O my god!! he was playing Chris's bass lines and Patrick's solos at the same time. I am shocked that he was able to capture these blistering cascades of notes, the dynamic shifts, and the solos, while keeping the emotional through-line. This was essentially a note for note rendition of an insane piece of music written and played by five musicians!!!
Wow! I`m utterly blown away. An incredible version of Sound Chaser. I was mesmerised from the first note to the last .I`m sure if the guys from YES see this they`ll be shaking their heads in disbelief, and I mean that in a good way. Indeed, YES music will still be interpreted for many, many years to come.
One of Yes' most under-rated tracks IMHO, from an under-rated album. In terms of musicianship, I think Relayer is my top album. A one-off record, with that unique line-up of Moraz and the fab four. ...And I wonder how many notes this guy has memorised in 9 mins?
Freaking sensational bro!!! You nailed it!! One of the most challenging pieces Yes ever did and you did the whole thing magnificently on the piano!! Incredible!!!
Wow...one of those rare videos on UA-cam that makes you wish the sound quality was a hundred times better. Rachmaninoff would surely have been proud of that performance. (And I like to think he'd have been a Yes fan, too.)
I know this was posted 13 years ago, and I'm not sure that Stephen is even still with us, but this is pure genius! I will say there is a little boy on UA-cam that plays part of South Side of the Sky, and would give this video a run for the money
Brutal display of power from this guy. He's not only able to catch all the ebb and flow from that piece, but also translate it to his own language...Wonderful!!!
If this doesn't show the collective genius of Yes...I don't know what does. And strangely worth more than the sum of their parts. Kudos to Mr. Prutsman for his abilities and recognition of a great piece to pay homage to.
Phenomenal, hearing it this way makes me realize how beautifully complex this song is with all the amazing chords and key changes, not to mention the obvious speed and intensity of the composition.
Sound Chaser is my favourite Yes composition. Congratulations Mr Prutsman on your stunning arrangement and performance. You've certainly captured the polystylistic density of the original.
I'm applying to some linear accelerators to see if they can help me crack the lyrics. CERN still has my copy of the Relayer CD, they say they'll get back...
2 observations, in order of importance: 1: Ha ha! Pruttsman in Swedish roughly translates as “Fart-Man”. 2. Amazing rendition of this complex masterpiece. Probably one of my top 3 favorite renditions.
I saw Andre Watts perform Rachmaninoff's Concerto # 2 in C minor for piano and orchestra today with the Quad City Symphony and he was absolutely incredible. This guy, I have never heard of is in turn absolutely BRILLIANT I love this song and could have never imagined it being so complete on one instrument. Bravo Sir!
This a fantastic artist ! Patrick Moraz couldn't do better ... This is the best rendition of Yes I have ever seen, even considering Rick Wakeman... It must be a great honour for Yes to see their music performed like this. Thank you for sharing this wonderful video !
so tell me this is not as great as or superior to any classical music.. Stravinsky Mozart and Beethoven would shit themselves trying to play and write this.. YES is the greatest band in history
Stephen, I want to know, after the ecstatic rush that must overcome you toward the riotous climax of this piece --- how on earth do you hold yourself together to tap that exquisite little final note?!?
Amazing transcription. It is so rare to be able to captor the essence of a rock piece and magnify it at the same time ! The Melodie’s are perfectly integrated without sounding cheap as it so often do Is it one of a kind or have you recorded other rock monuments in studio ?
I bet I've watched this 200+ times in the last few years. I've known this song like the back of my hand for over forty years, this guy just *nails* it. All of it.
What he's playing here tells me Patrick Moraz never should have been let go from Yes, He was a combo of the best of Tony Kaye and Rick Wakeman, with Jazz in his heart. Phenomenal keyboardist, Steve Howe actually integrated with him (which he does not do with Wakeman, they're mostly off in their own worlds, and Howe will overdub a guitar part he can't play live rather than work something out with Wakeman) and Relayer is just a work Yes should be as proud of as Close to the Edge, because it's just as good. Amazing playing by Stephen Prutsman, made me appreciate the song even more.
Absolutely fantastic video! If you like Stephen playing this, buckle in and get some popcorn for this video of him playing Supper's Ready by Genesis ❤❤❤ ua-cam.com/video/_lkaxBD-pW4/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
Can the keyboardists in YES play this? I know Moraz had this song but could any YESman play this? Emerson? This guy is on fire. I have never seen such talent. There is no sheet music for this except basic chords and melody. This guy did it all by ear and his left hand is EPIC.
+Bobo Clown are you kidding? moraz is the most gifted keyboardist yes has ever had. maybe not the most tasteful in terms of sounds used in performances, but certainly he is the most talented and well rounded musician. in his youth, he won a prestigious jazz prize. and as much as i like wakeman, he is not a jazz player. another thing, moraz studied under the great nadia boulanger{sp?}, won of the greatest classical teachers of the 20th century. go have a listen to his "esp" album and you'll see how great he is.
You missed my point. I know all about the musicians in YES. What I'm saying is, can anybody else on Earth play this. It's brilliant!!! Bass parts, chord parts and melody all at the same time? Amazing talent.
Point taken. There is also something to note about composition. Who could write great stuff? As the composition of 'Sound Chaser' was a group effort between a few, take Hendrix's songs done by Stevie Ray - while doing a great job by expanding on Jimi's sound, SRV didn't write the same songs as Jimi and I think that's a difference that is rarely noted.
Unbelievable!! I´m completely astonished... Never thought I´d ever see this whole song with complete arrangements in a piano only version. Congratulations and cheers from Brazil!!
This piece sounds a lot like a 19th century classical piece---maybe Franz liszt. I have noticed that about a lot of Yes's music---a definite 19th century romantic music influence.
If only one could get and ELP or Zeppelin fan to listen to this....not for the enjoyment of the music but in order for them just to understand the difference between music and pop.
Totally fascinating to watch, very nice transcription, despite some parts not capturing the clarity and beauty of the original, but jeez, for a solo piano, this is a dynamite performance! Bravo!
I greatly appreciate the effort that went into this and it really shows the Lisztian Romanicism in the composition. What a time that was. I know exactly where I was when we un sheathed the album from the celophane all those years ago. Still, my favorite from that album is the second half of To Be Over. "Don't doubt your part, be ready to be loved."
This guy makes Rick Wakeman look like a beginner - seriously, eh? I mean, all the accolades Rick gets, but you only have to listen to this shit to realize that he ain't all that great. Just sayin' (as they like to say).
Just because Rick hasn't done something like this doesn't mean he's shit and couldn't. Why is it necessary to negatively compare instead of just admiring both of their talent? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Cha, cha, cha … Cha Cha!
This guy is unbelievable. Sound Chaser is just undoable on the piano, but this man pretty much did and nailed it ! I'm so fucking imressed !
O my god!! he was playing Chris's bass lines and Patrick's solos at the same time. I am shocked that he was able to capture these blistering cascades of notes, the dynamic shifts, and the solos, while keeping the emotional through-line. This was essentially a note for note rendition of an insane piece of music written and played by five musicians!!!
Dont forget alans parts
the whole YES on his fingertips !!
Ok, I'll watch it, now.
A whole orchestra in two only hands...but, such hands, with such a brain...
Normally i ask about sheet music.
In this case, I prefer to ask for his fingers.
I ask for his brain. Holy shit!
One of Yes' most under-rated tracks IMHO, from an under-rated album. In terms of musicianship, I think Relayer is my top album. A one-off record, with that unique line-up of Moraz and the fab four. ...And I wonder how many notes this guy has memorised in 9 mins?
Probably Alan Whites best album too.
Agreeeee!!
Yes Sound Chaser is Crazy EVEN by YES Standards ...and SO Beautiful
Not sure I agree it being underrated. Every write-up I’ve seen about the song rates it extremely favorably.
Yeah, like Relayer is an 'underrated' album - lol
Phenomenal!! I never dreamed this song could be transcribed for piano, and so faithfully, and beautifully played. Where can I get the sheet music?!
You'd need a quantum computer to crack dude's brain. Nobody wrote anything down, I feel confident in assessing.
It's all inside.
Fantastic! It sounds as if this song was written for piano. Thank you for giving my favorite song the proper treatment. What an incredible tribute.
The intro was written by Patrick and Alan during Patrick's audition.
Not bad.
My first reaction was: NO WAY NOWAY NOOOO NOWAY. OH GOD!
OH MY GOD. THIS SHOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE.
Freaking sensational bro!!! You nailed it!! One of the most challenging pieces Yes ever did and you did the whole thing magnificently on the piano!! Incredible!!!
This is an awesome rendition/interpretation of Sound Chaser. Totally blew my mind. ☼
Wow...one of those rare videos on UA-cam that makes you wish the sound quality was a hundred times better.
Rachmaninoff would surely have been proud of that performance. (And I like to think he'd have been a Yes fan, too.)
As no doubt Ginastera would, as well.
How could anyone put a thumbs down for this great extraordinaire?
The playing is remarkable, but what I love is the interpretation.
Clearly, this fellow loves the music.
I know this was posted 13 years ago, and I'm not sure that Stephen is even still with us, but this is pure genius! I will say there is a little boy on UA-cam that plays part of South Side of the Sky, and would give this video a run for the money
What can one say? This is one of the most incredible piano performances I have ever seen in my life!
AND he does the Howe solo to boot. Amazing.
Brutal display of power from this guy. He's not only able to catch all the ebb and flow from that piece, but also translate it to his own language...Wonderful!!!
wow. just, wow.
If this doesn't show the collective genius of Yes...I don't know what does. And strangely worth more than the sum of their parts. Kudos to Mr. Prutsman for his abilities and recognition of a great piece to pay homage to.

Sound Chaser is my favourite Yes composition. Congratulations Mr Prutsman on your stunning arrangement and performance. You've certainly captured the polystylistic density of the original.
Not until a tune like this is transcribed to piano, you begin to realize the complexity and construction of the original.
I'm applying to some linear accelerators to see if they can help me crack the lyrics.
CERN still has my copy of the Relayer CD, they say they'll get back...
😅
UNBELIEVABLE!!!! It's like no he didn't. But YES he did!!!!!! love love love
Fantastic! Waiting for his next interpretation of a Yes song! Such a strong left hand.
First, bravo to the musician, Stephen Prutsman.
2 observations, in order of importance:
1: Ha ha! Pruttsman in Swedish roughly translates as “Fart-Man”.
2. Amazing rendition of this complex masterpiece. Probably one of my top 3 favorite renditions.
In Dutch it means something like a man who does everything wrong ;-)
This is one of my dad's distant cousins! How cool to see him here!
Shows us great example of how 'symphonic' YES music truly is
I saw Andre Watts perform Rachmaninoff's Concerto # 2 in C minor for piano and orchestra today with the Quad City Symphony and he was absolutely incredible. This guy, I have never heard of is in turn absolutely BRILLIANT I love this song and could have never imagined it being so complete on one instrument. Bravo Sir!

Simply amazing....!!!! What a great interpretation . Genius...
wow, superb, Mr Prutsman! Absolutely first Class!
so tell me this is not as great as or superior to any classical music.. Stravinsky Mozart and Beethoven would shit themselves trying to play and write this.. YES is the greatest band in history
I still can't get over this ..........Also shows how inventive YES really was
Que incrível versão de Sound Chaser. Merece um prêmio ! Obrigado pela postagem.
Wow a true piano master!!! Love it.
I keep coming back to this, again & again for years.
This is an amazing interpretation.
Wow! Absolutely incredible performance.
Holy cow! Uber Amazing!
I bet I've watched this 200+ times in the last few years. I've known this song like the back of my hand for over forty years, this guy just *nails* it. All of it.

Amazing, sir. F**king amazing. Thank you.
Of all Yes songs ,.this one surely is the most innovative and groundbreaking ..
Its been years since I’ve commented on this Masterpiece, but I find myself coming back to this performance, just superb work!
Look at those left hand arpeggios.
A great find and an exceptional performance! Thanks for sharing.
Yeah, I think Gershwin would be groovin', too.
Can the keyboardists in YES play this? I know Moraz had this song but could any YESman play this? Emerson? This guy is on fire. I have never seen such talent. There is no sheet music for this except basic chords and melody. This guy did it all by ear and his left hand is EPIC.

+Bobo Clown emerson definitely could lol he could probably play about anything
+Bobo Clown I've been lucky enough to encounter some truly amazing musicians in life. Check out Pegasus' Descent by Radim Zenkl.

Interesting version,.. very good pianist..... 👍🎶
Excuse me, but I love the rock-version.... 😊
Stephen, this is amazing. Your interpretation takes the song to a whole new level. Bravo. And keep at it... all the way!
I wonder if Jon Anderson has heard this!
Liszt would have composed something like this I feel like.
Utterly amazing and unreal...... :-O
Awesome. (But...) Video rip person: always use your deinterlace filter w/interlaced footage.
Wow! What an arrangement! This album was a backdrop to my high school years. ...among several others.
Mind blowing.
Focking Brilliant!!!!!
Reminds me of JFJO.
Thanks for Posting.
So great to have transcribed this song with the vocals on piano !!
You are a virtuoso !!
Bravo
Excellent interpretation
Where is the blistering ovation? I don't get moved by covers...but THIS... Wow. Even the overdubs in the "cha cha chas"
If only one could get and ELP or Zeppelin fan to listen to this....not for the enjoyment of the music but in order for them just to understand the difference between music and pop.
Wow ! BRAVO ! Wow !! ~ Is this possible !?! LOL I love It ! ~ GREAT SHARE !!
🤯👏. I was asked to play a piano solo for my high school graduation. I played Starship Trooper. 🤣
"Cha cha cha, CHA CHA !!!!!" - One of Yes' finest moments, in my estimation.
That's got to be harder to play than anything by a dead white composer from the 15th century.
Holy.................................................................................................................................................................................................shit.
Bravo Mr. Prutsman!
Wow, absolutely amazing!!!!!
Yes, I’m sure they would approve. Excellent.
Wow incredible! I think Howe’s solo sounds better on piano! Great job!
Totally fascinating to watch, very nice transcription, despite some parts not capturing the clarity and beauty of the original, but jeez, for a solo piano, this is a dynamite performance! Bravo!
$50,000 piano. $5.00 chair. This is some awesome stuff. That piano will never be the same.
YOU FORGOT TO SAY PLAYING SOUND CHASER IN CLASSICAL FORM...PRICELESS!!!
Holy sh*t!! Mother Mary & Joseph! What a performance! What a song!
just great, you are amazing. Congratulations.
Unbelievable!
Bravo!!!
Gosh this friggn beautiful a bit of a masterpeice!!!
LOVE THIS. That is exactly how I have imagined this in my head. But, why did you cut off the audience reaction at the end?
Stephen took the most difficult piece of works by YES and made it his own, he NAILS IT BEAUTIFULLY!!!!
This is the sound I get when I clean my piano!.......
I'd rather see Jon Anderson performing with Stephen than with Rick Wakeman, honest...
Remember this next time someone says wakeman is the best ever....
Simply amazing.
What a mind blowing arrangement! The tension and release you created reminds me of something Leonard Bernstein would have created.
Holy Shit
Wish I could do that hahaah
Totally love that song
Check out Jordan Rudess version
It smokes
I greatly appreciate the effort that went into this and it really shows the Lisztian Romanicism in the composition. What a time that was. "Don't doubt your part, be ready to be loved."
YES then One of Steve’s greatest guitar parts
Extraordinary. I assume he didn't learn it from the sheet music!
This is the best piece of interpretation of Yes music I have ever heard. Sir, you are completely awesome!
Cha cha cha CHA CHA!
I'm a bit late finding this but omg that is amazing.
This guy makes Rick Wakeman look like a beginner - seriously, eh? I mean, all the accolades Rick gets, but you only have to listen to this shit to realize that he ain't all that great. Just sayin' (as they like to say).
