One thing that you forgot (unless I missed it) is the new RC2 has an internal cooling fan that helps keeps the processor from slowing and screen from dimming.
and dimensions are different as well rc 1 cases don't fit
Great video. The only thing I disagree with is that I don't think 700 nits is bright enough. I regularly need to shield the screen or try to find shade in order to sufficiently see what I'm doing, and that is with the brightness turned all the way up.
Exactly. One of the reasons I’m returning the RC 2 for the RC N2.
That's the biggest problem with rc2, i have s22± and peak brightness 1200 nits for few minutes then goes down to constant 850 and im struggle to see something in bright sun, cant imagine rc2 with only 700 nits
Brilliant and informative as usual. I do feel that personally I am getting lost in all the DJI releases and then the compatibility issues, its great that they upgrade these items but I do feel they have these upgrades already but like the Apple iPhone model they drip feed to increase profits. I purchased the Osmo Action 3 (which is amazing) only to find that 2 months later the Osmo Action 4 was released. I just wish these big companies would try to facilitate better backwards compatibility, but in reality don't think that will happen.... its all about money it would seem 😞

Gotta say, sold my mini 3 pro and bought the air 3. Been flying it for two days and I have to admit that I was a bit sceptical in terms of how much better it is compared to the mini 3 pro and boy il glad I did the swap. No signal loss at att in 3 km (flying in EU). The 3x zoom opens up the door for a lot of nice shots.
However it's not perfect. A bit fiddly to put in the bag. You can't unbind the zoom scroll wheel so I've gotten a lot of accidental push. I get a constant notification that it can't update the fly-safe data even though I've done it already. I get an issue with it saying that I have to calibrate the controller and it doesn't work.
And one thing that it does worse than the mini 3 pro is that it cuts the grass if you land in grass since the back-side sits very low. Battery time is awesome
All good to know.
TIP:
To extend the RC controller battery life, connect a long USB C cable to the controller charging port and to a backup battery caring it in their pocket.
It also enables to use max screen brightness while the external battery pack keep charging the controller.

The RC 2 has HDMI out🎉. Just plug in a USB-C to HDMI and it auto mirrors the controller screen.
I guess no one has tried because the original didn’t do it.

Mattheww, does losing the host port on the RC2 mean you can't plug in an external microphone anymore? You demonstrated this for recording commentaries a while back and I think you plugged a mic into the Host port. Thanks.
Good question! I have the RC and don't really do any live recordings, but I think I'm gonna pick up one of those cheap wireless mic's and have some fun narrating. Oh boy!

Thanks for the good comparison. I have one question as I fail to find it with my RC2; Where does the RC2 save the screen recording, if you have entered a SD card? For me it always saves the screen recording at the internal storage of the RC2 and not at the SD card, even I defined the SD card as the storage to be used.
Im having the same scenario. Not sure why It will not stay set to the SD card even after formatting in the android settings.

I recently tried the RC2 remote, and honestly, it’s not as great as I expected. Its 700-nit peak brightness is a letdown compared to my iPhone’s 2000 nits. As an Apple user, I find the RC2’s lack of iOS integration frustrating, especially for updates and geo-zone unlocking. It requires constant Wi-Fi connections during travel, which complicates syncing flight logs. Also, if you’re not using joysticks, the remote’s setup can be cumbersome and slow. While the built-in screen and custom buttons are nice touches, they don’t outweigh the drawbacks for me. I’m considering returning my Fly More combo kit for the RCN2 instead, which offers better battery life and suits my preference for stick-less flying, providing more precision and fluid control.

The hot topic seems to be audio for screen recorded narration. Some report the rhode works, it has it/s own power supply, but the non powered types do not ( movo etc.)
The worst thing is that the USB C used for an external mic has disappeared
The existing USB-C port on the RC-2 DOES support USB-C mics and wireless USB-C receivers for screen recording.
Is there any alternative for external mic?

You didn't say one thing. RC 2 supports Display Port, so we can connect an external monitor or AR glasses.

I use the DJI RC with my Mini 3 Pro and sometimes transfer files to an SSD drive that I plug into the controller.
Can this also be done with the RC2?

I still fly the DJI Mini-2 with a DJI Smart Controller, and have never had any range or signal problems. The new DJI Mini 4 Pro is now on my list. A disturbing issue: the original Smart Controller was quite expensive, but DJI have rendered it obsolete as one cannot fly the Mini-3 or 4 with it. The new DJI RC Pro controller (quite expensive too) appears to have replaced the original now 4 year-old Smart Controller. Given that many updates are essentially software changes, I don't really see why the original Smart Controller could not receive a relevant Ocusync update to fly the Mini 3 and 4 drones. The financial loss because of the strongly sales oriented DJI hardware updates can be quite considerable: this needs to be considered carefully prior to any purchase from a longer term perspective. IMO, It makes no sense having to update all the gear every 3 years or so for some minor trickle-down improvements.

New to drones..question..other videos mentioned something about "downloading" the mapped out "area" where you are most likely be flying around?..so you have to do this every time you want to fly?.I thought its like a GPS on cars..where it's active as you "go/fly"..the maps adjust and is already there for you on the go?

Hi, I've got the Mini 3 with the RC controller. After almost a year of flying I've suddenly lost all of the verbal warnings from the controller. It only beeps now and the voice prompts have all disappeared. Looking at the forums, a ton of people have had the same experience and it seems like an issue introduced after a firmware update. Have you come across this issue (yet) and, if so, have you found a solution. Cheers. Great channel by the way.
How about the built in SPEAKER? Did they place it on the front and make it louder? Is there an earphone jack?
Can I please ask if the fold-in antennas click into securely into place on the RC2 like the original RC for Mini 1 RC did? Mine just folds in leaving a tiny gap so they do get moved from position a little when in the carry bag. Thanks

I currently have a Mini 2 with the RC-N1 controller, and I use the Drone Mask 2. I am getting set to upgrade to the Mini 4 pro. I have to decide if I am going to get the RC-N2 or the RC 2 controller. If I get the RC 2 controller, I can't use my Drone Mask. The main reason I got the Drone Mask 2 was so I could see the screen of my phone in daylight. How does the screen on the RC 2 compare to a phone screen? If I stop using the Drone Mask, will I be able to use the RC 2 in bright sunlight, or will I be looking for a shady area to fly from again?
Can I use the USB-C port as a video out port to a video mixer using a USB-C to HDMI cable?
PLEASE help me in clearing up one point which is obviously of minor importance to many. My RC-1 controller disconnects the WiFi connection immediately after takeoff. Does the RC-2 do the same? I fly in an Enhanced Warning area which requires me to comply with certain condition and a WiFi connection is required for me to comply. The process of reconnecting to the internet after takeoff is time consuming and annoying. I therefore use an RC-N controller in preference. Any light on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Awesome comparison Matthew! We all know DJI has the tech to make a occusync 6.0 if they wanted too. But that would be bad for sales, and we would lose interest fast.
These updates are fairly cutting edge. Nobody comes close to DJIs video range/quality for a reason.
New to drones here just bought the dji mini 3 over the weekend. Was planning on taking it to the giants causeway but i see on drone assist there is a yellow restriction box around it as its national trust land. Just woundering if its no fly or if you need permission to fly over the site

At 4:55, you talk about storing “screen recordings” to the SD card. FYI: ALL screen recordings are stored on internal storage and this cannot be changed as of 10/5/23. The screen recordings must be moved in the file system to the SD card as a second step. It is a pain. Even though the DJI FLY app allows changing storage between the internal and the SD card, “screen recording” files are still stored internally. (Side note, audio can be recorded with screen recording file by attaching a USB-C mic to controller port, or a wireless mic with receiver attached to USB-C port. Handy for tutorials)
As of the latest update you can now screen record directly to the SD card. Yay!

Why would they take away the host port from the controller or atleast make it a host port as well as transfering and charging all in one? Im sure thats possible. Your forced to voice record speaking directly to the controller?
As we have lost the host port, does the RC to have a built in microphone as the host port was used for plugging in the microphone to be able to record audio with your screen, recording or will the microphone work with the normal USB C

Hi Matthew, I believe Dji is loosing RC2 sales by making it compatible with the Air 3. Hopefully, as you mentioned, they will do a firmware update that will expand its compatibility to other products like the M3P.

Late comment, but how do you download footage from the drone's microsd straight to the RC2 controller's micro SD card, and not to the default onboard storage. It seems there is no option to have the shot footage go direct from the drone's micros sd to the microsd card slot on the RC2 controller. It would go to the smaller onboard storage as default and no way that i know of to change it to the RC2 controller's microsd card as the new/preferred/default way for future transfers. You will have to move the footage manually via RC2 controller menu to the microsd card and creates a few slow additional steps (bottleneck is transfer speeds and size of files to move over). :/. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance!

The RC2 controller (at least with fly more combo) only comes with one pair of sticks whereas the RC1 controller with fly more combo evidently came with 2 sets of sticks. Hmm...wonder how much a pair of sticks cost DJI? I'm jussayin....
Also downsides of RC style controller.
1) Live maps aren't available with the RC controller (unless you tether the phone to the controller and turn the wifi back on everytime you fly...as the wifi is automatically turned off each time you take off). You have to download offline maps to the controller and you can only download and save map snippets that are ~3MB in size and that ONLY covers a 3mi X 2mi geographic area. That sucks. To get coverage of a metro area you'd have to navigate to the map area you want, download the file covering that area, optionally name it. If you want coverage of a decent size area (metro area) you'd have to download 100's of map snippets and store them on the controller. And the UI for the downloading maps is horrible...try zooming in and out to get the snippet that you want...the UI can do some strange things. It's not good.
2) As far as I know there is no capability to run 3rd party applications or upgrade to more recent versions of Android. Current OS version is based on Android 9. Since it is a "closed system".

Can this RC2 allow mirroring to an alternative screen, either with an HDMI connection or an app loaded onto it as can be achieved with the RC Pro? For me this would be a deal breaker. Hopefully an hdmi connection can be achieved from the ‘C’ port as can be achieved from this port on the RC Pro.
I have the same question and that’s the only reason I am hesitant to get it. From what i found so far, you cannot use the USB for an external monitor. I hope this gets updated by a firmware update

I found that the RC with built in screen took longer to connect and I hate that the sticks are above the screen (bad design imo) - also if you’re using your phone with the standard RC you get updates straight away, and just put it in airplane mode whilst flying! Simple - anyone who still needs to use their phone/get texts etc whilst flying is irresponsible in my opinion

You’ll have to excuse me, cause I was just listening to this in the background, but I heard 😮you say protecting your ports with a cover is not valuable but inconvenient, it’s easier to get. Is that your real opinion or what they pay you to say. Ports get full of dirt, leaves, grass, when I’m out in the woods, weather be 30 minutes five hours or all day.
What I would not give to hear an honest review. They’ll give you that drone regardless.
