Good job, May want to buy a crow’s feet wrench 3/4 to crack & tighten the injector lines. I found it to be a lot more easier and plus u don’t disturb the the return lines. Also may want to drain the tanks and dump fresh diesel along with diesel additive. Congratulations on your Squarebody truck!!!
Just a suggestion from someone who owned one of those trucks for 13 years if you time the injection pump with a 2 degree advance and open the exhaust system to a 3 inch pipe and free flowing mufflers it will add a tremendous amount of performance it’s not turbocharged but it will run way better than stock
If you haven't got the ol thing running yet I have found those little electric fuel pumps at AutoZone don't do it enough for the 6.2 I'd get one with 10 to 12 psi but nothing more then that without a pressure regulator
😂 Was NOT expecting it to hit a lick . I know I should have disconnected the Glow Plugs etc etc but was just seeing if the pump was getting fuel to injectors during diagnosis. Happy surprise 😂
You can also pinch off the pump return line (the one you have in clear on top of the db2) to stall out the motor if the shutoff isn't working for some reason. It's not instant but it will slow the motor down enough and eventually stall.
May still need a pump, they’ll run but run erratic with a bad injection pump, also I don’t see a high idle solenoid on that pump. Mine would crank and crank till I pumped the pedal a couple times then it’d fire right off.
I can see how that erratic situation would make sense. Did not run long enough yet to find out. It seemed to start without pumping pedal at first. I removed the high idle solenoid in order to remove top of pump.
Seems to be common on all idi trucks. This particular truck had one fuel tank full, and one bone dry. Assume it was the tank selector valve or switch in cab. Will find out.
Had a very similar Scottsdale in high school. I believe it was a 1979 Scottsdale standard shift but a half ton with 350. Loved it. Is this truck for sale?
@@ericgomez3870 showed it in the video. Put inline fuel pump into line that goes from motor to large fuel filter on firewall. There is also another fuel filter on the motor that the fuel still passes thru
@southernrevivalautomotive yea I know this my pops had a van with the 6.2. Mixed relationship . It was great but yea tough to work on for the dogbox. Then later on I salvaged a 6.9 from a econaline . Don't like the vans haa .
A win for Kaitlyn.....nice
Absolutely!! Christmas present runs! Sounded pretty good. Like the sound of the 6.2 idi.
Thanks...awesome truck/video. Hopefully my 6.2 comes out of its slumber soon too
It was great to hear this run. Atleast now we know it is worth putting some time and parts into the 6.2

Love the new build!
Thank you!! It’s a neat old truck. Seems like a lot of the diesel’s were swapped out. Good to find one with it intact. Stay tuned. Buffing it soon.
That's awesome guys
Thank you! Always liked these trucks. Couldn’t be happier with the one we found, the Patina, the Diesel, the documents and being a 4 speed.
“Today I accidentally revive my truck that hasn’t ran in years” 😂 legend

That's fantastic my friend. Great work.
Thank you! Happy to hear it run
This video makes me want to wrench on the 1982 Jimmy that has been sitting in my backyard for 10 years. Great video. Nice diagnostics
Go for it!

@@haraldzurnieden1920 makes sense. Thank you for the info
If that motor doesn’t work out you should put a 3.0L Duramax. It’s something that hasn’t been done and would make great content.
@@ojedasadventurez2875 Not a bad idea . Are those any good?
@@southernrevivalautomotive the 3.0L has been bulletproof for GM. Probably the best engine the made in a long time.
FYI these engines are externally balanced and the balancers often fail due to the rubber dry rotting.
@@theblindredneck747 that makes sense. I like these engines

I had to replace all the soft lines on top of the tanks and tank switch under the truck would not pull fuel from tanks from leakage

It may be at Barrett or Mecum auction later this year.

How do you by pass all the fuel system??

Just start the dam thing lol
haha
Try this in a van have fun
The Vans with idi motors are much tighter to work on. Actually just looked at a 80’s E350 with the 7.3 idi for sale.

That truck is very quadruple dog cursed to not want to start at all
Was just looking to prime the fuel system. Was not looking to start it until it was primed.
@@southernrevivalautomotive ok
What kind of engine is that and what's the mpg?
Original 6.2 L Diesel ... Suspected to get around 20-22 mpg
