I’ve worked at a car dealership for 39 years, I can’t tell you how many times customers called or stopped in to ask about a recall that we had no idea existed. Recalls, while annoying, are actually a good thing for everyone, the customer gets a better product and the manufacturers learn from their mistakes.

To be fair all aluminum jump frames eventually crack at the head tube if they're ridden hard and often. I only ride steel jump bikes now because I smashed some teeth out from a frame snap

Aluminum softens too. Most aluminum frames are only good for one race season, after that you can feel the loss of stiffness.

You're pretty good at those dirt jumps!
In 2012, I rented a mountain bike - a GT Sensor. I liked it so much, when I got home I found one and bought it. Years later, sold it to a friend and then got a 2019 aluminum version (the Sensor Comp) and still ride it to this day. I've since replaced almost everything except the headset bearings, cranks and rear derailleur - I've upgraded everything to my liking in that time. I've essentially converted mine into a lightweight enduro bike. The bike has never let me down, love the durability of it's aluminum construction, it's easy to work on (especially the eventual suspension bearing replacements) and GT online customer service is actually very responsive (they told me about some inexpensive bearing pressers to do my suspension work with). You don't see many on the trails, as it's a bit under the radar, but well worth checking out as a true 'trail-bike' that can really take a beating.

GT (Gary Turner) began as primarily a BMX bike brand. I think they were sold to one of those big conglomerate bike groups in the early 2000's. They had success with Enduro bikes in the mid 90's. I have a GT steel touring bike, and used it as a commuter bike for many years.

My two first "real" bikes were GT a 1986 gt elite BMX that my bros gave me and also my first MTB I got in 1992 a GT Tequesta, the brand was rad as it could be GT was the bikes for cool ppl, made in the USA, when they lost Richard Long the company had no clear direction, very tragic story, things were looking up good with the i-Drive but the corporate hand that acquired them ran the company to the ground with no significant developments and major cuts

My kids have GT bikes, and how I look at them is: They are decent beginner mountain bikes - they've both been riding bicycles less than a year, and I think these bikes are okay for the riding that they do: paved trails, packed dirt, some grass, occasional roll off curbs. They don't know how to bunny hop, J hop or anything like that yet. Once they get more confident in their skills and want to try more aggressive riding, then they will be upgraded to a more robust bike.

That's why I only ride steel on my Hardtails. I ride Bikeparks and Dirtjumps and all stuff, and my frames are holding up strong since 2014 and 2018 under at least three users who raced Enduro on that frame and used to visit stuff like la poma. And my frames look brand new, beside a few scratches. I've heard, that steel bikes are a lot more comfortable too. And if they crack, they won't just snap in half, they would get a small crack and you would feel and hear it all over

Honestly it only takes a couple cracked welds/frames for them to recall. Funny the shop owner said “GT and Cannondale are the same company”. I have a Cannondale cyclocross bike (CADD X) and just by coincidence found out about a recall for the carbon fork where it could fail and one person died using it.
The shop that I bought it from had switched from selling Cannondales to Specialized bikes and told me that the Cannondale rep no longer returned their phone calls so they couldn’t help me.
I found a Cannondale dealer not too far from where I live and spoke to them. They agreed to replace the fork but wanted over a hundred dollars labor to install it.
After much haggling with Cannondale they convinced the shop to honor the recall gratis but it took 6 months to get it done. (Actually the fork was shipped to the dealer in 5 months but they never contacted me until I called and found that they had the fork sitting there for a month.
It seems to me that the holding company that owns these brands is selling sketchy products that have a lot of problems I know that a lot of carbon Cannondale mountain bikes were notorious for broken chain stays and seat stays.

I did buy my wife a rocky mountain bike this past winter for Christmas, a few runs in and I am as pleased as she is with it, they appear to be a good company as well. I have recently done a video on my GT bike I own, it's a hard tail. I think it's a decent bike for what it is and my complaints about it is mostly the dropper seat post and the coil fork. Opps my bad, I missed that when I was comparing too many bikes. etc. The frame seams ok and I had no Idea cannondale owned GT. I know back in the day GT was a bike to have and that company had sold. Interesting to see cannondale owns them now. Thanks for sharing and keep us posted on your new bike brother.

Sad fact- GTs crack. I've had 3, and they all eventually cracked, seat tube, rear suspension, etc.

Oh dang, now I’m very happy I only got it for 300

@@MattyActive yep, great ride and super light but it is too thin for the high stress areas. I have an older I Drive 2.0 and it cracked the tubing right above the BB. It is a great trail bike otherwise. It is a full suspension and cracked when my 250lb son rode it off a curb while sitting down.

Did You get the replacement frame? Iam in Europe and iam waiting since they announced the Recall. We dont even get any Info when it will be replaced. At the beginning i was realy positive and thought mistakes can Happen but after waiting all the month without Feedback i would Not buy a GT again. The la Bomba is amazing but If they treat customers Like that...

This is going to hurt the bottom line of Cannondale/GT big time but it's still better than losing their reputation.

Just an FYI, you pronounce it as 'la bomber.' It's just that they've spelt it with an 'a' instead of an 'er'.
