Dropping my one week review on the Behringer Crave !
I've been exploring the full abilities of the Behringer Crave in my synthesizer setup for about 1 week and I'm impressed at what this little mono, single OSC synth adds to a multi synthesizer setup.

Thanks for the video! I want to start with the Behringers' synths. I want to get the Crave first. Which one would you recommend to get right after it? Thanks! : )

Stupid noob question here, as I'm trying to get into integrating MIDI to my setup - Would I be able to run a Little Phatty and Prophet 08 into the Crave via MIDI, and add those to the sequencer? Also, what are you using for drums? Dig the track!

Great Video Todd, I really enjoyed your overview. I got the Crave before the holiday season last year. I have it paired up with the Arutria Microbrute mono synth. The Microbrute does not have 5 pin din Midi out, however I use the CV out to CV in and the Arturia Microbrute works great as a controller. Bass lines and octave lines layering sounds between the two are great. The Crave does provide that "Moog like" tonality at times. Have a great upcoming week, stay safe out there.

The crave is a great single oscillator mono synth. The character is distinct, not like any of the other behringer synths. Great bass. Great leads. Has a sustain knob which to me matters as opposed to just a on off switch like the mother 32. In my opinion that alone gives is a slight edge. 🤷🏼‍♂️ either way absolutely lovely simple synth.

I’ve yet to have the high end for into my fox very good but that could change and be style depending. Either way it’s a killer synth for the price no matter what role it ends up playing for you

Todd Smith Music agreed. Tune it high as a layer with another synth, add reverb. Maybe use the other synth later with a poly synth playing chords in the same note/ progression as the high end layer of the behringer, sounds great and give your filter and res control over a layer that just sounds cool tweaking. Lately i been playing my crave with my model d basically giving my model d a 4th oscillator. In another project i layer it with a juno playing chords with the chorus on and man it sounds dope there too. 🤷🏼‍♂️ many ways to add it into a work flow. I did trigger my sequencer on it with my rd-8 once too, and it was mad cool playing a bassline sequence loop in time with the rd-8! This machine will stay in my studio for good. :) i love it.

pretty cool eh.. I like the Crave oscillator a lot..So phat for bass. It's rare for a 1 osc synth to have that kind of ooomph in the bass end. Honestly, i don't like the step sequencer. RENOISE sequences all. TODD, do this, put the ASSIGN to Velocity MIDI.. Assign to velocity cutoff.. Play the keys in different velocities.. Instant Front 242/Depeche.. Or connect the Assign(MIDI velocity) to the MODEL D, OMG. that velocity cutoff is soooo bubbly.. Also connect Assign to the Pro 1 too and see which one has the best sound.. I think the Model D rox

I have the crave and the neutron but the crave to me is easier and better but I just got the neutron also the crave is basically the Moog 32 same patch layout too there’s a video of a guy helping with patches that uses the crave and he put them side by side and they were sounding about the same

Imho you will not find a better synth at- or even near- that price point. Not everyone has the price of a Crave to spare, but if you do, then it’s a case of what have you got to lose. And you’ll get used to the colour, trust me...

A used Microkorg is a absolute steal even today. It's not "new" but you can get good used ones it's VERY diverse and one of the best synth engines made in my opinion. You can snag them for 250$ish online

As for brand new prices, not many things go that low could compete that's a fact. I do think there is something special about the volca keys/ bass and a few other volca and some of those PO drum/samplers are freaking KILLER for the price point. It's really amazing how many low cost, amazing sounding units we have today.

Todd Smith Music I’m on record as preferring the Volca Bass to the td-3. And the PO-12 is less than £50, and amazing when run through an interface...

It’s a different machine. It got lots of hate out the gate for not being a acid machine but like you stated it’s great in its own right and glad it wasn’t just a “acid” clone. They did one of those with that other bass Volca later in the line tho
