Thanks David the Oich forms part of the Ness system. It can have a good spring run starting as early as February. Lovely clear fly water but need to factor in that it is Hydro controlled so can fluctuate a fair bit at times.

Wonderful cinematography. I'm a Yank from N.E. Washington state. Just got my first spey rod. Both of my great grandmother's were from Scotland. Anne Mctavish and Anne Buchanan both highlanders. I was in Scotland in 2008 and I can't wait to come back and roam my ancestral land. I love fishing and I'm now retired. One year would be enough time for me to explore and fish and learn about my scottish culture. Fly fishing has been apart of my life since I was 12 years old. Living in the western United States I've had the pleasure of fishing Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Oregon and Washington. I went to Alaska in 1984 and caught salmon and grayling on the flyrod. It would be the utmost honor for me to learn from the Scottish locals the customs of fishing and releasing your magnificent salmon. Do you have steelhead trout? They are sea run rainbow trout that grow to 30 lbs. The average steelhead is around 14 lbs. They are magnificent fighters especially the summer run, acrobatic jumpers they are. My timeline for coming your way would be 2024. I have no idea where a good starting point would be for my adventure so any advice would surely be welcome. I'm also an avid archery and rifle big game hunter. Would love to take a red stag with my yew wood bow that I built years ago.

Hi John good to hear from you my mother was a Mctavish as well. Sounds like you have great experience and gained great enjoyment from fly fishing. In the Highlands there are many great salmon rivers and many good trout lochs. So the species we have is Salmon, seatrout and brown trout only wish we had the steelhead as well though. Plenty of options to take a stag but its not something i do so cant really advise. I would say best bet is to base yourself from Inverness and there are many fishing options available to you as well as plenty of great scenery. Oh an of course there is the Loch Ness monster also close by :)

It's not about the fish you catch, but the places you catch them in, some beautiful footage I hope you enjoyed every minute! Awesome!!

Thanks John ! Well the Nairn had the worst year i can remember in terms of fish in the system. I would say club catches were down by 50%. Normally the Nairn is reliable so hope for better luck next year 👍
