Note: I covered a short vertical slice demo of UNHOLY a while ago, but the full game has just been released and I was really impressed with it. The game alternates between 2 different locations with different visual styles and play styles. The brutalist post-Soviet apartment block focuses on surreal psychological horror and the Unholy City focuses on Stealth and Survival Horror.
Id be more into this game if it didn't just copy other games parts. 1. Parent looking for child. Heavy Rain, Silent hill, Resident evil, Evil within. 2. Cultic group of fanatics. Bioshock 2, Evil within, Silent hill. 3. Hellscape ruined world. Silent hill, Metro 2033, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Doom, Darksouls, Bloodborne, Gears of war. Sure it has a little original spin on it but it just falls into the generic grimdark world that everyone is doing these days. Scorn at least tried an original sort of take. This just feels like someone just wanted to make a new take on Silent hill, but without the monsters. I wanted to like it, but it's just been done better in other games. And honestly, there are better ways to communicate despair and stagnation other than just making dilapidated slums. I can forgive a lot, but the copy paste "Its a ruined city" every game uses shows they don't really have any kind of originality or art direction to offer.

It's really strange. During the whole video, I kept thinking - "ok, this needed more polish" and "well, that's not a major studio, what can you expect". Yet somehow all elements blend together and work surprisingly well. Maybe this game was _not_ rushed, or maybe developers simply knew what they were doing and cared about their creation, but... It's good! Also - soundtrack is great, especially during final segments of the game.
With stories that revolve around fanatical cults, usually the second thing you learn is that they ostracize, if not kill, sinners. It's refreshing to see a more forgiving and superficially benevolent one. Makes it more believeable.

The Soviet feel is kinda lost on me tbh. This game is an admirable effort, graphically it's impressive, I really liked the simulated fabrics and the attention to detail in every room, but it feels like it can't stick to a coherent style. The Soviet-era buildings only appear so often, and they are the scariest part. The rest of the game is not that scary, it's less horror and more just tension and stealth. Also the story pacing feels weird, like it's skipping whole chunks. Nice game though, thanks for your walkthrough as always. I love your puns at the end!
I only skimmed through this because I wanted to play this, but the game looks amazing AND has all the feels of a good Amnesia/Half Life mod game, and looks amazing.

Ahh i forgot I watched this as a demo gameplay before and remember saying ”I was looking forward to the full game version” Now i can enjoy CONTINUING with no nostalgic cliffhangers😆
I liked the graphics and the art but the story is very bland and the characters aren't likable. The cuts between cinematic and gameplay in the Eternity City is very bad. The phasing with that final boss battle is one of the worst thing that i have seen in a while, i hate the trope when both the villain and hero suddenly become inept to stretch the duration of the media(movie,videogame, etc).
This intro has extremely heavy Amnesia vibes, but the plot is nonsensical and disjointed to the point that I can't handle viewing more than 7 minutes of this before my brain ejected out of my cranium and traveled to a parallel dimension. The game should have started @ 1:53 and completely skipped the intro - maybe bring it back from some exposition, but for me, it only served to confuse. So there was a prophecy in this 312-year-old church that someone would usher in a new world, and that "fortunately" (not prophesized?), some random dude showed up and showed them the way to...immortality? An emo world? Creationism? I have no idea. It starts out as a pitch for utopia but ends in an insane rant about shaping worlds with emotions, thanks to random Prophet Man who wasn't prophesized to come, except he totally did. Oh, and there's Holy Fire that does things, and if you truly believe, Holy Fire can do ANYTHING. The game starts by being trapped in a room, with a narrator that says, "faithful shall not leave their cells at the hour of prayer," so of course we leave our room, because we have no idea why we're here in the first place. 3:06 I really despise anyone that posts subtitles that don't match exactly what is spoken. After all, people aren't supposed to leave the building complex before THE 4pm. This is THE official announcement of blah blah blah. It's really nice that this PSA pops on when we reach the main atrium, especially since the primary thoughts that we should be having is - where are all the receptionists? Maybe they're praying in their rooms, or maybe it's after the 4pm? Did we get locked in our prayer room for praying so long that everyone already went home from work? Mixed messages. 3:27 So glad that everyone got the memo. "By the order of the Prophet, all that would disrupt the 'Ascension' are to be caught and interrogated." There's only one thing left to do in this room, which is to disrupt the Ascension, so clearly this is foreshadowing, right? Not to mention, there are strict rules and money spent on the most frivolous of hallway flags, so surely there are security guards to prevent random housewives from entering and disrupting something as all-important as the "Ascension," right? 4:10 Oh, I guess anyone and their mom can just waltz into the all-important room that doesn't even have the common decency to have a locked door. 4:18 Random woman opens the big, heavy door and appears on the other side of a 30ft-long hallway in full view of the dozen men and women standing by the altar; no one cares in the least when she walks all the way up to the altar, bitching and whining and touching things that don't belong to her, telling her son that she will somehow remember how to use her arms to pick him up from the glow-y blanket that shields him with will-o-wisps. The priest is all, "Oh, hey, go ahead and interrupt us. It's not like I'm doing anything important," then some random practitioner is all, "Zer muh gerd, there's an interloper interrupting our shenanigans! Stop her before she does the thing she already did!" Holy fire apparently does what it wants and kills all the random cultists off-screen. Big Bad reveals his Scooby Doo plot, smoke arises, and we will never speak of this event again...even while the church burns and Obi-Won appears. 5:36 WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF, what is this random Star Wars moment while Gabriel (and a random assortment of cultists) is apparently burning to death 10ft away, smoke is so thick that this woman should've blacked out by now, if not have her woolen sweater/skirt on fire from all those embers scattering about, and Darth Vader is apparently already gone? Or something? Why is it suddenly safe to have a chat with an old woman inside a burning church, and why is "Who are you" the first question out of this woman's mouth while Gabriel's burning corpse is...like...10ft away? So the old woman is all, "...your son is alive. His body may be lost, but his soul still lingers..." Wait. Wait, wait, wait, wait. Which religion believes that the soul has a life cycle, same as the body? When we leave our physical, corporeal bodies behind, doesn't that technically mean we're dead, and that our "eternal" souls are free to wander? How is someone "alive" without a physical body? Woman is bringing up some MAJOR existential questions, in the middle of a burning church, where we, as human beings, understand object permanence, and that there were no visual or audio symbols that signified the Prophet, Gabriel, or any of the cultists have left the building - they should all still be behind the smoke, listening to everything that's happening (or they should be dead from smoke inhalation). Then she's all, "I will train you, right frickin' NOW! Come with me..." with a blazing fire literally right behind her. I guess she's offering double burning suicide? One month later....never mind how they got out of the burning church, or any of that stupid interrogation nonsense for disrupting Ascensions. Pretty much all of this screams ChatGPT/AI-controlled dialogue. That, or "cocaine is a helluva drug."

You are able to kill enemies, but one good example is around 1:30:00 you let the infect guy just wander around, taking aim at him but instead laying down distractions or something... And because of it, you couldn't pull the lever saving the guy locked in the room.

An hour into the video and not seeing any survival horror. Reminds me of Thief or Dishonored. I didn't bother trying to read any of the letters you found. They need to have a text overlay of them to make them easier to read. It may be fine if you're sitting at your pc but not so much for someone sitting on a couch several feet from a TV,
It was 55 minutes in, which isn't even 1/3 of the game, let alone half. The letters before that had massive lettering so you could still read them unless you were blind or low vision.

those letters all had overlays the idiot just didnt click to activate them for about half the game.
It was 55 minutes in, which isn't even 1/3 of the game, let alone half. The letters before that had massive lettering so you could still read them unless you were blind or low vision.
