- This Is What Happens When A BMX Rider Tries To Ride A Dirt Jumper For The First Time! Matty Cranmer rides a GT La Bomba on his backyard skatepark ramps and he attempts a few different tricks including a barspin, a 360, and a tail whip but it turns out that riding the bigger bike is much harder than expected and he kept getting stuck in the back tire and he has the skid marks to prove it!
CAN'T SLOW DOWN Shirts Here! www.cantslowdow...
You absolutely need to invite Sam Pilgrim over to the US and ride some jump bikes!
Yes 1000 times to this!
Sam pilgrim aka fishhead
Thatd be sick. Or atleast the tall order boys imagine Kieran and Matty in a game of bike;)
@@johnsonjay60 hapened allready :D
@@sajmon_mtb9612 recently? Kieran came?
I’m a life long mtber. Been watching this channel religiously since Scotty tailwhipped the half pipe, despite never riding bmx or planning to since I have a dirt jumper. You cannot wipe the smile off my face whenever you guys do a MTB video! Just like bmx, mtb can be customized to fit the rider and I imagine that if Matty were to build one up he would quite enjoy doing all his favourite tricks on it :) This video made my day!
I’ve been watching for what I think is 9 years now. Haven’t touched a bmx bike or a mountain bike the entire time except for the first year I watched. Don’t think I’ve missed a video
same
Matty follows a lot of Red Bull Riders, Emil Johansson ect, always active on their posts I see him all the time. Watched Scotty for 6 years now, he got me back into riding
@@Mcfc2Rich yeah for sure! Also they clipped semenuks manny flip so they know what’s going on in mtb.
Crankworx's Whistler is next month!
As a long-time bmx rider turned mtb/dirt jump rider, I think riding a dirt jumper on small skate park ramps is no fun. Everything is so much harder. With that said, once you get on some bigger jumps, 5+ foot take offs, the dirt jumper is amazing. Tailwhips are much slower and take more effort, and i have to bus the barspins around to keep the wheel from dropping, but everything just feels so much better on the dj on bigger jumps. Ride your air bag set up on it and you'll fall in love
Facts that skate park looks like 0 fun on a dirt jumper I mean their literally meant to get air not Be low to the ground 😂
@@SteezyVlogs my dj is a ton of fun at the sk8pk, it all depends on what you're used to. Watch the top slope style guys, they kill it on any transition.
Suspension is there for a reason! The weight of the bike is designed for the compression and preload of the front end when you go off ramps! Cool to see you guys always trying new things!
As a Dirt Jump rider myself i loved seeing Matty trying it out and deciding to build one up for himself!
However the forks have travel for a reason and should not be locked unless you're riding a pump track
Usually it should be set up in a way that it will use half of its travel max on a normal/harder hit and will only bottom out when you land really flat
More experienced riders can also use the rebound to pop even higher out of transitions and some suspension will also help with hitting your butt haha
locking out the sus defeats the whole point! Hope they make another video using the DJ properly
I ride a Banshee Scratch on 24" and have a locking fork also... and I 95% of the time have it locked. From skateparks to street to some smooth trails, I really think its a preference thing, but I only open it for some bumpy trails or blasting down stairsets. I have a Marzocchi Mz Race from like 10 years ago (not even for jumping lol) and still holds like the first day hahaha.
As from the video, I would love to see Matt trying to manual the DJ. I can manual a bit on bmx (as I ride one too) but on the DJ its a lot harder for me, because you have to get the front wheel so much higher to maintain balance.
@@kevinbarrio I don't think these guys understand the benefit of rigid forks and have been spoiled by suspension lol
Blow the forks out locking them
@@CaptainCook7859 This.
i'd like to see matt and the guys have a go with a 24" street trials bike, like an inspired arcade or fourplay, be interesting to see how the bmx skills cross over
I don't know how Matt hasn't tried a 24" yet, I feel like he would be an amazing trials rider.
@@Treyorrrr even if not a trials bike I'm surprised he hasn't at least tried out the Sunday model c 24" bmx I absolutely love mine and struggle to pick between the BMX and DJ (both 24" wheel)
scotty had such insane bike control I always wanted to see him try it before the accident because he probably would have been incredible.
I can't wait for Matty to take a custom dirt jumper to the trails. And like everyone says, don't lock the fork.
“We’re not going to pretend that we know any thing about this bike”.
Scotty; “it’s gotta be for a foot jam”.
Lol 😂
Matty : it is now 💪
Lol 😂 right!!
Manitou actually reversed the crown on their dirt jump forks for foot jams.
I was about to comment about Brandon Semenuk and his bmx type tricks he's brought into MTB when matty brought him up and you guys played the clip. LOL love it!
I've been riding dirt jumpers for a long time and absolutely love them! You get used to getting your butt out of the way. Love the videos guys! Your MTB buddy, JJ.
No you don't!
@@richardhcarter yeah you do… literally only took me like 5 mins to stop hitting my butt on my wheel 😂
Dude absolutely love the support you 2 have for each other. Brotherly ❤️ at it’s best.
Dj bikes are not meant to be jumped with the forks locked out. That is for pedaling back uphill. The geometry of the frame need the suspension to move. That’s why your hitting your butt so much.
The "it's ok Matty knows how bikes work" aged like milk in this video 🤣
omg yes!!!! been wanting this video for years!!!! more dirt jumping videos!!!!!!!111 lil tip you can put the seat up so the rear of the seat should be lvl with the top of the rear tire and that i find is the perfect seat spot don't get your but eaten from the rear tire its also better for pinching the seat with your legs makes the bike feel more stable in the air but still low enough that it dont feel to high up its not in the wayhtly
Instead of locking out the forks, on a DJ. Bike I recommend going 2 clicks stiffer than you would on a standard MTB. Obviously measure out your slack and then add 2 clicks this will help a lot with scraping your butt.
Clicks only make it slower, not stiffer. It can help though, depending on how you like it to react.
You need to put a lot of air pressure in it or put in a stiffer spring in if your fork is really old to actually get it stiffer.
@@muifly4892 I understand that. I’m sure they’re aware how to adjust a shock so I don’t go into detail, but adjusting your lockout generally gives you more or less travel. My explanation is definitely lacking but I also just got off work lol.
@@6973chris2 haha, i feel you. It's midnight here and I'm really tired..
Some of us prefer rigid forks though
@@MDM1992 rigid is cool, but locked out isn't rigid but compression set to max which makes slow and very weird to ride.
Same thing the other direction. 😂 Coming from the dirt jumper, bmx felt so "tippi"! I was always afraid of looping out, front and back 😅
So muh fun to see Matt trying out all these different biking disciplines. Your channel made me by a bmx at are 35. 4 years later I've decided that a dirtjumper was more to my liking. But I do miss the bmx a little bit, just couldn't afford/justify both. That said, I'm really happy with the dirtjumper!
P.S. I have that fork and it really locks out, but without damaging the fork. Gives tiny amount suspension locked out if you land harsh. Personally I prefer it 1-2 clicks from locked out. But I don't jump smoothly like a bmx:er and could loose 20 pounds without looking ripped..
I wish Matty could try @mattJones play ground or have Matt ride their place 🤘
"that's nuts".....truer words never spoken scotty
Nice! Been waiting to see what new type of bike Matty would get into next. Perfect dirt jumpers! Put the bike on some big dirt jumps! Awesome vid! Thanks!
Killer set up. I wish I had all this at my house. Thanks for video.
omg i was waiting so long for this moment!!! @Matty please get a 24" bmx bike for a ride! hugs from "Brazil with s" lol
3 things, 1st, im happy to see matty finally ride a dirt jumper! 2nd put BMX grips on it! And 3rd, you never want to lock out the fork because it can blow out the damper but run really high PSI. I have a pike DJ fork and run 200psi
And to prevent yourself from hitting your ass on the backtire, put the seat up more. Also lower rise bars help with barspins and other tricks!
Thank you for these awesome videos! Old 80s kid here just getting back into riding
Been waiting to see you guys ride DJ bikes forever. Give it some time, would make for great content. Quit locking it out though, that’s for pump tracks. I moved to a DJ a long time ago and love it! It’s like adulting off of a BMX
Sam pilgrim makes riding a dirt jumper at a skatepark look simple. This gives me a whole new respect for him knowing how talented Matty is.
Pills makes riding junkers at a skatepark look simple, the dude is awesome with anything on wheels.
Matt after throwing a barspin, 360, suicide, footjam, clearing spine on MTB - "I don't think I'm cut out for this" lol
I used to ride a 26" small sized hard tail with full derailer set up back in the early 2000's after BMX racing , jumping and street for years growing up.
It was mainly for commuting and occasional trail rides and light street. "Bunny hops stairs etc."
The first time I took it to some serious BMX trails I cased a double in the warm up section and bent the fork ,head tube and front wheel.
So back to a 20" I went.
Now that I am 47 yrs old I have a hardtail mtb for exercise and quite time.
But I'd be fibbing if I said that I haven't Googled MTB DJ bikes about a thousand times, I also think the SE line of wheelie bikes are super cool as well.
Cheers
love mountain bikes, i always wanted matty to learn mtb; so much more flow on a mtb, and you can go anywhere compared to bmx, just so much bigger hits, and the flow is really what i want to see him learn and feel, just how it feels like street to dirt is all connected, where it feels to sketchy on a bmx, to just flow and ride anywhere; keep it up mtb is the best
Yes!! Didn’t even watch it yet n I’m excited!!!!
Per the intro discussion: getting your junk wedged into the rear tire = "the ol' pickle stretcher". (obviously not literal but it's endearing and funny as hell) Oh, and as rad as Semenuk is, Emil Johanssen is doing things I genuinely believe other riders are simply not capable of yet. I genuinely feel he will be the first to to a 360 to 360 back. He's already the most ambidextrous rider in the world and is doing tricks like tailwhip to oppo 360 down whip (and usually a barspin thrown in for good measure).
Was a great laugh! Btw the suspension is there for a reason 😂
This video made me miss my old dirt jumper, such a fun bike to ride!
man i'ts so good you're shining light on some of the different disciplines of bicycling, specially one so close to my heart
there's nothing quite like spending a day in the woods sending it, building was great too! you should spend a day at some jumps if somewhere has a dig day
10:03 ‘a hole different view’ 🤣
"Swiped the credit card on the tire", I almost spit out my pistachios on the screen LOL
One of your funniest videos!!! Keep it up
Best video of the day for sure! 😂😂😂😂
OMG I love it this was great! I am dead AF!
4:39 Matt digging in his butt. AAA+ content 10/10 would cringe again 👍🏻🤣 Still love u guys tho! 🔥
Excellent!
Thanks.
Ryan Nyquist rode one or two seasons im FMB World Tour and he was veeeery succesfull 😉 So maybe Matty will try for fun:D
It was awesome to watch him transition to a sport around the time I started following it, gave me a familiar face to watch.
Don't lock the fork on a mtb...that should go without saying 😅 cool to see Matty try so many different things!
Great video guys! i'm an MTB guy but been watching you since the bmx olympics. MTB jump bikes are so much fun, but you defo need to get your setup right as Matty has demonstrated. After yesterday's video with Matty riding the bmx complete off the shelf i was surprised that he didn't raise the seat height a bit on the jump bike. You should get some other BMX guys who ride MTB on the show like Matty's rival mr Nyquist and play a game of MTB :D keep up the great work!!
Get Matty a down hill bike !!!
You nearly ended up like Santa on Boxing Day! Sackless
Such a hilarious episode 😂
Love the videos Scott! I would love to see Matty ride switch foot one day. It seems to be the new barspin.
watching and learning here in Brazil😌✌🏿 🇧🇷
BEST.....VIDEO.....EVER!!!!!
frames a medium stickers still on the frame boys on the seat tube keep up the good work
Put a 1970 banana seat on it! That will solve the problem with a stylish approach! 😆
I’ve been waiting for a DJ video!!!
4:54 LMAO foot jam device
This has been a great video to watch - I am torn between even keeping my bmx bikes now that I have gotten so used to riding my DJ in skateparks. I'm not a spinny trick, peg sliding kind of rider and I find that my dj is better all around (park, jumps, pump tracks, street) and on any wall 4 foot or bigger spins and airs just as well. I am 6'2 and weigh 250 though so there is that....
"Swiped the credit card on the tire" - LOLOL.
this was rad! we need more Dj bike videos!!
That bike is so light too! My brother has one and it absolutely shreddddds
What helped me with my dirtjump bike is raising the seat up very similar to how he has his bmx bike this way you butt will hit seat before it hits tire buzz…hopefully you guys can come to grom dad road 2 rocvery jam next weekend…matty should take my dirtjumper through the dirtjump line!
Please take the dj to the dirt jumps Matt will have far more fun and will actually get to experience the bike for what it’s made for
Run 24" wheels instead of the 26's, it will give you a little more ball room and better on the ramps
It’s a dirt jumper meant to get air not to go low on skate park like they were riding to actually have fun you need to hit trails
you should try a 29er would be interesting
Very entertaining haha. More videos on this bike. Maybe hit up some dirt jumps
If Matt builds a dirt jumper, he is going to have such a steep learning curve on it. I've gone the other way around and once you get used to switching back and forth, the felt difference between the bikes gets smaller and smaller
Dope! Take it to dirt and you'll fall in love...bring that mtb back!
😆 Love you guys!
I bought one of these a couple years ago and it doesn't see a whole lot of action. I'd love to see you guys ride more, maybe it'll inspire me. 😁
I LOVED this video please take the GT to some Dirt Jump spots. Matt's a natural
At 04:54 Scott is actually right. Manitou is the only brand that puts the crown of the fork on the backside instead of the front for footjam tricks.
I think this is a joke, but they actually do it to make the fork stiffer. I find forks with a crown on the front side much easier to footjam
Yeah they claim it’s stiffer that way, not actually for footjams.
Nothing to do with footjams. It's for stiffness. They've done it for years.
Pace/DT Swiss do/did as well
Use the fork next time.😂 Matty taking one for the team.
LOVE YOU SCOTT🥰
i cant wait to see this, i love dirt jumpers
thats a nice one too like skills with phils one he rarely rides.
Dope video. But I can’t stop thinking about Cory having to do an over ice on the bank extension
Hey Scotty I see a new specialty seat design in the future for such an application .
Also would like to say you are looking and sounding great these days keep up the good work buddy.
Loved it! Drew Bezanson switched to mtb too in the past. Shouldn't be to hard for matt to switch.
Matt's gonna become Madeline if he keeps hitting the tire haha
Tuck no hander Matty should have brought a cup 😂😂😂
BMX and MTB, both really fun!
Lmao you guys are so hilarious 😭🤣😂😪👍
FINALLY! The dream has come true. Next step is Crankworx. Also don't lock the fork while riding
Im starting the video. But inmidiatly. He needs another kind of forks. That ones have too much travel. More like goin down hills than street ride. Now i continue jaja Love the content as always
Here in Argentina we supplement the 100mm travel ones to make them 80mm. That helps a lot
Also.. now its his time to do tricks with an hydraulic brake.. why doesny he has one??? Ok i continue now jaja
yo this video made my day lol sorry matt lol
The GT la Bomba Pro has Manitou Circus Expert forks the frame Is drilled for gyro and has integrated chain tensioners double wall rims GT Power series cranks Spank Spoon 785, Alloy handlebars FSA headset 160mm disc brakes GT pivotal seat Kenda 3-Sixty 2.35" tyres Euro Sealed bottom bracket 🚲💨
I love the GT La Bomba, personally I think it’s too long for Matty, he should look at getting a short Marin Alcatraz 👌🏽 And if he doesn’t get on with the La Bomba I’ll take it off your hands and put it to good use 😉
No better place to test a DIRT JUMPER than on CONCRETE lol
😜Grazie Matty x aver sacrificato le tue due palle x noi🤕✌️
Great vid
Let’s see some more of Matty on the big wheels
I have rode bmx for 30 years and just built my very first custom Dirt Jumper!
Great video.Yeah love jump bike.
we need a Pilgrim Cranmer linkup!!!
You guys should hit up Nyquist, he did slopestyle on the dirt jumper a few years ago (and did REALLY well!).
Mountain bike matt has fresh new sound
Those manitou forks feel the best with fully open compression but max psi. Also I may have missed it in the vid but you should definitely put a hydraulic brake on the rear
That bike was kicking Matty's butt...... _literally!_ 😅
Plz do a video of ya riding dirt jumps on a dj bike because that would be hella amounts of coolness
Awesome, hope to see some more MTB content! Can we get Corey to try the DJ bike please!?
You guys NEED to try to make that paddle boat in the dumpster into a bike. It'd be an awesome project for Matt's welding
Supper sick video, always love you watching you Scotty but in my experience have a little suspension i at the bike park is really cushy and feels supper smooth give it a try Matty, appreciate you have a goodnight!
Great video as usual. Please ride some actual dirt jumps.
