Another fine video. One of railway history's oddities is how the class 56s have survived - give or take - pretty much intact whilst the 58s that were built later and designed to replace them have more or less been erased from the scene. Those 50s look magnificent. It just shows the impact a new coat of paint can have, when you realise the 50s are around 25 years older than the 58.
Yes. And when you add the inefficiencies which must have existed when 56 build was transferred from Donny to Crewe to allow the 58s to be built!?!?. Surely BR would have been better off to forget 58 altogether and to extend the Donny 56 build by another 50 units.
@brianwillson9567 Yeah, in hindsight that's the logical answer. But I guess at the time the 56 was seen as a busted flush, and building any more of them would have seemed like chucking good money after bad, especially when Foster Yeoman cited them as the reason they went overseas for the 59.
@@brianwillson9567interesting point. And to further the point reading a comment by a Freight loco driver elsewhere on UA-cam recently he was saying (in his opinion) what an good loco the 56 is/was even compared to the supposedly more technologically advanced 66s. Let alone the problematic 58s. One last comment arent the 58s bloomin ugly!!
Class 58023 was once named Peterborough Depot and when it moved in position between the two class 50s it was nice to see a bit of clag from the days when the class 58s grace the British railways all those years ago.
I never knew the 58s at all having lost the railway mojo a bit - I do love the 50s for all their eccentricities - they were (in pairs) the first locos to level Shap, and I enjoyed many good runs (and a few not so good ones) between Crewe and Glasgow behind them. But this is a very interesting working indeed and thanks for posting
Fantastic coverage of Leicester depot, almost like 1990 again with all that heritage traction Hope 58023 has a successful weekend at the Severn Valley diesel gala
Cracking footage! Great to see 58023 on the move. And don’t those 50’s look magnificent in LL Blue?! Thanks for sharing this little bit of history with us!
Another cracking video well done great camera work as usual I am really enjoying your lovely videos and camera work keep your lovely camera work up I am really looking forward to seeing your next video I hope you get a nice video next time also when is your next video going to be on UA-cam bye for now Philip
Do you know where 37901 is going to go on Tuesday? Me & my friend think it's going to Dollands Moor Sdgs but on RTT, it says its Railadventure 😵💫 So we're getting confused 😂
I’ve only ever seen one Class 58 and that was around 30 years ago. Great to see one up and running. Does anyone know if there’s a possibility for any other 58s to be restored or were the remaining ones all scrapped in France?
Another fine video.

And don’t those 50’s look magnificent in LL Blue?!
Thanks for sharing this little bit of history with us!
Yes. Plain blue, unnamed, as first in service..drab. As warships in LL....gorgeous.
So that’s where Edna is! (56098)…Did my 56 Traction on her last year and drove her up and down the bootle branch a few times.
Class 58s used to do the Furzebrook to Micheldever LPG tank trains, before they were replaced by class 60s, which in turn were replaced by class 66s
Great video as always 👍
Brilliant video mate saw it at Kidderminster
Hopefully 58016 can be returned to the mainline eventually
Fantastic Video 👌
WoW! That’s Awesome! I Loved it!
Glad you enjoyed it 👍
Class 58 I thought were nicknamed Wardrobes
The 68's are on lease

Whens the diesel gala , ..
.
Debranded Class 68s; could they be adding them to their collection?
I think they're the ex Trans Pennine ones
Rail adventure should take them!!!
Do you know where 37901 is going to go on Tuesday? Me & my friend think it's going to Dollands Moor Sdgs but on RTT, it says its Railadventure 😵💫
So we're getting confused 😂
How long has it been since a 58 visited the mainline? Also, can I have an identity for the 58 in the background at 0:42 and what it's future is?
If you watch the rest of the video - You’ll see up close shots of the other Class 58 in the background.
@@trainsplanes Oh yeah my apologies mate, didn't realise you would change location towards the end of the vid as you usually stay in the same place
Any idea what the 2 68s are, and are they 2 of the 5 that were sent for storage?
Yes - Those are 68026 and 68027 👍
What's the plan for those 58s then?
BTW how good do those 50s look?
I’ve only ever seen one Class 58 and that was around 30 years ago. Great to see one up and running. Does anyone know if there’s a possibility for any other 58s to be restored or were the remaining ones all scrapped in France?
There is only one left in France in Metz however it’s unlikely to survive unfortunately.
Is 58 016 just for spares ?
Is 58023 at SVR ???
Yep - Arrived yesterday 👍
Oh dear... 😂... Looks like plans have changed for house renovation work today 😂... Im going searching..
Nice to see a bone back in operation as it's been a very long time since ones moved under it's own power in the uk sadly! Nice video as always 🥰
