@@cindysue5474 I have a friend in Iowa that has one he ordered from Chevrolet in 1973 with a 454. Swivel buckets and...IT'S BLACK. He does some hellacious burnouts in it.
This brings back a lot of memories. I worked on the assembly line at the Leeds Plant in Kansas City, Missouri. Helped assemble thousands of Monte Carlos. During those years we also built Chevelles and El Caminos, all great cars!
This 74 is breathtaking! This is one of the best body styles from the Monte family. I remember a guy rebuilt one down the street from my old house when I was a kid! He painted it maroon with white stripes!🔥
Another GM great!! Kudos to their design engineers, year after year. Chevy seemed to just keep hitting it out of the park thru the 60s and 70s ..... This Monte Carlo is a great example. Watching it turn under the lighting pretty much tells the story on this one. Another fantastic Volo find .... And Very well described, as they always are. Thank you for your continued work in bringing these to us!
Back when I was a teenager these cars were everywhere. I thought they were good-looking cars then but I really appreciate them even more nowadays rarely see one on the road and if I do they are total rustbuckets. Water always got trapped under all that crome around the wheel wells and rocker panels like many cars of that time and they got eaten up with rust.
Beautiful car. I owned a '74 Monte Carlo Landau. It was stock with a 350 2-barrel. It was pretty gutless but it drove smooth and straight. For a car its size, it got pretty bad mileage. The '75 was a big improvement because they could pump out more power and let the catalytic converters clean up the exhaust. The '74 was the last year to NOT have catalytic converters.
Where I’m from we call this the mythical beast. The last one I seen in the city was metallic grey with black stripes. All factory. He brings it out maybe 2wice a year.
I miss the days when you could pick these cars up for under $3000 used still in good condition. This car is nice, but they want way more than I'd be willing to pay for a 47 year old car.
A friend of mine had a brand new 74 Monte when we were in high school. Back then I viewed this model as a little too big and more luxo than sporty. Looking at this car today though, especially in black and with those wheels, it looks really cool. I like the detailed and honest description you give of your cars.
74 Monte Carlo was my first car. I bought mine in November 1978, I graduated college in December 1978 & started my first job Jan 2,1979. Mine had the stock 350 V8, but it ran down the road really smooth. Of course now I wish I had kept mine, they don't make'em like they did in the 60's and 70's any more.
Great video, Jay. What a car. Glad to hear the 70s are getting hotter. I bought a 71 Corvette from your brother back in the late 90s. Great car. Had it for a few years and sold it through Volo. These guys are great.
Parents bought one of these new in '74. Think they paid around 4 thousand something for it. Kind of a light blue with white landau vinyl roof. Sharp looking for the time. Did develop rust issues eventually (NJ weather). Behind the wheel wells were especially bad.
Cars looked much better back then, like this type of cars make you feel a kind'a way you know? I also love the satisfying sounds when closing and opening compartments on this big bulky boxy styled animals.
Elderly woman, " can I test drive that black Chevrolet? " Hard of hearing salesman. " sure. " 1 hr later ......... Hard of hearing salesman, " well Mrs. Jones? " Mrs. Jones, " four door? " Hard of hearing salesman, " you got it Mrs. Jones, 454 ! "
Yes she's a beauty my grannie had a silver one but not sure what year had a 350 she let me drive it guys use to love to race me with it. It would scream loved that car ...
I had a '71 right after high school. Should have treated it better, but what do kids know, lol. Had a marginal quality '77 in my 30s, it got totaled when some ass pulled out of a side street in front of me. My mother had a '73... AFTER I moved out.
Years ago I remember a lady in town had a green one around this year but it had the 454 emblems i think on the bottom of front fenders it may have been a SS.
Beautiful car. I only stopped to view this video because I like this car and it brings back memories. I do avoid Volo videos because they spend so little time on the interior...typically just a quick pan...that's all. I don't know why that is.
Sorry about that Joe, but glad to hear you like the car! It is sweet. 😎 The videos are designed to compliment everything else we post on our website. We do usually include a shot of the dash and front seats. However, we have heard this critique before and will see about trying to maybe work in another b-roll shot of the interior. Maybe of the back seats/headliner.
Guy I know had one of these 74 Montes with a 350. One night he got ripping drunk and wanted to drive around looking for his girlfriend. We took his keys away and he went outside and kicked it full of dents. This is after he already had a DUI.
@@johnmancuso3857 yep i checked after i wrote it,i know the in the early 70:s manufacters were keeping the horse power down because of the insurance companys,im sure the 454 big block in that monte carlo horse power is rated low and that car was a heavy boat, the 454 is neat but its just a gas hog in a car like that, never thought i would see a 1974 monte carlo with a so so interior trying to sell it for 38000,ouch good luck

This Monte Carlo body style is so underrated. Love the color combo and that pinstriping too
Not really back in its day many were sold its competition was the Chrysler Cordoba and Grand Prix. Whats rare is finding a 454 in one of theses.

I owned a 74 and i didnt even know that they put a big block in the 74.
Another great vid Jay.👍
The 454 was available through 1975.
Yeah the only ones I ever seen had 350s in them.
Beautiful, i had the '73 with the super fly front end and swivel seats.

I love this car! My Mom had one of these. Gold body with the black top. I learned to drive in it. What I wouldn't give to be able to drive one again.
Beautiful car, my favorite Monte Carlo body style, my dad had a gray and maroon 76’ Monte Carlo it was a beautiful car.
I agree with you about the body style . Best year was this one
Nice Monte Carlo! The only thing missing is buckets and a console! My guesstimate is $34,995.00
