    Very good price in Oz at the moment at $3.8k aud. Tyres, pads, 30T front ring with guard and a bottle cage..sorted. At 180cms, large is the right size.

      Lol, after living in the UK for 20 years and traveling alot you get to pick up the accents. I think I would need a few years for North Scotland and deep south USA though...

    Hi Guy, thoughts on 29 Polygon N9 vs Marin Alpine Trail.... Which has the better rear suspension feel? The spec on the Polygon is unreal for the price.

    Solid reveiw........ Love this bike! Very agile and and easy to flick around but also stable with the 29" wheels, Not a huge fan of the brakes was my only quibble ......

      Mtb Trail Hub what pads have you got in your Slates? They get significantly better with aftermarket pads. Still not amazing but definitely better.

      Mtb Trail Hub thanks btw, totally agree what you say about the agility/stability mix

      Guy Kesteven Just the standard pads.... I didn’t have an issue with the bite but more found them to be a bit inconsistent..... needed a bit of adjusting

      @@MtbTrailHub I had that on a set on test a while back and then after a few months I realised that they'd settled down fine. Other sets have been fine though. Not that that really helps you. Sorry 🤦🏼‍♂️ I did find aftermarket pads improved bite noticeably though. The bike I reviewed had yellow backed TRP pads but RWD and EBC do them too. Pads for Saint brakes will fit as well.

      Guy Kesteven Thanks for the heads up 👍 I only had the bike on loan for a week so must just take a little longer to bed in than other brakes 👍

    How would you compare this to the Whyte s-150 for aggressive trail riding in the Southwest US (rocky and dry)?

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  5 років тому

      Hi Andrew, I'm not sure what the pricing is like over in the US but going off UK pricing the Whyte S150 C RS is £200 more but you get a carbon front end which among other things saves you a couple of pounds in weight. You also get Maxxis tyres and SRAM Code R brakes which are excellent compared to the Vee and TRP on the Marin. It's also pedals more positively if you're putting the miles/climbs in. The Marin has a stiffer steering/braking fork (36 V Pike) and the rear end is super plush if you're more into your DH grip and general comfort. Geometry is very similar apart from the L is longer in the Whyte but the XL is similar so it's really down to parts and weight and whether you can stretch the extra cash to the Whyte. The S-150S V2 is £1000 cheaper with an alloy frame but still slightly lighter than the Marin and you still get Maxxis tyres, plus new Shimano SLX which is ace. Again it's more all rounder than gravity focused in overall character though. Hope that helps.

      @@GuyKesTV Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for. I'm currently on a Marin Rift Zone 3 (and a Chromag rootdown), but looking for a little more travel. I've liked the Rift Zone, but it sounds like the Whyte may be more what I'm looking for. I like the spec on the 2020 alloy S-150 too. Any other similar bikes you'd recommend?

      @@aflax222 Yeah the spec on the alloy is really strong for this year. It previously had a Revelation fork and that was a real weak link. SLX 12 speed is an awesome group too, I'm just installing it on my Whyte S-120 and really impressed so far.

    7:45 I mean WHERE ELSE can anyone get a details like this? Other reviewers: pretty moving picture shots, multiple angle riding shots, camera men, music. Guy: TO THE FUCKING POINT, value knowledge instead of brochure reading.
    BTW 2020 range of Marin Rift Zone 1,2,3 and C1 and also Hawk Hill, also most 2017 and 2018 models, all using the same wheels on the same horrible 16ish POE rear hub. I mean lots of manufaturers does that or ballpark there, but more and more often stock, branded hubs have over 30 POE and this should really be the hidden value of stock wheels- heavy, but with decent hub that is not hampering the rider that doesn't wanna upgrade. I hope they sticked to the wheels for so long cause of durability.
