to gather them during a galactic genocide survival war...
They were betting everything on the catalyst so yeah if everything went to shit here I doubt they would have a second chance lmao

Not all fleets are shown, that's not a bug
Were they suppost to fix it because mine didnt show both fleets either

Turrian: wait who said that?

If not for the old rushed endings and starchild the game would have been near perfect for me.
Mars

Does it bother anyone else that we don’t get to see the geth and quarian fleets flying side by side???
One of if not the best scene of a fleet entering for battle ever!

The Mass transit thru the Relay was the single most beautiful scene in the trilogy. Shepard's half assed commands at the onset of the battle make me cringe so hard though. Writing REALLY took a dip there.

Anyone else feel like when you first see Shepherd that she was about to say, "Buckle up, we're in for some chops."
Why would they think small arms fire would stop a giant skyscraper with a death ray?

I played mass effect for the first time through the legendary edition and I got to say as cool as it is to get the whole galaxy together I just wish I could’ve seen the actually effects.
Damn! When Anderson says "You did good child, I'm proud of you". That part always breaks me...

We did good...or am I all that's left out here?
it's amazing how little I remember of the leadup to this battle- I have been watching a youtuber playing ME1 and remember even some minor engagements readily- but the ending to ME3? utterly underwelming.
"one more story. This one is about a biotic god..."
Heh, destroy ending with Shepard dead and the Normandy stranded. Your war score wasn't in the upper tiers, then. Still, coulda been far worse.
Everyone: The big Dead
Well if you get the perfect destroy ending Shepard lives
This scene was such a pay off, it brings a tear to my eye
I still laugh at the Stargazer and child at the end... The child is totally the same adult asset they just shrunk it down and figured it was good enough...

Who else really grinded out every single mission possible to acquire every possible fighting force in the galaxy to get back at these mecha-lobsters?
Huh, I just realized something this far down the line. Though this is by far my favorite cutscene in the entire trilogy, if the allied fleet is coming at the reapers at that angle, where the Earth is somewhat BEHIND the reapers.... then every mass accelerator shot of the entire allied fleet that MISSES ..... sends projectiles with the kinetic energy of about 38 kilotons of TNT raining down on the earth........ you got to assume that there is going to be a hell of a lot of "two and a half times the destructive power of the fission bombs that destroyed Hiroshima" taking place down there; we're talking nuclear barrage from the very fleet sent to save them. o.O
Shhhhhhh🤫
Your Shepard looks like she is gonna pull me over on the highway and give me a ticket.

The Normandy had Thanix cannons, it could have taken out that reaper like it was nothing instead of flying in to rescue your team.
That “Reaper” is the oldest, largest and most powerful Reaper in the armada. Do you really think a single Thanix cannon can take that thing out? If anything it should be Harbinger who should have destroyed the Normandy, I guess plot armor is just too powerful
@@mingQWERTY Thanix cannons could cut through kinetic barriers, shields and armor like it wasnt there. It's the reason Turians scrambled to recover what was left of Sovereign after it exploded and cover the salvage operation as clean up to resume citadel operations.
