Hey mate, as a fellow lover of 2 craves (and 2 td3s) and a freak, can I suggest you add a modal skulpt se. The price of these has dropped to the pojnt they're basically being given away. I get where you're coming from with your sound. Trust me, the skulpt would take your sound up another level.
By 2:52 I know this is the video for me .. seriously thank you! I play with music but patching is still a mystery to me. I got the Crave specifically to try to learn the ways. Just knowing how to add randomisation is super helpful!!
Great stuff mate. You can use a cheap headphone splitter to create more mults. There are cheap ‘star’ style ones one Amazon- you even get a short patch cable with them. Seems to work fine for me, I bought it to use with my Microbrute after I saw a guy on UA-cam doing it. His channel is LiquidLimbs. I have a Crave myself- I love that thing. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone especially as a first synth. I got my at a ridiculous price a couple of years ago. I would also recommend pairing it with a Behringer Vintage Phaser that costs about thirty quid. Sounds awesome- especially when using the white noise to make wind type effects. If you also buy a cheap Behringer mixer with FX you get Reverb and EQ and even basic compression at a decent price. All told could probably buy the Crave a mixer and the Phaser pedal for about £250 at todays prices.
You sir are a true synthisist! I will be trying some of these patches on my gear. Also very clever move getting 2x craves as a modular rack alternative! I was planning on doing the same, but with 2 Neutron's, but now you got me thinking I should get a Crave to go with my Neutron!
@@TechTronix01 The LFOs of the Kastle? There is a LFO reset patchpoint on there, don't know if it will work with GATE/ENV coming from the Crave... not quite sure if it works with a gate or needs a pulse...
love your video mate, you seem very legit, an your voice is easy to listen to compared to alot the yanks doing same thing here. keep up your vids, enjoying em !! :)
I'm hoping we see more desktop semi modular in future. I wouldn't mind seeing something with a smaller form factor than the crave I can use to add another oscillator, mults etc. it's the main reason I haven't gotten a second one. I want to learn to use the digital modulation/LFO it has though that might help me do me over for now
You should check out the rest of Moog's semi-modular desktop synths. The Crave here is a rather shameless clone of the Mother 32, which they altered cosmetically and didn't market as a clone because the Mother 32 is still in active production. Anyway, Moog also has the DFAM and Subharmonicon in the same format. They do some very interesting and unique things.
Hey there homie . I’m thinking to buy one and this was so helpful for me.. (I have a question) if I can use with usb with fl studio!? And get the sound effects and everything in the daw ?!
Usb for the midi and you will need to come out the headphone jack or line out into somewhere to record the audio.. I.e. and audio interface with inputs
Some nice ideas there- thanks. I’m guessing that it’s second nature to you, but it would have been useful if you had described how to actually get a sequence into the Crave; I also have two of these, and I’ve never managed to program a sequence into either of them. How did you first manage it?
@@TechTronix01 That would be great. I’ve had both running- playing bass and an arp- controlled by iOS sequencers on any number of occasions, and I’ve got hardware sequencers too. It would be nice to have them play standalone now and again though.
@@TechTronix01 Turns out that I have TWO duff Craves. On one, pressing the ‘record’ button does nothing but light that button- nothing flashes, nothing can be programmed in. On the other, it IS possible to record a sequence, but it won’t tempo sync by patching to the Crave’s tempo, or gate inputs, or any other input. It’s just as well I can sequence them by midi over usb, huh?
Yeah and you can keytrack it.. the way I did it quickly was to leave the modulating crave on.. I.e. vca open so it plays continuously.. then play the first crave after patching via lin into fm.. or pass it through the vc mix so u can mix it in. Beyond that I would keytrack the second crave through a mult and the gate.. so you only need to press a key on the first crave and the second modulation will be set by the detune
Hello sir, i want to ask something; i just bough a crave and if use vca/line output to directly my speaker i only get sound from Left which is cause by its mono, if i use headphones out i can get the sound from L and R but volume is coming too low, am i missing something ? Whats the purpose of the using vca/line out then ?
Thanks for the question!! The line output is to go In to mono mixing desk input or other module in eurorack it also has a stronger signal . The stereo out is stop it only coming out of one side of the headphones. This way, you have both options, but it's a lower level slightly as the signal is split.
Yo nice review buddy! I'm just wondering if you or anyone here has a Crave and a Microbrute? I have a MB and I'm thinking a Crave would be a nice playmate... Any thoughts? Cheers!
Yeah I was gonna get a microvrute because it has a clockable lfo.. good for bass switch ups.. you could patch it into the crave while being synced. If you can get one cheap I probably would. Or maybe look at its big brother
I have both. They are a great combo! I like to patch the sound of one through the other, play them together for a 5 oscillator sound (1 osc from the crave, 4 waveforms blended from the MB)...use the lfo from one on another for 2 lfo’s simultaneously, etc. it’s so fun and sound very different, but work well together. I sequence them both with a Beatstep pro.
Anthony Beckham dat still only 2.5 osc Toz. 😉I’ll allow as Microbrute VCO & sub is killer. Love the metalizer on the triangle wave. I’ve got 2 MBs. So useable. Have to get me a crav.

@@TechTronix01 The Bastl Kastle thingies are quite good too, you can easily use the LFO, Pattern Generator and the osc for exterrnal audio...
Does the lfo retrigger?

Crave is awesome, I have mine paired with a neutron, not used it for a while as I've been loving my MPC one, but I'll link the two to the MPC one day
they are made to be linked hehe
If you don't have this synth it is more then worth the price and I basically stopped or forget to use my Beatstep Pro in favor of it's sequencer.
Sequencing them off a groovebox is wkd with scales ect
If anything else this cheap sounds as good, yet to hear it myself. Lovely filter. worth the money just for that with it's audio in.
Definitely a no brainer owning one of these I think.. so much it can do!!

Is it possible to pair the crave with the model D ???
Yes they workgreat with eachother through the cv outs

Why did you sell them?
To buy a nuetron
