@bthang1 I'll try to explain: NFL: 11 players per side, field is 100x53yds, 4 downs, 10yd end zone, goal posts in the back of the end zone, touchback - ball goes to 20. CFL: 12 players per side, field is 110x65yds, 3 downs, 20yd end zone, goal posts in the front of the end zone, touchback - ball goes to 35 and kicking team gets 1 point. Also known as a "single" or "rouge" due to the red flag used to signal the 1 point in the early days. Rouge is French for red.

@CDxTWal It is simply that the rules are different. Our field is wider, and longer. Anyone is the backfield is allowed to be in motion. Oh and the single point for kicking it through the end zone, that is a vestige of a long time ago, not unlike say Aussie rules, where if you miss the goal you get a point if you kick it through.
Thats why its called Canadian football , the endzone is bigger to favorise the pass. And our receivers can moved behind the line , they cross the line at the perfect time to be faster at the beggining :) Sorry for my english im a french canadian
@wbrycem I'm am American and I was looking for comments about the goal post being in front of the end zone. I couldn't find any, but regardless. CFL's goal post do seem to be a bit longer in length. So there is the difference in the NFL and the CFL's. Nothing wrong with it, like we don't have points in our standings. Good game though
Your goal posts USED to be in the front of the end zone. The NFL moved them to the back in 1974. Check out Super Bowl VIII and you'll see the posts at the goal line.
I don't understand the fight of American vs Canadian Football... who cares how big the field is, how many downs, how many players. Gridiron in general is IMO the greatest sport ever made because it's war with a ball. Most Canadians love Hockey (I love Hockey too). but Gridiron Football to me is the most fun to watch. This was a great game. 28-27 doesn't get much better than that. I like American college football the best but this CFL is a great game too.
@CDxTWal First, the end zones are big because it allows kick returners to run the ball out of the end zone on a missed field goal (same reason as to why the field goals are on the goal line). Also, touchbacks result in 1 point given to the kicking team, which encourages kick returners to bring the ball out of the end zone if they feel that they're going to get decent field position out of it. Lastly, in the CFL, all offensive backfield players, except the QB, may be in motion before the snap.
@SuperVancouverBC i find this in wikipedia: Lacrosse (in particular box lacrosse) is the national summer sport of Canada. its the summer national sport because football is played summer and fall so its a multi-season sport and i found this too in wikipedia by typing CFL : the most popular football league in Canada, and the second-most popular major sports league in Canada, after the National Hockey League
@Ireland615 Actually, the NFL used to have the uprights at the goal line as well. They moved it back. Take a look at footage from old Superbowls before 1974. The Canadian game is the older game. This year is Super Bowl XLV but it's Grey Cup XCVIII.

Yes, having to move the huddle faster and throw more often makes it more stagically based, and dont forget you can recover your own punt in canadian football.
The Saints/Colts Super Bowl is a classic too, just that the game wasn't decide on a crucial penalty rather that it was a critical interception thrown by the veteran Manning to Tracy Porter that sealed the win for the Saints.

The endzone is explained below it comes from Rugby. Missed fieldgoals do get a point if kicked out of the endzone or not returned to +1 yard. We have motion in the CFL with slotback unlike NFL with TE's or WR's
I sold our tickets to that game to some Riders fans and watched the game from a bar in Calgary. As a Stamps season ticket holder, why would I want to be there? This is the year that the riders will win the grey cup for 2 reasons
1: we have totally stack up our team with amazing players!!!
2: the grey cup is being held in our own backyard. When the riders make it to the grey cup, you will bot be able to hear ANYTHING making it much harder on the other team
GO RIDERS GO
I needed a good laugh.. Canadian entertainment is hilarious
that was a good comeback....cant wait for season 2010 to start
The endzone is explained below it comes from Rugby. Missed fieldgoals do get a point if kicked out of the endzone or not returned to +1 yard. We have motion in the CFL with slotback unlike NFL with TE's or WR's
even though the riders are my favoirte team (i like the als too) this was probably the most exciting football game i have ever seen
lol i always smile when i see this video! the best part is the end, while a whole city of rider fans are celebrating the ref makes the call..
Those were the good days. Hopefully we’ll get back to that success soon
I sold our tickets to that game to some Riders fans and watched the game from a bar in Calgary. As a Stamps season ticket holder, why would I want to be there? What a laugh we had in that bar when that missed field goal got called back and the Alouettes ripped the heart out of Saskatchewan when they made that second attempt. I know just how they felt having had my heart ripped out in similar ways but it was f'ing funny just the same. Oh how we love our teams. 🥰
Anyone who actually watched this game wouldn't say that the quality of the CFL product is inferior to the NFL product. Most Super Bowls are snooze-fests. I'm fortunate to be a Giants fan AND an Alouettes fan since I've been on the winning end of three exciting championship games, Super Bowl XXV, Super Bowl XLII and Grey Cup XCVII.
i was in a bar watching this(in MTL)people went nuts!some jumped over the bar and and chuggling everything to could get their hand on!!
still Saskatcheewan played a nice game..almost 'till the end..
I enjoyed this so much oh my
2023 and Mtl made a comeback and won within 13 seconds to go.. not as epic as this game but still good
I don't think any CFL fan will forget this one!!! Being a Bomber fan, I really enjoyed seeing the Riders choke. Now that the Bombers are the joke of the league, I've almost become in different to them. I actually the Riders win tomorrow. Stay warm everybody!
Your Bombers were the class of the CFL last year. Congrats on winning the cup! 😁
Oh wow no way that's awesome! Thanks a lot! August 27th put that on my calendar lol
I never get tired of watching this! Biggest choke in the history of the CFL.
When you think about it, both teams choked badly. The difference was that the Riders just couldn't accurately count to 12. 😁
The most memorable Grey Cup in CFL history. We’ll never forget the 13th man
What a great game, the Saskatchewan fans got there heart ripped out, 2009 Grey Cup Champions, Montreal Alouettes, !! GO ALS GO !!
