Can’t believe I didn’t find this channel sooner! I was on the turbolist back in the day. Bought my PC-FX in the late 90’s from NCS. So great to see familiar names like David Shadoff, BT, and others from the turbolist days. Keep up the great work guys. Can’t wait to get caught up on these videos!
I'm late, but I'm here! I never even knew a PC-FX was a thing. About two years ago I got my hands on a PC Engine Turbo Duo R, because I never had a NEC console growing up. Now I'm a huge fan, now I need a PC FX. Thanks a lot guys!!! I was trying to save money😂
Glad we could introduce you to the console! If you have any questions or need help/advice with the system, our discord community is usually lively and happy to help.
@@shinmegamitalksIt's in the video description. You might have to hit "more" to see it since UA-cam doesn't like to overwhelm folks with information. It's in the list of links under "discord channel".
Lots of interesting talking points here. I think it's safe to say that the PC-FX is not only underrated, but also misunderstood. I've seen many examples of gamers/collectors writing it off as the goofy FMV-system, without really having a grasp of the library. I think the historical lines from PC-88/98 software (not just bishoujou-games and visual novels, but very much RPGs too) going through the PC Engine CD-ROM library up to the PC-FX library is very fascinating. There's something to be said about how amazingly specific the PC Engine CD style of cutscenes and cinematics was; it was a particular blend of vintage anime style, beautiful and colorful real time rendered but mostly static graphics (not unlike PC-98), combined with the slickest and most melody-popping synth-rock CD audio you've ever heard in your life (before and after, really). There's really nothing quite like it on any other console IMO, not with the same level of nostalgic impact, but the PC-FX would've been the next step. The evolution from beautiful PC Engine CD real-time rendered cutscenes with mostly static graphics to FMV playback of the same type of vintage anime could've made for a lot more amazing anime-themed exclusives, so it's sad the life of the PC-FX was cut so short. Not to say I'm not happy with the little we did get.
very interesting episode again, love listening, you can see and feel the passion about this system. Maybe it was mentioned before, but how does the MSX system compare to the PCFX? i only know it had Snatcher :) did the PXFX work plug & play? just insert the disc and thats it, like a normal console? cause it looks like a PC.
Thanks! I actually don't know much about the MSX or MSX2 aside from the fact that they were a target platform for game development. Despite its looks the PC-FX plays like a cd-based game console. You just pop the CD in and the game starts up. There is a system menu that allows you to access additional features such as a CD player function, photo CD playback and memory management (internal/memory card.)

Dedicating a channel for PC-FX? hardcore.
Glad you like it! Hoping to have a new episode out soon.

The system is definitely misunderstood. Aspects of its games library are really interesting.
Good episode guys.
Thanks for watching!

Otaku gamer podcast with Japanese subtitle.
We don't have Japanese subtitles on this one, unless they are auto generated, but there should be some upcoming Japanese subtitled clips!
