Some tips about it: 1. Try to find 2023.2 version as on video, there is something wrong with 2023.3 2. Dont put persistence on 75%. Better do 10-20% to make your system much faster and you'll have some space for some programms and settings.

Highly don't recommend doing so on a regular USB stick. They system will be extremely laggy due to the physical properties of a USB in terms of reading/writing data to it.
Most of the components of kali live are read only and not writable so they can't be updated unless you create a persistent partition to save new data. But even persistence doesn't upgrade kernel version. The better option is to install kali on a 256GB USB. Kali installation requires atleast 25GB partition including swap partition.

David you handsome, classy man, you sly dog you, you technological innovative mastermind of ethical use of technology setting up generations to come when they flock for the Knowledge when they realize how it becomes power and strength knowing and understanding how a system works.
Bro I watched a video said to download the normal kali and flash not the live usb. Idk why I didn’t think of this but you may be a life saver going to try later.
Thank you David for all you do. Your videos are great. All steps still working in Sept 2024. However, Kali is running incredibly slow off the USB. Every action takes a minute to 3 minutes to execute. Not sure if it matters which brand of USB drive. Or how much of the drive we take up for persistence. In my case, I used 108 out 128GB. Maybe too much? Either way, I'll try again using only 50% of the drive, or maybe I'll try tails instead. Keep up the good work, and thanks again!
A key thing was missed here.....This live image will not work out of the box on all hardware configurations....especially if you have one of the newer nvidia cards...the image for the live boot of Kali is not kept up to date as much as the other images which even the latest still doesn't work. whilst nvidia tells you how to install the latest drivers no one seems to says (nvidia or kali support) what to do to get the latest drivers when the image just won't boot at all, not even to grub! for those that want to know, you'll need a different machine with older hardware that you can boot the live image from and assuming you've set it up with persistance, download the drivers and install the drivers (all of them, it's a huge file and ignore the messages of hardware not found) and once installed you should then be able to go back to your machine with the new cards and it should boot...I had to do this with the 4070 cards.
I do the same but after booting from pendrive Kali doesn't start instead grub starts and i'm stuck pls help me regarding this. I put the command boot it shows (load the kernel first)
I don't have a Windows machine to run Rufus from and other tools such as Balena Etcher don't seem to support setting up persistence. I guess I could run it from a Windows VM with the USB stick passed through to it, but I'm perverse and wanted to be able to do it all from Linux and understand how it works. Essentially, once you've written the Kali ISO to the USB stick with 'dd' or Balena Etcher or whatever, you create another partition, give it an ext3 filesystem with the label 'persistence', then write a file called 'persistence.conf' into the root of that file system which contains the single line '/ union'. Works great.
Any chance you'll make a new video soon? I've flashed Kali onto the USB fine, but when I reboot the screen I am met with a grub menu, unsure how to install from there and I don't want to mess up my computer. Thank you!!

To all those facing issues for grub boot loader, use balenw etcher instead of rufus and your issue will be solved
I seriously love your videos David. Much love man ❤
Hey David, My USB 32 GB, 3.1. MBR UEFI . Stucked in GNU GRUB 2.06. Previous update was flawless. But this one stucked. I think new updated iso file is of 4.1 GB, that's why its not working with FAT32. Please look into this 🙏
same here
i just finished a download from rufus and im excited to try it in tje morning thank you soo much❤
Hello David,
Thanks for the video, it comes neatly at a great timing :)
You say around 2min that you set the persistent partition about half of the total size of the usb flashdrive.
What happens of the rest? Do you choose to use half because you intend on partitioning the other half to use as a normal storage?
Cheers!
the rest of the storage that is not in set on persistence will be available as normal partition in windows file explorer
Thank you David , so simple but very useful!!

GRUB ERROR: The devs have confirmed 2023.3 is broken with Rufus creating an ISO.
To fix this, use Kali's weekly release page to get an ISO (Ver. W38 or higher)
Best cyber related channel on YT. Thx David
@davidbombal I must be missing something. Followed all the directions though using the 2023.3 live iso. Used Rufus and set to 65 GB on my 128 GB USB drive for persistence. On first attempt, an message came up that additional files were required and it downlaoded (this message from Rufus) . Everything proceeded as expected. Set BIOS options as noted and PC boots up to GRUB> cli. type boot and receive "error you need to load the kernal first" Do what am I doing wrong? Note this is on a Kamui mini PC N5105 chip 16 gb RAM. Boot set to USB. Did manage to get it running on my HP Z Book , though it hit the grub cli first then managed to get boot option for Live USB.
same problem but after disabling TPM 2.0 and secure boot and made the iso for GPT instead of MBR an now i am getting error: out of memory. Note i have 64GBRAM Laptop
Das ist das Video das ich gesucht habe. Danke
I'm encased in the possession of the evil GNU Grab, all because I followed your instructions! With the sight of my disk, the LS command tantalize me, but the boot folder stays elusive. Alas! On this dreadful day, how did I come upon your UA-cam video?😰😰
What are you talking about?
Same here a gnu grub screen is shown what must be done next
As always useful video. Thank you so much David for the amazing tutorial.
You left out a whole bunch of steps to get persistency. Thanks a lot.I appreciate it after wasting several hours.Trying to figure out why I kept running out of space and nothing would save.Don't watch this video. There's way more to it than just this 6:36
What do you mean?u kept running out of space? Can elaborate
Files are not saving, after shifting from window to linux previous files are getting deleted

thank you so much david bombal
This man deserves an award. Hands down best it youtuber🙌🏻
It's also can run from a Ventoy formated USB stick drive!😉
Great video, thanks very much. You can use onetime bios to boot from usb instead of switching, its easier and safer (in case you forget to switch it back anyone can boot anything on it). Idk for uefi , i have bios and have that option. Carry on with great videos. Videos with OTW are great, big inspiration when learning became too much.
this is the best bios gui ever fr
Great info Mr. B, Thanks!
Thanks for sharing , very helpful and i always enjoy watching your youtube .

Hey David,

Sir David thank you very much, as always you are the top notch 💯
thanks bro for the video love you, following you from your 10th video
Hatts off for you

I pretty know how to make it but i do like watching people who knows what they are talking about and because of it's davidbombal himself 😂
That is so cool and what a nice tip! Thank!
Idk why I didn’t think of this but you may be a life saver going to try later.
very nice step by step tutoria thx :D
It worked just had some issue disabling media access control in windows before using Rufus but other than that it worked fine
Subbed for more!!!
A key thing was missed here.....This live image will not work out of the box on all hardware configurations....especially if you have one of the newer nvidia cards...the image for the live boot of Kali is not kept up to date as much as the other images which even the latest still doesn't work.
whilst nvidia tells you how to install the latest drivers no one seems to says (nvidia or kali support) what to do to get the latest drivers when the image just won't boot at all, not even to grub!
for those that want to know, you'll need a different machine with older hardware that you can boot the live image from and assuming you've set it up with persistance, download the drivers and install the drivers (all of them, it's a huge file and ignore the messages of hardware not found) and once installed you should then be able to go back to your machine with the new cards and it should boot...I had to do this with the 4070 cards.
simplest and best explaining
4real one of the best creator out there :)
Very useful! Thank you a lot!
Exactly what I wanted to try! Thanks boss?
Thanks for the tutorial very helpful
I do the same but after booting from pendrive Kali doesn't start instead grub starts and i'm stuck pls help me regarding this. I put the command boot it shows (load the kernel first)
Big fan sir .. this help me alot
Thank you. Your instructions were easier for me than the ones on the official page
To avoid problems like gnu grub opening during installation, use weekly build of kali usb live (W38 or higher) along with Rufus.
Any chance you'll make a new video soon? I've flashed Kali onto the USB fine, but when I reboot the screen I am met with a grub menu, unsure how to install from there and I don't want to mess up my computer. Thank you!!
Worked to a t so did the tails vids you rock bro
Hello sir Nice to have a teacher like you
Thank you!
Ventoy is pretty good with multiple flavours that can be persistent and the USB drive can still be used as storage 👍
please how many gigabytes of usd stick you recommend for ventoy multiple persistence ?
