Isn't leaving a party without saying goodbye called a French exit? Kinda poetic that one of France's most iconic dance bands retired without a big farewell.
"without a big farewell"? Did you see the beautiful video on their website? Most bands just makes an announcement and no "big farewell". I think Daft Punk made a beautiful farewell :) Check out the website if you haven't seen it!
@@Maxxzyy not really, even for daft punk this “goodbye” was pretty lackluster. Nevertheless I’m glad they’re happy with their decision and that we’ve been blessed with them these many years
Unfortunately (or fortunately) since they funded all of their recordings themselves it's very unlikely that the labels are able to release any compilations of unreleased music.
Horizon can be considered their true final track, it's instrumental and is exclusive to japanese/deluxe release (the deluxe version of RAM also has a remix of Get Lucky)
WRONG. daft punk collaborated with Parcels on their track Overnight in 2017. the last song in their discography isn't Contact, it's Horizon (Bonus track released only in Japan).
This. (Although to be exact, I believe Overnight came out in late 2016, the record I have's been released by Kitsuné in 2017 but I think I remember discussing the collaboration with some friends 3 days before Christmas 2016, maybe I'm just hallucinating though) :)
5:11 100% true. I remember reading an article in 1997 when Homework came out saying the film impact of this album will not be known until likely a decade from now. Each album Daft Punk made rippled through electronic music and they set the trends.
When the critics hated them, I loved them, when the critics loved that pop/ pseudo 70's music I hated... But nonetheless, the impact they made is immeasurable, I even started produce electronic music because of them, all hail to the kings
Part of me thinks they went the masked route after people had such a bad taste in their mouth after the harsh treatment people had when they were in the band Darlin’ with the lead guitarist of Phoenix. They wanted a change of pace from Punk to house to escape their critic’s biases and wanted their music to speak for itself as they revolutionized edm, while they set the bar for creating more variations in French House than there predecessors. I think they have a really cool redemption story and while their Punk music wasnt “the best” i think its beautiful that their criticisms only fueled their drive to reinvent themselves. And their naïve childlike desire to humanize the intricacies and personality of technological instruments alongside their equally childlike machine-loving hero Leiji Matusmoto coming out with their identity defining “Discovery” album and work on Intersella 5555 was just icing on the cake for their success. Absolutely cool dudes with an absolutely cool story. They deserved every award for what they did for music, live performance, and multimedia art!
I still haven’t stopped grieving and it’s been 3 years. When I heard daft punk broke up it really depressed me and that sadness has never left me. I’m still so sad they broke up. I’m so sad that by the time I got to be an adult and afford concert tickets, they broke up. I’m more sad that I will never hear more music from them. I’m so heartbroken. They’re still my favorite band.
I always liked Daft Punk but never listened to RAM as a smaller child since I liked the groovy beats but RAM was too classical for my taste back then. In 2018 though I listened to it and instantly fell in love and (3:35) the last tracks speech is from an Apollo mission which I thought to be symbolizing the robots leaving our planet for the stars.
It's funny, to me Contact has a really strong narrative of the astronaut seeing a UFO, with the rest of the track following it through space, hitting the atmosphere and eventually reaching the ground.
Havent watched the full video yet, but I see the importance of critics and theories in any facet of life, but art has always been a weird one for me. I don't think it should matter as much if they left an impact on anyone, let alone a generation
They went from digital to analog at the very end it came a full cycle.. apart from that, they do a lot of soundtrack or probably should say Thomas was more towards gearing other adventures..
I think everything they did besides homework, discovery and alive 2007 set is petty damn overhyped. They even admitted they spent only 2 months working Human After All.. Still sucks that it is official we will never get a Swan album ins Discovery 2 album that they could go out on...
They should have given us one more album to go out on. But no. They stayed silent for 8 years while the fans expected that they were going to release new music soon
Your videos are already long. I get your point in first 3-4 minutes of the vid. Why would I want to watch full version ? Love your content, but it is what it is.

Daft Punk is the most iconic duo of all time. Literally their helmets alone has done that. Crazy.
Unfortunately (or fortunately) since they funded all of their recordings themselves it's very unlikely that the labels are able to release any compilations of unreleased music.

The people behind Daft Punk didn’t stop producing music, they are producing music for many artists under their real names as individuals.
As far as released music, they've both only produced a handful of tracks by themselves (or at least away from Daft Punk).
