I'm using your video to help a good friend to make a disk image of his system disk. I do appreciate you adding instructions for the various partition methods. Thanks for providing these instructions. They help tremendously.
I was just browsing the internet aimlessly, looking around for more info about Sonic Drive-In's POS system OS image, and came across this. I don't need any of this info, but just wanted like, subscribe, and tell you that this is an awesome tutorial, my guy. Great job!
Hi! I have been struggling with disk cloning for more than a week. I have tried my luck with Macrium Reflect but always ended up with errors. Thank you for sharing this AMAZING tutorial. Thanks to you, finally, I was able to clone my disk successfully! This is the best tutorial video on this subject. Every section is explained in detail and supported with valid information. Thank you a million times! -- By the way, for anyone experiencing Windows boot errors, I suggest removing the source disk after the cloning process. Trying to boot with both disks caused conflicts for me. Do the cloning, shutdown your computer, remove the original source disk, boot with the clone.
This was an excellent Tutorial , I have gone through atleast 10 videos before this but the image restoring was not happening . I really appreciate your help . Thanks a lot once again!!
If you are imaging a SSD with Windows and a lot of data and programs, there is a good chance that your image will be over 64GB and you'll need to save it to a bigger drive.
I find it awesome it is actually copying bit per bit, sector by sector so it is a 100% copy of the source operation system. Really the only thing it doesn't account for are bad sectors, so make sure you are using clonezilla on healthy storage drives.
@itstheweirdguy nope, from my experience it can not. I tried applying an saved image from a old HDD to a different one, which had couple of bad sectors... I got bunch of errors and it didn't work.
Excellent tutorial!! I used the option with large fonts because the first option was too small to read. I tried other image tools such as windows7 image backup etal but none worked. My dell inspiron laptop has 6 partitions! Many thanks again!!
When creating a folder to save the images in the destination drive, Clonezilla will not recognize the folder if it has a space in the folder name. For example, I created a folder named "clonezilla images" that Clonezilla did not recognize. Only later did I realize that the folder name either should have no spaces or use an underscore to represent a space in the folder name.
Im in a situation where i need to clone my 2tb hard drive formatted to mac format, to a windows 3tb formatted hd so i can then formatt my mac hard drive back to windows then do the same in reverse so my drive will work in windows pc without paragon will clone zilla work in my circumstance ? Can anyone help ?
thank you, the tutorial is just very helpful, I would like to deploy a reference image of win11 on 20 computers for an entreprise , should i excute SYSPREP before capturing the reference image ?
⚠️ Tip from my experiences just now: The drive I wanted to clone would not appear. You might have to make your SATA mode AHCI instead of RAID in your bios settings. It then showed up to be cloned
I have a question, after making clone of windows on flashdisk, if i format the windows hardisk and install linux on the hardisk, can i restore windows back? (With linux still on the hardisk)
@@marcc5768 I'm using an ssd and tried to clone my local disk C which has the os to another partition named local disk D. But clonezilla won't let me. It does the cloning process to 100% then gives me this error message "clonezilla failed to save partition dev sda2"
@@acid1787 I'm exactly with the same task and problem. Clonezilla saves to the resulting folder the smaller partitions which amount to about 900 MB of data, but when it comes to saving the large one with all the data it gives me the same error. I did it several times, I even made sure that there's enough space on the destination partition to write the system partition whole (data and free space). Still I get the same error. There are so many variables thou. My disk is nvme NTFS split to 2 partitions. I use clonezilla from Ventoy, not from standalone USB, I use it for asus notebook with their RAID storage thingy, that some imaging solutions require drivers to detect, clonezilla detected it fine. I tried to boot with secure boot and without it. I tried using clonezilla in "normal mode" and in "Grub2 mode" (this option didn't appear in this video). The same outcome.
I think it was just to show that it reformats the drive back to your original settings. Like, he took it back to 10 just to show that it made it to 11 upon restore
You wouldn't need to if you are reinstalling windows to the same PC the image is captured from. Also if you are signing into a microsoft account with a Windows license attached to it, you wouldn't need to activate again.
I used clonezilla once to migrate win11 os boot ssd from 512 GB to 2TB. OK, I was able to copy win11 over and it worked; but I could not do WINDOWS UPDATE. I assume Microsoft win11 can detect if it was cloned and will block windows 11 updates. I wonder if anyone got it to work or some trick. So for now I think it is better to do a fresh win11 install on a new ssd.
This has nothing to do with the cloning process. But with the HWID I would assume. Your windows was most likely also unactivated after the cloning process, simply reactivating should be sufficient. Or the update process was already broken in the first place.
Be careful, you can lost some Windows services. I lost Device Association Service and now my bluetooth doesn`t work. Still looking for the solve without reinstalling whole system, sfc and dism didn't help. If someone know a solution, pls help
Very thorough, high quality tutorial. I rate it 10/10, this is a prime example of how tutorials should be. Thank you!
Right, Here's a clear and straightforward explanation.
Nice calming voice makes it less likely that I will shotput the computer out a window. 💙💙💙
Excellent tutorial. Much better than most other tutorials that require an external USB M2 adapter to clone an SSD to s higher a capacity one.
Thanks!

The first tutorial that was direct to the point and explained the simplest way to achieve the results. THANK U
Excellent tutorial easy to follow, I used this video as a step by step and it worked flawlessly

Same thing. This is the best on backup. I use it on Linux. You went through 10 videos. I went through 10 million. Most S$$$. This is spot on.
Perfect tutorial on how to backup Windows with Clonezilla.
Thank You!!!
Agreed, I give this a 10/10 - Excellent job!
That was most excellent, my man....
Thank you so much for this information and easy to follow guide.
Return of the king
perfect tutorial for me since I was upgrading my girlfriend's laptop from 256gb to 2tb and it only had one ssd slot
Great video. I've used Clonezilla to clone various linux drives but never partitions which would be handy restoring to a smaller SSD. Thanks!
Thank you for these simple and clear tutorial!..this is helpful for the beginner like me!
Nice tutorial 👍 Easy to understand
Best tutorial ever. Thank you.👍
Great video. Well explained. Thank you
Great tutorial, THX! Can I also recover the image on a completely different Windows machine? What are the pitfalls?
Perfect tutorial and very thorough explanation of everything. Thanks!
Got to 9:22 to start imaging and it failed. Something about not enough space. I'm using a 64 GB USB. I don't understand.

Clonezilla can deal with bad sectors. Maybe you should read the manual for something before you post on the internet about what something cannot do.
@itstheweirdguy nope, from my experience it can not. I tried applying an saved image from a old HDD to a different one, which had couple of bad sectors... I got bunch of errors and it didn't work.

Excellent tutorial, Can you please advise whether this copy all application registration with their key.
Clonzilla is free and open source
I bet clonezilla copy keys too.
Hello. Yes, it does. The restored image is an identical copy of your system, so the programs, data and settings remains intact. Sorry for my english.
Does it save if only one disk or all the disks?
Very good and informative tutorial. I highly recommend 👍
How do you skip a drive. I have a 4 TB drive G. How do i get CZilla to skip that drive so the iso is not too big for restore

I have a question. Is there any way possible to make the copied image bootable directly from the hard drive without using clonezilla again?
It's possible to use clonezilla to directly copy one drive to another.
can i clone my operativesystem and the boot even if i have other partitions that i dont want in the backup?
yes

Is there a way you can mount the Clonezilla image if, say, you need to get a couple of files off of the image?

Hey I can't get rufus to put the iso onto the external usb drive. It keeps failing with an undetermined error. Any suggestions?
Are you using .iso file ? Try ventoy into usb. Can search tutorial of it.
Rufus does not work with external USB drives. Ventoy does.
how to record the screen while using Clonezilla ?
Why doesn't the storage space update, it still says 500GB even though I swapped it with one of 1 TB
Partition
Great video, well done
Wonder if this wud wrk for romsets.
What if I want to save the image to my hard drive? What do I do then?.
you must have a source and destination. you can not save back to the drive/partion you are trying image/clone
@@marcc5768 not even in a different partition? In the same hard drive?

Does it work on encrypted drive ?

does Windows need to be reactivated after restoring the image?

how do you screen record?
how does it stay screen recording in boot setup mode?
@sam-by6go I use a USB capture card to record my screen.

I believe it can. Clonezilla does support APFS.

Clonezilla fails too easily especially with semi-bad disks and when resize is needed.
Thanks

2 things would have been helpful. 1) Say that it takes a long time to download clonezilla. 2) explain how you get rufus for linux
Very nicely done video. It's appreciated. Thanks.
