Seeing him get the spent case out with a knife like that reminds me of the re-enactments I've seen of The Battle of The Little Bighorn, where they show the soldiers having to pry out stuck cases from their single-shot Springfield 1873 carbines.
Thanks so much for this Video Larry! This is the exact problem i have with my rimfire and i was at a loss how to fix it if at all! Thanks very much!!! Keep up the great work!
I think you might have just told me what is wrong with my .22 You stated the exact same symptoms Although mine was my first gun, it’s maybe 10 years old but has had tons of rounds put through it I’m not a gunsmith yet but I want to be, i restored an old ortgies 7.65 for my senior project in High school and passed with flying colors Next thing I’m working on restoring is a gewehr 41 that I just bought, but now that I have watched this I’m going to attempt to fix my .22
Just bought a Hopkins and Allen Repeating Bolt Rifle in .22 and I'm having this issue. It shoots great but fails to extract 90% of the time. I'll have to take it to a shop and get it fixed.
This technique just might work to resolve extraction issues on my old Stevens Favorite mode 1894. The spent shells are sticking about half the time. Where can I purchase a barrel swage for the .22 RF?
personally, i don't like using "specialty" ammo, bulk federal hollow points work amazing for me... it might be becuase the lead ball tends to be a little larger than most
Hopefully Larry Potterfield will see this the swaging tool has been discontinued from Midway USA ,this tool should be placed back in stock or an alternative tool found, this video taken down due to the in availability of this tool
I've never seen a rolling block rifle in .22, that's incredible. What a nice rifle.
He is so cheerful, it just makes ya happy to watch and learn.
He has a different demeanor in person. This is just his camera personality. Watch his collaborations with Jack Rowe on side-by-side shotguns.

Wow i have the same exact model. Cant wait to fix mine up
I'm learing a great deal from your videos Larry. Thank you. You've got a life customer.

Did it work? was there enough room to use the tool or did you have to disassemble it?
There's a seller on ebay that has a bunch of these original tools for sale NOS.. I just bought one...
Awesome
This tool is near impossible to find.

I only wish I had such a place to shoot.

where can i buy that chamber ironing tool, its not available in India
And not a single dislike was given that day
nice ejector...
He's the wizard of gunsmithing. He's Harry Potterfield.
what kind of gun is that? is there a company making them or something like them now?
can the same problem cause the gun to fail to fire on first hit but the round fires on second hit?
Would this work for a rimfire revolver as well?
You might have to take the cylinder out & secure it in a vise somehow to do it, but I don't see any other reason that it couldn't be done.
I need that peep sight
that might be my problem but i don't think so my bolt wont close all the way
"The Yellow Rose Of Texas"
nice old .22! what model is it?
Anyway to do this with a 17wsm? Anyone know of a tool for it
It's easy if you get the right tool.
thats what i need :D
0:40 the front of tool has a round diameter 0:51 its threaded ??? does it have a pilot that goes over it
0:40 the thread is out of focus. Its so you can connect it to a rod and pull it through if you cannot get easy access to the back of the barrel.
@@Uneek_Username Yeah was wondering how it worked but I found one on eBay a few month ago I have a Marlin 1897 22lr that has this problem

The manufacturer was a small shop owner that has since retired. Its more than likely his product lines will not return.
Midway discontinued this item
