    Once I tried to use this technique to make an exact copy of a MicroSD card from a Nokia Lumia smartphone, I tried the way you explain, and also with the "dd" command, the memory card contained applications that I had bought in the store of Windows Mobile, but when writing the image file on another card and placing it on the phone, it did not recognize the applications, although the copy was accurate to the original card byte by byte. In this case, perhaps the phone related the applications to the serial number of the card's firmware.
