Early 1960s PUMA knives are my favorite. Lord knows, while stationed in Landshut for two years, I was able to purchase several really great knives including the WHITE HUNTER which is my favorite. Thank you so very much, great video. I only wish RAMBO was armed with a PUMA instead of those over grown "bone crushers". Just my thoughts on the subject.
Thank you so much! Your English was perfect to teach me the history of the White Hunter and many different facts about the knife. I sincerely commend you for doing the video in English when you didn’t have to! Excellent insight into the knife and its history. Again, Thank You so much!
👍 I purchased my very first fixed blade knife in 1967, it was a Puma White Hunter. I have owned this knife for 55 years. In many ways it looks like a knife designed by a committee. But for a large fixed blade (6 inches is large for me) it does work very well as an all around camp knife. I probably will never sell it. Thank you for your interesting review of your friend’s White Hunter.
Almost exactly what I did. I found it too large and ground it down.

Fantastic video!
I’ve read some other English language reviews and watched some other videos but thank you for this very German perspective on a truly iconic knife.
Great video! I’m watching from the American Midwest, where many Germans settled and became farmers. I’ve ran into puma knives many times interacting with fellow deer hunters. My grandad has one aswell, but not the white hunter model. I was laughing a bit watching; you and your friend both look like you’d fit in completely in my area, even though Germany is way across the Atlantic haha
I bought mine in the mid 70's and says made in W Germany. I also have a Puma Bowie from 1967 and says made in Germany. I love both knives. Thanks for posting.
thx for your comment and watching!
I had a Kiwi staying with ne and my first wife back in the early
1970s and as I was a fan of decent blades asked me what I would advise him to buy
I said a Puma but he could not find one in Leeds He hitched to London 400 mile round trip and bought one I was envious as I could not afford one myself Anyway he later hitched all the way overland to India and got back home to N Z and managed to keep it despite several border crossings You can very easily have them taken from you nowadays
I have a buffalo skinner marked west germany too ! Some cool history in those pieces
I have a puma skinner made in 68 still in the box with the sticker of temper still on it never been used or sharpened awsome vid
I recently acquired the White Hunter by luck (swop for another knife) and I have a Puma Bowie (wood handle) that I bought in the 1970's and has done many backpacking/bushveldt trips with me in S Africa. I bought the Bowie and spent some time worrying about the cost but the knife is still with me in good nick after over 40 years later, an excellent investment for the work it has done for me. Also in my collection a bone handled Puma Trail Guide which I inherited from my late father in law. The White Hunter is unique, and it attracts immediate attention from knife lovers but I have yet to use it in the bushveldt.
@@victorrossomano5025 Dis baie mooi what jy se maar ek het geen idea waarvan jy praat.
@@russel2352 He says, if your Puma Bowie is model number 6376, then you‘ve got a very special knive indeed.
I can read Afrikaans, but not write it :-)
@@svenhulsebus6200 Thank you. Nee, my Puma Bowie mes is n model 6396 met hout handvatsel. No Sir, my Puma Bowie is a model 6396 with wooden handle. Nevertheless I regard it as special. I thank you for your interest and assistance. BTW, I am S African born ( SA English) but speak Afrikaans fluently.
People will enjoy this video forever, great job and great piece
Put a little flatter bevel on the smooth cutting edge, and it will shave wood with less pressure, and will make cleaner cuts.
My father gave me a puma skinner for my 10th birthday. I use it all the time, it my go to knife. I think I'll give my son a a White Hunter when he turns 10.
The puma skinner and puma trail guide are my favorite designs.
I've never owned the Puma W.H. but looks like a good design.
had no idea there was so much history, just seen people fawn over them as a grail knife for their collection and liked the design a lot
I have a 6375 White Hunter that my uncle gifted me in the early 90’s about a year before he passed away. It’s one of my prize possessions.
Very, very cool. Germans have such good taste and they certainly know how make a hunting knife.
Great knife. I own both the White hunter and the "auto messer" Both from the seventies. Legends! Thanks for showing mate.👍
Thank you for english, best emotions and point of view. You are cool knifeman in Germany! Best wishes!
This Puma White Hunter has one of the best blade shapes ever had been created. The biggest problem with this knife is most of the time sold out. The forge knife manufactur in Solingen Germany obviously resists the opportunity to sacrify the quality to produce higher number of pieces. Unfortunatly the price is a little bit high.
love love that knife
Thanks for showing. I didn’t realize the white hunter was so small. I think I’ll go with the Buck 124 for now.
Many of the Classic Bushcraft guys like Nessmuk and Kephart found blades longer than 5 inches did not give them the working control they needed for skinning game, processing the smaller diameter wood they used for fires or for carving tools that were helpful to them in camp.
They're a great versatile blade, I have a '71 6377 in stag & a '72 6399 with jacaranda wood. Hope you show your other two.
Iv got the 6377 too
My uncle gave it to me
Do they still make them?
@@peterlokin4098 6377 model number I don't think so, pretty sure it's now 6375 in stainless steel. The same knife essentially but in stainless.
@@peterlokin4098I have a 6275 from 1984 also gifted to me from my late Uncle! My favorite knife and honestly one of my favorite possessions
just bought a pre-64 model white hunter and wondered what the wood was, thanks
If any one can help i have one number 72172 i can't find the year. No serrations and the sheath is more square
You have to read the number right to left. It‘s made 2/71, so Apr-Jun in 1971
Hallo
Do they still make it,and where in Germany is Puma located??
@Chico Corleone thanks!!
yes... they still manufacture it in solingen, germany
Ahhh Solingen. The city of knives. I'd like to visit someday.
Find a Sea Hunter and a revue.
It‘s too short. You would want a knife with a length of at least half the diameter of the game‘s chest to reliably cut the heart
Tattoo japanese letters in your arm....your heritage has nothing to do your Japan....get it straight

I have a 6377 from 1975. Can’t sell it as I usually would through eBay or gumtree due to the knife laws. Contact me if you’re interested in buying it. Cheers.
