I would agree that an 8 is an acceptable score since they have better songs (but this was a good entry level song) and you need to leave room for those. I would recommend “How to disappear completely”, or “Pyramid song” to really have your mind blown.
Just my opinion. If you're going to check out more Radiohead I'd stick to this album and the ones that come before. Starting with Kid A and each album to follow they just kept getting more abstract, more experimental and weird. I gave up on them when they released 'Hail To the Thief'.
Welcome to Radiohead! Man are you in for a treat! I’m envious of you, I wish I could listen to them for the first time again! Fantastic reaction brother!
If you don't already know it, one of Radiohead's best composed songs is How to dissappear completely from Kid A. Your expert would love it too. Awesome review. Very insightful and fair.
@@TheMusicKingdom How To Disappear Completely is nowhere near one of Radioheads best songs. Avoid anything from Kid A it's a very disappointing record in comparison to their work before it.
I understand the score for Thom's vocal. But if there was a deck of 'Vocalist Top Trumps' playing cards, I think I'd want him in it, because if vocal range or emotion were categories, it'd be a card worth having. Some vocalists have a few songs where the vocals ooze emotion, but Thom seems to have it turned all the way up all the time.
Please check out "How To Disappear Completely" by Radiohead. I think I read somewhere that Thom Yorke himself considers it their greatest piece. It's definitely a 10 in my book.

Totally fair review. I love Radiohead and think this is a superb song. I understand you putting a lower score for vocals and you are correct that people don't listen to Radiohead for Whitney Houston-type vocals. I haven't looked at your other reviews but I am interested in how you rate vocals in general. Because you can have technically great vocals that lack that human touch or emotion. I'm thinking Bublé... (For me, anyway. Autotune kills the feeling). Similarly, sometimes a slightly off sounding voice actually carries the feeling of the song more. I would argue that a beautiful vocal pitch in this song would take away the angsty, uncomfortable, paranoid feeling this song sets out for. So I think the vocals do match the song well whilst still recognising that technically they are not beautifully melodic as stand alone vocals. I'd be interested in seeing your review of Nude by Radiohead. I think that review might answer this question for me. Please do that one when you get a chance :)
Wow - seriously - wow - your setup is phenomenal - well done man! Radiohead and OK Computer became both my favorite album and band the first time I heard this album, and 26 years later of constant music exploration, yet still nothing has changed those two facts. From this album, check out "Exit Music: from a film" - plenty of choices. Great effort and it is appreciated. They change their style every album, this is their Masterpiece, the next album "Kid A" is their most pure raw experimental creation, and "In Rainbows" is their most perfectly crafter sonic gloriously amazing album. The other 6 are killer as well. Thanks a lot for the vid!
There’s more to Radiohead than the three obvious songs. If you want to hear more you should take a look at their In The Basement stuff with a great song being Weird Fishes. Enjoy the journey mate
It seems like Radiohead will be a good fit for you both - perhaps a better shared joy than Tool was with Lateralus (overthinking, overanalyzing, separates the body from the mind!) Glad y'all enjoyed! This album is my pick, hands-down, for Best Album of the 90's. Their previous two were good and lets you see their metamorphosis into , imo, their zenith. They were ahead of their time with this one. One of the best concept albums ever made. About Thom Yorke's voice: Thom is Radiohead and Radiohead is Thom; while not the greatest voice in music, he does have an unique voice however, it conveys an amazing amount of emotion and makes you feel it with him. In that regard, he is as good as any other singer I love. They caught lightning in a bottle with this album and it made you feel exactly how they feel; the album sucked you in and it either validated your existing feelings or made you change yours to fit theirs. It was a perfect blend of Rock and Electronic music with a subject matter that was at times, dark and meloncholic, yet also hopeful and at times euphoric. The present technosociety seems to have caught up to the where the band was and how it felt back in the late 90's. I wish I could go back in time and hear this album again for the very first time- it's magical. Never knew it had Library of Congress status- thanks for including that, it deserves it. Be sure to check out Let Down, Karma Police as well as the rest of the album.
Welcome to the greatness of Radiohead! World's greatest band in my opinion. Oh, how I look forward to watching the rest of your journey. And you will find joy in this songs for decades. I have listened to Paranoid Android since 1997 and still find new details. Radiohead have mastered every genre and invented a few. This is great. Hehe. Thom Yorke's voice is angelic, just you wait.
Radiohead is an EPIC band with a vast catalogue. "Let Down" ' My iron Lung" " There There" "Karma Police" "Reckoner" "Lotus Flower".. that's a good start!! Also enjoy many genres but usually say my faves are Zepp and RHead..
Try out anything from their two "from the basement" studio recordings. The craftsmanship on those videos is amazing, and I love all their stuff from the recordings.
Nice video ! subbed. IMO Paranoid Android is the greatest song recorded since the 70s of Floyd, Bowie, Led Zep, Queen etc, etc As far as influence goes, in the very near future when the band decide to call it a day they will be listed with The Beatles and Pink Floyd, they are going to be the holy trinity... Personally I would love to see you both react to The National Anthem, How to Dissappear Completely and Spectre, all 3 are very different from each other but its amazing that the same band did them and all 3 are very different to Paranoid Android.
OK Computer was the culmination of a lot of Radiohead's experiments as they found their voice as a band. All of the work done prior to this album is great in my opinion, but OKC and In Rainbows are the two albums I think show their voice most beautifully.
Good to see you get the Radiohead smile - you know where we hear a song and get a good surprise from it and smile like a seven year old getting a gift 😁
I would love to hear your opinion on "The Numbers" which is one of their more recent songs. It has a great production and atmosphere. Radiohead are brilliant musicians!
So I know you're going to get flooded with recommendations because Radiohead's catalogue is genuinely that good, but I'd like to throw in a good word for Reckoner from In Rainbows. Absolutely gorgeous combination of orchestral arrangements, percussion, and soaring vocals with immaculate production. Yorke's voice always works best at the upper end of his register and sounds angelic in that one, but honestly you really can't go wrong with them. For just a bit of context, the overwhelming success of OK Computer haunted Thom Yorke and the band so much that they went in completely the opposite direction on their follow-up albums (Kid A/Amnesiac) opting in for experimental electronic arrangements, New Orleans jazz, orchestral supplements and ambient soundscapes. They've been reinventing themselves on each album ever since while remaining uniquely themselves. If you're into avant-garde stuff with crisp production they have tons to offer. Great reaction/review guys! Instant sub
Excellent analysis. Honestly, this album and then ‘In Rainbows’ should be full album reviews. In modern day terms, they are master class level. Also, as you said Thom Yorke is a genius and the band as a whole is incredible, but Johnny Greenwood (guitarist, keyboardist, composer, etc) is imho the bands secret sauce. Johnny composed many movie scores including: There Will Be Blood and Phantom Thread among many others.
Really lovely review. Since you want factoids, here's one on vocals that might contextualize your controversial vocal score: Thom Yorke changed his perspective on vocalization with this record. He stopped trying to have "pretty" vocals or to stay withing the center of the note. With OK, Computer he began to think of his voice as simply another instrument. This translated to more dissonance, more note-bending, more focus on emoting and connecting. So, Thom is not always pristine or acrobatic or flashy, vocally. But he is almost always visceral and transportive and is delivering raw, challenging lyrical content to boot. Anecdote (not data): In all of the reaction videos I've ever watched (thousands), almost every instance where I have seen people brought to tears, it's been Radiohead, and that's because it's connecting with people on a level that transcends virtuosity.
I heard that when they debuted this album at a live show in NYC, there were a bunch of celebrity actors and musicians there and the general consensus was something like, "Well, this is the future. It's here. So now wtf do we do??" I'd highly recommend listening to The King of Limbs Live from the Basement. The studio album upset some fans for being disjointed and rather short, but the live recordings more than make up for it on both counts. Particularly Daily Mail, which isn't even on the album. Watch that live video
Great reaction. Found this by accident and decided to subscribe, I can't wait to see your musical journey. Keep up the great production and reactions dude.
as a radiohead fan going on 25 years now, i am always so happy to hear people discovering their music. every album has so much to offer, it's hard for me to pick a favorite.
I was in high school when this came out and shortly thereafter I had college friends who loved Radiohead. Back then I liked heavier stuff and to be honest I just didn't like or get Radiohead other than Creep. Now I love Radiohead and the only song I don't want to hear again is Creep (not that it's bad, just prefer other songs by them). Good review! I watched/commented on Lateralus earlier. I like the format, and your bro deserves much respect for the breakdowns as well. Good job guys!
I read that they recorded the album in a notorious haunted house. For this track, Thom Yorke recorded the lyrics in an upstairs bedroom... hence the chorus vocal "What's there?" Thom Yorke's ability to sustain-wobble-sustain a held note is delicious. Michael Stipe from R.E.M. and Thom have done some great live collabs.
Excellent review! You are really going to LOVE doing a deep dive in more Radiohead. I am old but I love a heap of different genres, but Radiohead is definitely my favourite band along with Pink Floyd and Massive Attack. Since you are a fan of well-crafted artistic songs, some Radiohead I would love you to review Pyramid Song (very different hard-to-pick time signature); How To Disappear Completely; Exit Music For A Film; Codex; Everything In It's Right Place; Nude; Reckoner; Subterranean Homesick Alien...that will do, sorry for the overload, I know you will enjoy each of these though. Keep up the great work, love from Australia
Music Kingdom, the one that music freaks tend to be blown away by from Radiohead (and Thom's favorite Radiohead song) is "How To Disappear Completely". There's songs like Paranoid Android or Bohemian Rhapsody or God Only Knows that are complex in fairly straightforward way. But "How To Disappear Completely" pulls on truly avant-garde "musicians' musicians" like Scott Walker, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Krzysztof Pendericki, etc. The play between dissonance and consonance in that song is f*cking stunning and truly timeless and majestic. That song is sort of where they crossed into a territory that felt truly magical.
my recommendations would be: How To Disappear Completely (from Kid A) probably my favourite song and a really beautiful masterpiece, in this one vocals are better and I consider this one of the saddest songs in History Also Weird Fishes, Reckoner and Nude (all of them from album in rainbows) are really great but songs from In Rainbows are better If you see them as a complete work, in that case in rainbows is probably one of the best works I've heard in music
I would so love it if you went down a radiohead rabbit hole..I can honestly say there are only two artists in this world that I can keep on permanent rotation and never get sick of and radiohead is one of them..xo as for the music expert, I’m glad he covered the interlude.. the vocals in that section are reminiscent of Gregorian Chant to me.. I love music when it does what my ear doesn’t expect it to, which one finds with rh a lot.. but it also always feels cohesive, purported and makes sense as a whole..
I respect this video very much. I think this song is a Masterpiece!!!!! I think the whole album is a Masterpiece. Weezer does a live cover version. There's a video where a dude does the whole album with just his voice!! It's Crazy Good. ♥🎼🎸🎹🎶🥁🎵
You've got an excellent presentation and very clean editing, underrated channel! Bit of a tip for making reaction, if you're worried about copyright there's not harm in looking up other reactions. If people have requested it, it most likely already has some reactions uploaded without complication
I don't know if anyone has suggested this, but I would love to watch you guys react to a song that hits either a 9 or 10 from the expert or solid 10 in any categories from the main reviewer. Like, pick out that one track that really did hit that ultimate mark in your history as a music lover. And I'll also look forward to more radiohead! also curious how listening to the From the Basement tracks will change your perception of Thom Yorke's vocal delivery. I think his utter complete control within such a delicate, fragile delivery is second to none, and often the most important instrument in a track. Curious if you'll agree at some point. Cheers!
Paranoid Android originally being a 14 minute song is a myth. I haven't been able to find an actual source to back this up over these multiple years of on and off searching. If someone does have a first hand source, please enlighten me.
After their first couple of albums all their stuff is very intentional, deteil oriented and meticulously crafted ( multiple years between albums) they never waste a note it is insane. I put Radiohead with the Beatles and Pink Floyd as best bands ever. They will probably be the last truly great band as the music industry has changed so much. I truly envy you because you have so much great music to explore.
Fantastic work, I subscribed. I'd suggest you to review something by Jeff Buckley if you're not related to his work apart from his most popular one"hallelujah". You could try last goodbye, or grace or mojo pin Or whatever you want his album is a masterpiece in my opinion.
When you go to Karaoke you always can hear a decent Whitney or Celine… but go on, find a good Thom impression! That’s how I rate Thom higher than those, admittedly great ladies.
I see… I’m going to be the only detractor. Ok. Thom’s voice is not for me. I feel it’s always sitting in that one range of sadness unfulfilled. Always yearning, but never quite getting there. To keep it light, I’ve wondered if Sting showed him some tantric sex techniques and he’s modeled his vocal delivery on edging. Never… letting… go... Onto the good things! I love the jazzyness. That first transition into that lower, bass-driven groove is fire. And it’s not just because the vocals stop They go in and commit to that groove. Possibly a little too “Jam Band-ish” to me? But they’re focused and never get lost. I might’ve even liked this section to go on longer. I don’t understand that hard break later in the song. Does it relate to the lyrics? Mostly, I don’t get the Bohemian Rhapsody comparison. Queen lets it build and build, vocals soaring to a crescendo so the release into hard rock feels natural and satisfying. Paranoid Android hits you with one hard drop. I don’t feel the tension rise. Doesn’t feel “smooth”. No Sting foreplay. 😁 In my defense, it’s really hard not liking what’s arguably the best band in the world. So I'm actually looking forward to more Radiohead. Well, I'm really looking forward to more Tool, but Radiohead is something I need to work harder on.
I was never a fan--then one night, like you--just decided to listen to the OK Computer album on headphones and came away thinking it was a masterpiece.
OK Computer is a concept album that explores the distrust of modern society's obsession with technology that leads to isolation, paranoia and risk (there are 2 songs that have crashes [car, airplane] as their main subjects and a 3rd that alludes to a potential car crash). Reviewing individual songs without that context dilutes the overall effect and impact of the songs. I suggest several listenings of the whole album to get the best effect as to why some think it is the best album of the late 20th century. Whether you agree or not with that statement it is hands-down one of the best albums of the 1990's I don't think there is a bad track on the album (except FITTER HAPPIER). That's not to discount later albums (I think IN RAINBOWS and MOON SHAPED POOL are both excellent)
As a music guy, you might enjoy "Just" off of their previous album, the bends. "Just" is what happens when a couple of music guys decide they're going to cram a song with as many key changes as possible.
Just chiming in, so many Radiohead songs to recommend.....but........you need to have a listen to How To Disappear Completely from Kid A. Not many songs bring out an emotive feeling but the composition on this one is for the ages. Don't miss out
@@TheMusicKingdom there is, and maybe the metal stuff is a bit niche, but Bowie? Isn’t he part of the musical education of everyone? Anyway, welcome to Radiohead. There’s only about 25 years of wildly different music to discover with their back catalogue. Much you’ll love, some that will leave you perplexed, some that will leave you cold, but it’s all interesting and worth the time investment. After that you can do Thom's solo work, his other projects (Unkle, The Smile (with Jonny), etc), his many collaborations, Jonny's film scores, Phil Selway's solo album from a few years back and probably loads of other stuff I’ve never even heard of. To be fair you can claim a varied and eclectic music taste just by listening to Thom Yorke!
Welcome to the world of Radiohead! Is this a great song?Yes but there is at least 20 Radiohead songs that are as good as this one. All different and interesting in there own way. For instance you noted the vocals in this song are not the highlight. But as you dive deeper into Radiohead you will learn Thom Yorke has one of the most angelic voices of all time. Listen to Nude for a spectacular vocal performance. In general the entirety of In Rainbow, Kid A and Ok Computer warrant a listen. I also think a Moon Shaped Pool and King of Limbs have many exceptional songs. Enjoy and have fun listening to greatness! Also if you get hooked on Radiohead check out the Smile I spinoff with Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood that is just as wonderful as Radiohead.
Paranoid Android is not the song to admire Thom's vocal skills, but as a matter of fact, many of the radiohead you actually do listen to for the vocals of Thom, try the song Nude
It's kinda weird that you're purporting to be an expert on all things music, speaking with absolute authority and rating a single tune in the context of every music ever created, and then do a blind review of Paranoid Android because you haven't heard it before. Doesn't add up you know :p Though I guess I watched the video all the way to the end so there's that. :) Welcome to Radiohead! My favourite tune of theirs is probably Reckoner.
There are other songs that better show Thom's vocal range and beauty, and the complexity of his vocal melodies and use of his voice as an instrument. I wouldn't at all say it isn't something you expect from Radiohead.
The problem with all these reactions is that these are albums a single artistic vision and meant to be listened to as a whole. The music industry has changed so much that none of you youngsters listen to whole albums any more which is how they were totally crafted to be.

If you want to see how well the lead singer can sing, try Nude and Reckoner the basement is live.
Well said! Much appreciated!
Radiohead rabbit hole is deep!✌🏻
This whole album is a masterpiece. Their best
That song is sort of where they crossed into a territory that felt truly magical.
my recommendations would be:
How To Disappear Completely (from Kid A) probably my favourite song and a really beautiful masterpiece, in this one vocals are better and I consider this one of the saddest songs in History
Also Weird Fishes, Reckoner and Nude (all of them from album in rainbows) are really great but songs from In Rainbows are better If you see them as a complete work, in that case in rainbows is probably one of the best works I've heard in music
Cheers!
Would love to see you do a video like this for "Everything In Its Right Place" and break down its extreme complexities.
Paranoid Android originally being a 14 minute song is a myth. I haven't been able to find an actual source to back this up over these multiple years of on and off searching. If someone does have a first hand source, please enlighten me.
The bridge is so haunting I cried when you played it ...
Great recommendation! Love Jeff Buckley.
When you go to Karaoke you always can hear a decent Whitney or Celine… but go on, find a good Thom impression! That’s how I rate Thom higher than those, admittedly great ladies.
plz keep going love these vids
Hell yes! Exit Music (For a Film) would be a great and logical next review from the band…same album just two songs later on the track list
In my defense, it’s really hard not liking what’s arguably the best band in the world. So I'm actually looking forward to more Radiohead. Well, I'm really looking forward to more Tool, but Radiohead is something I need to work harder on.
Welcome new Radiohead fan
Don't miss out
They’re my solid number 2. After Tool. It’s a good ways to number 3.
This song always reminds me of the terminator. The nuclear war orchestrated by AI
3 bars of 7/8, plus a bar of 9/8, makes for a great rhythmic phrase
The National Anthem off of Kid A would be a great next Radiohead song to review if you are not already familiar with it.
The idea that you have a varied and eclectic music taste and never having heard those artists you list at the start is just mindblowing.
There’s a lottt of other music out there…
@@TheMusicKingdom there is, and maybe the metal stuff is a bit niche, but Bowie?
Have you listened to Street Spirit Giving Thom only a 6 Blows my mind He is an amazing vocalist Please listen to more of their songs
EXIT MUSIC FOR A FILM!!!!
It is a prayer to our lord jesus.
I love music lovers loving music 👂
vocal should be at least 8 is the most strong point in the song
I’m curious, who are the three individuals in that framed photograph in the back?
Maurice, Barry, & Robin Gibb.
There are some songs where he gets closer to a "Celine DiThom" level.
You like time signature and tempo changes? Absolutely shocked I don’t see any Rush on your channel.
Doesn't add up you know :p
Though I guess I watched the video all the way to the end so there's that.
I suggest Talk Show Host as your next Radiohead listen, a deeper track that you won't hear on the radio.
If you do “Nude live from the basement” you’ll be giving 9 or 10 out of 10
The problem with all these reactions is that these are albums a single artistic vision and meant to be listened to as a whole. The music industry has changed so much that none of you youngsters listen to whole albums any more which is how they were totally crafted to be.
Patrick Bateman vibes
😊 Jeff Buckley 😊
I enjoyed the video, but scoring songs out of 10 feels like a bit of a crass throwback.
Yep free to review it but not critique it
Listen to exit music!
Could you stop drinking all the time 🙂
nice
