Love it! This series has been great. I’m a big Marin fan so this is a goal one day. I’ve got a B17 which I’m slowly upgrading, changed the suspension setup to a fox 36 performance elite front and matching rear shock. It’s got similar tyres to the alpine trail but I’m not convinced, I’ll be swapping them for some minions soon!
Cheers Christian! glad you've enjoyed it, There will be more series coming early next year so watch this space! You can't beat a good set of Fox suspension although rockshox have closed the gap recently in my opinion. Don't blame you with the minions.......hard to beat
i know Im asking the wrong place but does any of you know a way to get back into an instagram account? I stupidly lost the login password. I appreciate any help you can offer me
@Michael Brysen I really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Like the idea of bike reviews, would like to see more detailed breakdown of the spec. Perhaps play it up against other bikes in the similar price bracket and category. Keep it up lad!
Honestly, this review has been super useful, highly debating about purchasing this Alpine Trail 8 for the last month. How do you find the Fox 36 performance? What damper does it have? Well worth the money I assume with all the components. I am expecting to make a couple upgrades though.
Great to hear it! I think it depends on how often and where you will riding? If i was riding big features all the time then i'd probably spec up the forks but as an overall i loved them. Super plush and can take a hit. My favourite parts of this bike is the geo and suspension. A cheeky upgrade on the tyres and brakes and you've got yourself a Bike park and Race ready slayer! haha
Awesome Carl, Yes they are great bikes! I personally love the Michelin enduro tyres, great performance and last quite well. Maxxis minions are great too, Be sure to go for the dual ply if riding out in the hills. Much better side wall protection which avoids flats.
Question: I just got mine mailed to me, so far it's great, but I noticed the front sprocket/gear it's rubbing a little bit on the shifter cable, do you know by any chance if I can add a shim or shift the crank a little bit to the right?
Awesome! Mechanics isn't my field i'm afraid but i would be looking to move the shifter cable rather than spacing the crank. I'd give the supplier a call first. Good luck with it.
Love the review! Not really an important feature ,but how loud/quiet was the freehub compared to other hubs you’ve ridden? Also, is there any good place to strap on a tube/tire levers/C02/multi tool on the frame while still using a bottle cage? Lastly, how did you like tires? Did you like the width or do you think narrower would be better? Thanks!
Cheers Krabby, Glad it helped. The free hub was pretty standard and neither loud nor quiet. As for the tyres, the width was good but i think they didn't offer to much grab. The tyres are absolutely fine for casual riding but if i was going to start racing this bike then i'd probably chuck a Super Tacky/ Soft compound on the front to help with that. As for the space to strap on tubes and Co2 etc.....There is space under the top tube just in-front of the top of the bottle. Hope this helps, Enjoy your new steed!!!
Hi Guy, thoughts on 29 Polygon N9 vs Marin Alpine Trail.... Which has the better rear suspension feel? The spec on the Polygon is unreal for the price.
I have a Polygon Siskiu T8. Mainly riding technical trails single tracks and some xc. Not much big jumps. What would be the best bike for that from the Marin line up? Feel like the Alpine trail8 is too "Enduro" I want to be able to ride up well as well but doing some bigger drops too.
Hi, It depends what kind of technical trail you mean as the Alpine trail is good for that style and does pedal well for a biggish bike. Sounds like you're after a bike thats got a bit less travel and Marin do the Hawk Hill or the new RiftZone which are 130mm travel bikes. I've personally not ridden them but they do look amazing.... www.marinbikes.com/gb/bikes/20-rift-zone-carbon-2
Great review Jamie . Try and review some more bikes mate as you come across as very professional . Colin's Corners is awesome but to be honest I found it pretty reasonable on my Orange Stage 6 ... Do a review on one of those !
daveandmerlin Thanks mate👍. Yeah I may do, in all honesty I don’t particularly enjoy it that much. Might do a few.... I’m riding the new whyte ebike soon and the Marin Mount Vision...... so watch this space 😜!
Yeah possibly, If you prefer a more stable feel(less manoeuvrable) then the large would be better. The medium was bang on for me personally. I did ride a Mount Vision Large during my Ride Southern Spain trip in January. I got on with it well on rough long choppy enduro descents. It took a few days to get used to a bigger bike but i was loving it overall. For reference the reach on the Mount vision large is 472mm and the Large Alpine trail is 465mm. I'd say sizing up to a large if you're 5'8 would be fine but medium would be better as you'd be able to through it around easier.
In all honesty, its a big bike to be doing cross country rides on. It does pedal well considering how capable it rides in bike parks and DH tracks. the rear shock has little to no trail bob whilst peddling. In terms of buying the 8 over the 7.......... I can't comment as i haven't ridden the 7 but you are effectively spending an extra £900 to upgrade the components. The bigger question is can you afford it? If it's within your budget then i'd say yes.
Luca Di Pietrantonio Hey Luca, It’s tough to call as you could ride the Medium or the Large. I’m 5 8’ and the medium was a good fit. It depends if you want a more manoeuvrable feel or a more stable feel??? Maybe check the reach of the bike you ride now and compare it to the Marin and see how it sizes up.....??? Hope that helps
Hi I'm 16 and 6ft 5 so it's harder for me to go up a size when I'm already xl and that feels small so i can't go higher but it's even harder for jumps aswell so what would i do do u know 🤗
Sorry my friend. Being short i have never had these issues. So i have no answers???? You could start by looking at the geometries for bikes and find some with the tallest stand over measurement and furthest reach??? Maybe try some demo days to. Good luck
No afraid not Villi, At 5 8' I think a large would have been pretty good also. Depends if you like your bike to be planted and stable or more flickable and better turning?????? The reach on this bike isn't massive which made it feel like a 'small medium' in my opinion. Hope that helps
@@MtbTrailHub I'm about 182cm but have shorter legs and don't think I want too long of a bike I'd say a large should be good? Their size chart days up to 188cm
No not at all, It feels light. Of course you could go lighter but then we are talking ££££s more for carbon. Somebody said to me a while back about all these roadies cycling around on fancy carbon bikes with a big ole gut! haha You'd be better off loosing the weight from your body first and save yourself 5k ! haha
You a right, for me it’s still unknown what make bikes so expensive compare to the car for example. 4 wheel, 4 suspensions ,seats and must expensive engine. I think we riders make this sport expensive. Everybody want something better ,lighter, faster and at least top of the market. Until we don’t stap buying all this extremely expensive stuff price will growing up every month. 😬
Really awesome review!
This video convinced me to get this bike!
Awesome Kyle! So pleased it helped you out. If you could email Marin and tell them, that would be great! haha just kidding....... Enjoy

Hey no idea if you'll see this but do you have any cons about the bike than the brake performance?
Hey Axel, Yeah that's pretty much it. It's a sweet bike. Somebody mentioned in the comments that a decent pair of brake pads sharpens them up a treat.

cakerapujangga Yeah I’m 5’8 and medium was a great fit. If you’re any taller I’d probably go up to the large......
Have you ridden a Whyte S-150? If so how would these compare?
