Hallo from Denmark again Great video . as I mentioned earlier in s another video . This is the golden age of the normans . Some normans had actully already tried to make a foothold in britain before 1066. In 1051 during conflict between Edward the confessor and Earl Godwin of wessex . Godwin and his family was exiled abd thief land confiscated by the Crown . Edward then invited a lot of Norman advisers into England . And some of them were trusted with the defenting the welsh border . And they built the first castles in England (moot and bailey type). LaterEarl Godwin and his sons returned with a fleet . Edward was forced to submit to the Godwin family . The Norman advisors were expelled . And the Godwin family became the de facto power behind the throne . And the border castles became property of Godwins son Harold Godwinsin . Later in 1053 Godwin died. And Harold became earl of wessex . And we know how Harold how became King in 1066 after Edwards death and the Norman invasion . But after William the conquerer became King of England . The Kings of Scotland allowed Norman knight to settle in and build castles . And if these knight were ancestor of Robert the Bruce . And when Robert the Bruce took the throne during wars with King Edward the first of England 200 years later . Normans also became Kings of Scotland . But by the 1200’es the Golden age was coming to and end. In southern The last normans ruled died out. And the daughter of one the last rulers. She married the german Emperor . And he took those lands. And in England . Almost the French lands was lost under the rule of King John . And the some of the Norman knights that came over with willlam the conquerer. They married into Anglo saxon noble families. And in time their offspring spoke English . And the Henry the fourth took the throne in 1399. The normans no longer spoke French . His crowning speach was in English . So the normans might conquered England . But the English culture and language conquered them in return .... And the normans was assimilated into the culture of the British isles ...

Hey man, just wanted to say I really appreciate this video as I feel that Tancred is pretty much the most underated crusader in the levant, and it's really difficult to find info on him as I can't afford to acquire proper articles or sources like the translated Gesta Tancredi.
I just wish you could have mentioned a few more details like was how Tancred was fluent in Arabic due to growing up in the melting pot that was Norman Sicily, or how after Jerusalem was captured, he rode north with a small force and captured the settlements and territory of Galilee himself. Because of this Godfrey was actually concerned of the growing power of Tancred that could potentially challenge his own authority as his overlord, and tried to confiscate the holdings Tancred had just seized, but eventually gave lordship over those lands as Prince of Galilee. There were many other instances where Tancred was involved in crusader intruige and plots, such as the succession of the rulership of Jerusalem and the attempt to partition Tripoli between Jerusalem snd Antioch, but I understand this video would've been way too long.

Mainly on how they and their men had fought during the war between Muslim troops and their crusader men like the battles they fought in and how they were fighting during those battles during the First Crusade between 1096 and 1099. Then find out more about the wars that Thomas de Marle had fought against his father in France and about the time when Enguerrand I, Lord of Coucy tried to do with locking his son Thomas in a castle forever by even disowning his own son. Also about the day Thomas saw a way to escape from this castle that his own father was locking him away and the reasons why Enguerrand I thought about doing this to his own son Thomas de Marle. The man who succeeded him as the Lord of Coucy in France. Also about Thomas's own reign over the city of Coucy, France from 1116 to 1130.

I know this happened over 900 years ago, but part of my love of history is my own emotional involvement with the narrative. The actors in this story are uniformly appalling. I'm having a hard time finding anyone to care about in this sordid tale of brutality and betrayal. If my sympathies lie with anyone, it's with the common people of Anatolia and the Levant who have had to endure millennia of being the principal victims of this brutality going all the way back to Sumeria and Akkad. Of all the candidate regions of the world that show humanity at its worst, this region seems to have the longest pedigree.

''Turks are a known nation much older than Heredotus and Torah knows about. They have such a courage that didn't accept pomposity in a world of simplicity and didn't accept grandeur in a world of tranquility. They have a love for conquering and they never adapted to lands but made the lands adapt to themselves.''
    Hammer (Historican)
'Turks are masters of destroying and creating countries. They not only turned countries upside down, they turned continents upside down and destroyed hegemonies that were very difficult to destroy.
History learned so much from the Turks. There are such monuments that came from their hands; they are ornaments of civilization''.-Hammer

People say it different around the world and it is still correct though said differently it just depends on where you are from it can be pronounced differently, even in the same country depending on where you are at. Here it is said by an Italian en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Taranto and here in English French and Spanish translate.google.com/#view=home&op=translate&sl=en&tl=zh-CN&text=taranto . English say words differently than the U.S. or Australia

Roger lacked the drive of Tancred. A ruler/leader/conqueror/ like Tancred only comes around once in awhile. To be a leader of fighting men you first had to be of noble blood and be able to prove it. That little rule kept many good men out of higher leadership roles.

ADANA was taken by my cousin Welf II von Burgund, son of Konrad II Markgraf von Burgund. His memory was apparently lost because he probably died as Adana was retaken by the Bachi Buzuks, so that all the Welf after him should be renumbered. Welf II > Welf III, >Welf III >Welf IV, Welf IV > Welf V and Welf V the duke of Bavaria > Welf VI

A true tour de force, sir, as you rule wisely and widely over the Category of Education in the Empire of UA-cam. With Clio as your Muse, you bring living, breathing history to the English speaking world in ways modern academia should, were it not rife with overweening pride in making an art form of mediocrity.
I had the privilege of studying under some notable scholars in the late 70's and 80's, at the very tipping point of American academia's long slide into political correctness and revisionism for political expediency in both the California State University System and in two great Canadian universities I attended.

Christians were not massacred in Jerusalem, the local Christians were expelled from Jerusalem when the crusaders got closer because the Fatimide governor suspected that they would help the crusaders.

    ISLAM AND THE CRUSADERS
The movement originated in response to the arrival of a new aggressive people-Selcuk Turks-in the Middle East in the 1040's.For they first invaded and occupied the former Byzantine territory of " Asia minor " and, after a decisive victory over the Byzantines at Manzikert 1071,they proceeded to occupy formerly Arab Syria and most of Palestine. This meant that not only was overland Christian access to the Holy Land blocked off,but so were the age old trade routes between Europe and Middle East-trade routes which supplied ingredients(notably, silks and spices)that were essential to the food and clothing of the West. The Seljuk/Selcuk Turks capturing Asia minor and the Levant had turned the Mediterranean into a cul-de-sac, and swiftly growing race of Western merchants-adventurers,whose sheer political force cannot be over-estimated,could tolerate such a limitation.
From a different point of view, however, the Turkish conquest represented a deadly threat to the age-old Eastern Empire. So in spite of long-standing disagreements between the Eastern and Western halves of Christendom, the Eastern emperor,Alexus Comnneus, appealed to the french Pope Urban II to send military assistance from the West. And it was in response to this plea that Urban preached the first Crusade at Clermont in 1095, urging the Christian princes of the west to take up the banner of the cross and expel the Turkish invaders-by force.
In this context, we are not dealing with " goodies and baddies " on either side. For there can be no doubt that the Turks were intruders, that they were skilled and ruthless fighters, and that they had little respect or love for Christians. But neither can there be any doubt that Popes address matched fire with fire-by hailing the " race of the franks " as a " race beloved and chosen by God ",while branding the Muslims invaders as "an Accursed race,a race wholly alienated from God ". and he proceeded to describe how they have " destroyed the churches of God...and defiled them with their uncleanness "On whom therefore-he asked-is the labor of avenging these wrongs and recovering this territory incumbent,if not upon you "?
