I bought two pair of Deans. Black and brown. They sent me the two pair, two pair of shoe trees, the shoe bags, extra laces, they come w foam inserts to snug them up if you need which I don’t. These are seriously the most comfortable pair of shoes I’ve ever owned. Mine were fantastic as far as QC. I’m not paying $500 for shoes ever. These were perfect for me and my taste.
Appreciate that you're both presenting these assessments and reviews in a long-form discussion format as well as in a ten-minute quick viewing format since both are useful for different but related reasons.
I'm very fond of my beckett simonon shoes (penny loafers and jodhpurs). Did not notice any inconsistency in color or detailing on mine, but they do scuff more readily than some others.
Haven't had any issues with the Durant pairs I have. Excellent shoes for the money and look fabulous on the feet. No such QC issues with the ones I have and at this price point I world rather not be so exacting in standards.
Just bought myself a pair of derbies from Beckett Siminon for $169, and I hope they fixed quality issues after 3 years. Despite being the leather inconsistencies, the construction is still way better than $200 pair of leather shoes from the department store. Since I live in New York, I have endless options, and to get the same kind of construction like Beckett Simonon, I would be looking at the $300 - $400 range. Had Beckett Simonon not been inconsistent with their leather colors, they would be perfect. Leather shoes for $200 would only get you rubber soles and faux stitching. My shoes arrive in August, I hope it's worth it.
I just received my Beckett Simenon brown suede penny loafers. I’m no expert but I can tell you these are amazing shoes for the money. Well made and shipped with extra inserts in separate bags. I haven’t worn them outside yet but that’ll have to wait till tomorrow. Best of all they came with a 20% discount card on my next order. 😊😊
I don’t believe they’re claiming 199 to be the sale price, but are just trying to say that the equivalent price for this shoe in the market would cost 350 or whatever. Not really measurable as it’s subjective though I guess
Thanks for the video. I have a lot of their shoes, and they fit great. So just like anything, not every shoe is going to work for everyone. They have great customer service, so I encourage everyone to try them out. I fully recommend them for quality, comfort, and value for money. They now have all models available at all times for preorder. Preston stated that they rotated the available shoes, which was true up until early this year.
I have definitely recommended them to people great quality for n awesome price they definitely my go too for minimal sneakers, dress shoes and Chelsea boots
Great shoe for the money. Mine took a few months to get here and they were too tight, not Beckett Simonon's fault. They have great customer service and I was able to return for full credit. Keep in mind that support is via email and usually they dont respond until the next day.
These are frequently two for $299 which is a great way to buy quality, refurbishable shoes without breaking the bank on more established brands with similar quality.
I'm a big Charles Tyrrwhit fan and purchased their shoes 2 months ago. They started creasing early and the leather is stiff and light. The color and shape is great though, but I will be looking for something more comfortable in the coming months. Per this video (and past ones) I'll likely Avoid Simonon and give Ace Marks a try. Side note: You guys are running the channel great and it keeps getting better. Keep it comin!
Thanks guys! I have a pair of the cap to resell on Ebay. I remembered this video, so I referenced it to get an idea of what my price point should be. Thank you so much! Lisa
Thank you for posting these in separate segments. I have to say, I'm not sold on this brand, would rather pick up some AEs on sale, a high quality vintage or pre-owned pair of shoes and have them resoled, than buy these for $200, wait months and receive shoes with QC issues.
I've been wary of buying dress shoes or boots from Beckett Simonon, and now I'm glad that I never took the plunge. But I did order some low profile white sneakers from them. I really wanted Koios, but I didn't want to pay $248 for white sneakers that may get messed up relatively quickly despite my best efforts. I think I paid $106 for the Beckett Simonons, thinking that I wouldn't have much to lose. But if there are construction issues, I'm really going to regret not spending the extra money for the Koios.
These guys don't like AE either. They eviscerated some of the most popular bespoke suit makers but I think it's because they both have irregular builds that are hard to Taylor. Other UA-cam reviews are better. These guys are better for " how to videos " and etiquette advice.
It’s interesting that I’m having a color matching issue as well, two years after this video. I got the Dean Oxfords in Oak and the soles are significantly lighter than the uppers. Beckett Simonon says this variance is typical because they are hand dyed. They said they could not guarantee another pair would match and they won’t fix the ones they sent. They did offer to reimburse me for the cost of having a cobbler do it. Sad because I have 4 other products from them and they are all phenomenal.
I've also been sent Beckett Simonon shoes to review, and I think that they might send factory seconds, returned models, or something like that out to reviewers. They have them in stock, and well, I didn't pay, so I find it pretty reasonable, I just wish they had told me in advance so I could plan to compare them on fair terms.
As a reviewer you need to purchase your pair. If you ask them for a pair to review you get the best pair, so your review is worthless for the average person. I am glad Beckett Simonon didn't give you a good pair though, makes me appreciate them even more.
These are the go to for a guy just getting started. What I will say is BckS needs to use their European contract cordwain team for a higher end in stock models. Theres no reason you cannot pull from the same hide. Or at least go to hand staining to make it consistent.
I generally agree about the misleading pricing but, in fairness, their website is clear enough (for the few customers who would take the time to read and think about it) that the higher price is intended to represent what the company claims it would have to charge if it operated on a “traditional retail” model as opposed to their “made to order” model. It’s not nearly so egregious as a company like Jos. A. Bank where everything is perennially “on sale” for a “limited time.” Also bought two pairs of shoes from BS and did not experienced the kinds of quality control issues discussed here. However, I don’t think I’ll be purchasing from them again. I’m a more educated consumer now and I know there are Goodyear welted shoes made with comparable materials available for about the same price. I don’t regret buying them but I think you can get a better product for the same money elsewhere.
It's not saying the show is marked down but showing the "traditional price" for shoes with those materials and construction methods. It's showing that the shoes are a better value with the same amount of quality.
@@shakezmaybe3192 Yeah I’m right there with you. I just pre-ordered my first $500 pair from Cobbler’s union. I can barely afford it so I’m definitely hoping they last more than 10 years.
Most oxfords are made in parts, as you can see it’s all parts of the shoe. And sometimes you’d get some mix color leather. For me it gives me a special looking shoe so I never take them back.
That's concerning. I bought 3 pair of BS shoes at different times in the last year and have had no quality issues with them. The 4th pair delivered in May they started stitching the soles and looks like they stopped and reset(can still see those holes) and then stitched through the last N in Simonon. And then, didn't dye the tongues of both shoes. I took pics and customer service was great, said they shouldn't have passed QA then gave me a gift card which i used on a pair of wholecuts to be delivered in September. I would give this pair a pass as I'm guessing they were trying to get the shoes out before Columbia locked down but i still had to buy a saphir stripper and dye to do the tongues myself. A pair of wholecuts hopefully can't be messed up but I'll have to check the quality once received.
Color variation is not due to lack of quality control but due to use of full grain leather. In fact it’s a hallmark sign of full grain leather. Lower grades of leather have more uniformity in color and other variables.

I owe 4 pairs from them and I am glad I found Meermin ,Velasca and Ace Marks. You would expect to get a more better built shoe after months of waiting but unfortunately that isn't the case. They are good looking shoes but the quality isn't there. Next to my Paul Evans they look like toy shoes.
I disagree with this comment. I have Meermins, Santoni, Allen Edmonds, Carminas and other brands including Paul Evans. These aren’t on the same level of those but they definitely don’t look like “Toy Shoes”. Good value for $150-$160 in my opinion. As mentioned in this video the last is actually pretty nice and leather quality is pretty also pretty good.
Aren't those brands much more expensive than Beckett Simonon? BS can always be had at a 20% discount with a code like FB20 or BUY20, so they're really only $160 with free shipping & returns.
Would there be any vegan shoes you could review to see how it might work or not for your standards? I see some nice alternative leathers, in addition to textile materials
Every "vegan" leather I have seen and touched so far was garbage. I have read about a company trying to grow leather in a petri dish and if they succeed, I think that has huge potential.
It’s not possible to sell a quality shoe for under $400 and make a profit. Even at the $400 price point...that’s a stretch, thesedays Carmina are the cheapest shoes I’ll buy since Allen Edmonds is almost as bad as Johnston and Murphy thesedays.
The guy on the right sounds like he has peanut butter stuck on the roof of his mouth. Also, he’s a hater on any shoe brand that isn’t Allen Edmonds. Thumbs down.
I think this is a good, affordable pair for starting a collection. Much better than cemented models from the mall.
Did you have any quality problems like this? Also, alot of other reviews I saw didn't have these complaints either. They all said good entry level

Their shoes are going for 160. You guys a little tough for a shoe at that price point. You will not find a better shoe at 160.
It s cool how you divided the video into segments. Thanks.

Technically both can be worn with a navy suit. The Dean in Bordeaux is a great match while the Durant in a lighter shade of brown is an ok match.
