Spyderco does a really great job with their steels. They make collecting steels on their knives interesting. Thanks for the testing.
Man you are churning them out, it is so impressive! Your cut video on the Mule team K294 led me down an entire new rabbit hole within the hobby, as I am now trying to figure out how to make my own scales, another thing I have no experience with, probably lack a lot of the necessary tools etc etc. But man is it fun! Thank you for keeping to bring it!!!
Yeah that k294 cut test was freakin nuts
Knathans knives channel shows how he makes them in his garage . Good stuff . There’s lots of different scales on Etsy too .
I love my Spyderco Para 3 LW. with SPY27,...had mine nearly 2 years,..used it a good amount and it'll still slice paper.
Great review!!!
I've been wanting a PM3 LW in SPY27 just to have the "Spyderco-iest Spyderco" and man, I am super impressed. For this being not being a SupEr sTeeL, it really freaking performs well. I wouldn't mind to see this become Spyderco's new standard steel.
Dude! I’m a newer subscriber and gotta say your content is great!
Thanks man, welcome!
You've got me wanting to try a para 3 again lol...that was my only experience with one and there was clearly an issue with it, which def jaded my view on it...
For a strop you can leave in your car or at work: Glue a piece of basswood to the inside of the lid of an Altoids tin! Just put some compound on it and you’re good to go. Mine is a year old and counting.
Yea good idea
Great review,..amazing retention!!
Now I know the true story on my Spyderco Para 3 light weight,..thank you my Brother🗡🗡🗡
Pulled the trigger on my 1st spyderco, a para 3 in spy27 and g10.
Hell yes!
@doodysdaggers Can't wait. You think I should go with the AWT agent skinny scales too? Or maybe just leave the 1st one alone?
Thanks, another great cut test!
Great cut test, thanks! Spyderco has mastered working with all kinds of steels and their edges are insane.
Nice video! Bummer on the strop, I’ve heard spy27 takes to a strop very well. Have a great day😊
Nice brother! I grabbed the mule team cuz been wanting to try this steel and super impressed! Guess the k294 next!👊
Good video, have you done a cut test on S45VN yet? I'm curious as I have the para military 2 in that steel. Keep em coming Doody. Thanks
A while back on a PM2, yes I have. It did great from what I remember
I’ve been enjoying my Manix 2 in Spy27 but I haven’t put it through its paces. Seems pretty good!
Man I have been waiting for this!!!! I don’t have much experience with it but I just might have to get some more Spyderco’s!!! Damn it
“As clean as a whistle” whistles: one of the dirtiest objects filled with spit and germs
Haha yeah wonder where the fuck that came from
My native 5 in spy27 has been real impressive haven't sharpened it yet but it stropped up real easy,it's a little laser
I hope to see more knives in this steel! It’s got their name on it and everything. I have a Native 5 LW in this steel (seemingly their favorite little test platform outside of the Mule Team knives). I’ve gotta take that guy out more…
Spyderco kills it again.
What one do you prefer, the para 3 LW or the native 5 LW?
Native 5
I found a small strop on Amazon, smaller than the regular rectangle ones and it fits perfectly in my glove box. Now I don’t need to bring one with me or worry if i forget the larger one.
i've had 100s of knives. production, midtech, customs. for bang for buck and a heat treat you can rely on Spyderco knows what they are doing. I'd recommend a para3 for a one and only knife to anyone
I just got a LW native chief and...wow, it's noticeably the sharpest knife I've ever had. And I have pretty much at least one knife in every "super steel" you can think of. I had to order a manix in spy27 to see if it's just the geometry of the native chief. As he said, there's something up with this steel. At least at first blush it's definitely in a higher tier than s30/35/45. This might be a steel that's getting overlooked because people lumped it in with s30/35 and those were thought to be surpassed by Magnacut. I mean, maybe Spyderco is just "extra" careful about sharpening stuff with spy27 from the factory, but it's noticeable.
This steel needs to be looked at more. It's almost reminding me of m4. It behaves at a higher level than its chemical composition would suggest. I also have a TRC in vanadis 4e coming that I may test along side it.
I gotta ask, how many gloves do you go through at work? and what are you doing to them to wear ‘em out so fast? Lol great video, keep it up!
A lot. I’m a welder. The threads always get burned up and then the gloves fall apart
Good test, Doody. I like the AWT scales you put on it-what color are they if you know offhand?
I think just black? I’m not sure, I got them secondhand
I think they are getting better with their drop shut action while being totally solid. I have a pm2 from last year and it’s solid af and drops fast.
It seems like it huh!
Eric Glesser sort of described this as magnacut light. Good at all three things, toughness, edge retention, and corrosion resistance.
Spyderco does a good HT,has variety of steels and that's about it.Spyderco lock is weak even Manix2 is not strong enough. If you will cut the card boards or bread or anything like that then it's fine but if it comes to the wilderness where the toughness of lock is crucial I would rather go with the Cold steel. I wish the Cold steel would start to use Cru wear steel, however they started making Recon 1 in Magna cut
Thanks bro I just ordered one.
Probably has a burr around the detent hole giving it a pop when the detent breaks making it snappy AF. No bad thing.
Sisal rope appeared in the 16th century. Then it was brought from South America. The name comes from the port of Sisal in Mexico, although it is made from Ogawa.
They actually took VG10 as a base and increased the amount of carbon, also added niobium, nickel not sure about nitrogen. The specialty of niobium is in the hardest carbides, but it’s strange that they were named after Cobalt, which was originally in VG10 steel. It seems the marketers decided that 27 sounds better than 41.
Interesting, thanks for the info
Never tried Spy27. Very nice. Poor Cecil is probably upset thinking he was anonymous there😉. I’ve got something coming here later this month I think you will like to take a look at. Will shoot ya a message when I get it.
Right on!
Looks like it did pretty good
Sweet good edge retention. Hadd to beat spyderco
Yep it's designed by spyderco, it's like a s35vn, it's more edge stable then any s35vn I've ever played with as well as out cut any s35vn I've ever tested as well. It's a very lovely steel to sharpen, I dislike s35vn but I very much have liked spy27 since I got it when it came out in the mule. Overall it's a damn solid mid range powder steel and I personally would take it over s35vn or s45vn any day of the week. I still perfer Goldens s30v more then it but it's an all around better steel then s30, 35, 45 I just like the aggression that well done s30v has over it. Keep it 600g or less and spy27 is a damn solid performer.
Man those AWT scales make a knife come alive don’t they?
Absolutely
Warncliffs are not very versatile.
It's sisal not Cecil lol
(I didn't know until I Googled)
a strong white fiber used especially for cordage and twine
called also sisal hemp
a widely cultivated Mexican agave (Agave sisalana) whose leaves yield sisal
I'm late broski🤙
Better late than never 😁
Wood isn’t hard on edges? Um you need to try locust then, if you need I’ll send you a hunk…. It sparks when you cut it on table saw……. Nuff said
Yeah man send it! That would be cool to test knives on
@@doodysdaggers sweeeeeet Id love to! If there is any others you think you would like let me know I prolly have it or can get it.
Gotta love those Spyderco heat treats and blade geometry! I had been questioning Spy27 and after seeing this I will definitely be happy to get some of that in the collection!
By the way, were you ever able to get your hands on some CTS-XHP to test? If not I have a Para 3 with it I’d be happy to lend out to you for the video.
Yes on the Swayback! It did very well
