  • This is a demo of a 1963 Maytag A700 washer at the "full" water level. I acquired it last summer, but now 7 months later, this is the first time I've hooked it up and used it. No leaks! Needs belts though.

Whoever was the stylist designer for these machines just had a really good eye. They just look right... Clean, simple, correct. Even the tub and agitator are beautiful.

The things I love about the maytags is that they are just beautiful machines... the design is so clean, minimal and elegant. Even the inside of the tub and agitator... It's like the designer said, we want something that just says clean, hygenic, and durable.

My grandma had this exact model. I love the "click" of the timer as it proceeds through the cycle. I thought it was every 60 seconds (each minute - as minutes are displayed on the timer) so I learned something new. My mom always had Speed Queen and they made the same sound - ahhh, memories :-)

My 1976 Maytag washer is still going strong. Replaced the motor at one point, and a fill switch, but that's it. Looks and operates much the same as this one.

My Grandmother had a Maytag the she bought in the early 60s. It replaced her Maytag wringer washer that she and my grandfather bought when they were married in 1925! I remember being afraid of that wringer washer! I think my grandmother's new automatic Maytag was a BOL model. As I recall, temperature selection was determined by where the timer was set. Or maybe it was fill level. I'm not sure, but it was very basic. That Maytag lasted her another 25 years until she died. I think the only thing ever done to it was the replacement of the hoses.

Incredible suspension. The outer casing appears to remain utterly still. The English hotpoints cudnt manage that!! Nice post

When I was young my parents bought a Viking washer it had all the bells and whistles on it including a lighted control panel it was all pushbuttons except the the rotary dial for turning the machine on. We had it for about 14 years when it died.

Speed Queen washers are still built like the Maytag in this video. The new Maytag washers (manufactured by Whirlpool) are 100% JUNK!

Amazing washer still going. Total quality back then now they are all plastic junk except Speed Queen. I had a Maytag in harvest gold sorry I got rid of it for a touchpad GE because I had to have a touchpad machine stupid mistake.

My grandmother had a Maytag washer back in the 80s and never had a problem out of it that I can remember. I now have one that is 3 years old and have constant trouble out of it. I currently can only wash in bulky cycle because in normal, it will sense the clothes, tumble a little and shut off, not coming back on. I have to drain it and lose all the detergent. SUCKS.

Why is it Maytag's with this type of washing action never produced massive amounts of suds? I used machines like this at a laundromat I went to when I lived in El Paso, and they never "sudsed out" no matter how much detergent I put in it.

  • @02chevyguy
    @02chevyguy 11 років тому +2

Nope...I've used Tide, Wisk, Cheer, Gain and a few other non-low sudsing detergents in these machines and all produced the same result.

Almost one half century old! One can only wonder if the machine will still work in 2063. By then global warming will have become so bad that the Cold cycle actually will be the Warm cycle.

My parents had a 1961 Maytag (model #, not sure) my sister took it when they moved and its still working for her. The matching dryer finally gave up in about 2004 (my guess is it was fixable, but it was a bit of an energy hog.

I never knew that timer advancement was every 30 seconds in these machines. Were there two increments of spray rinse at 60 seconds or a single increment at 30? Cool machine.

How do you get your whites so white when you put coloured stuff in too? And on hot! Your whites are whiter than mine and I only do only white washes! Yours was glowing
    Kind regards

  • @starchild80

The new washing machines are not built better, they are cheaply made and turned around and sold for a high price for example there are several videos on here where the newer machine's explode and use less water where the clothes don't really come clean compare to the older one's and who care's about being eco-energetic i like my clothes clean not to where they are torn too shreds by the newer machine's and the older one's will last longer!!!

The new ones are TRASH and you're lucky if you get 5 years out of them. How "eco-energetic' is that? Here's a 50 year old washer still going strong. DUHR!
